If that's not Apocalypse, read the Codex. Or if you've not got a Codex, buy a Codex. There's limitations on things like heavy support.

Please read the codex three times and write a proper army list, then we'll talk again. Because from the looks of it, you don't know what a platoon is and how the command structure of the Imperial Guard actually works. So please, read the codex (lacking one, buy one) carefully through.

I'll try to make this sound easy for you. The Imperial Guard fields the platoon as a single Troops choice. A platoon is made up of one command squad (made up of one junior officer and four guardsmen) and between two and five guardsmen squads (each made up of one sergeant and nine men). Hard to digest, maybe a visual aid can help you? Check this sample army list from the GW site. Hope this helps, but most importantly, get a codex and read it thoroughly at least twice.

I remember after years of Eldar and Marines, when i first opened the Imp Gaurd codex, it was just a moment of "...". Either way I very much liek the unit layout, but it did take a bit for me to get used to the diea of 3 - 6 squads making up one troop choice amongst other things.

King Kento I remember after years of Eldar and Marines, when i first opened the Imp Gaurd codex, it was just a moment of "...". Either way I very much liek the unit layout, but it did take a bit for me to get used to the diea of 3 - 6 squads making up one troop choice amongst other things. This is what adds character and flavour to the Imperial Guard, but also provides the strength to compete against other armies. Cheap troops with cheap heavy and assault weapons plus access to cheap low-tier characters. Explaining the platoon system to new players can be annoying at times. Whenever you field three or so platoons there are cries of "OMFG you are fielding three HQ's and nine troops choices, you cheating c*nt!" In other cases people will call it cheesy, especially when they see the command platoon plus five support squads packed with various heavy weapons for the first time. Only downside to the platoon system is that they are inflexible and not suited for small point games. While marines can field two small combat squads and a commander, the Imperial Guard has to field at the very least forty men from various squads plus a Chimera to meet the standard 1 HQ 2 Troops requirement. Of course, I am keeping Doctrines out of the equation.

Valandil517 Are there still restriced troops that you have to use doctrine 'points' for in an Apocalypse army? No, but only for Apocalypse. My Cadian army fields Ogryn and enginseers in Apocalypse games, something I'd normally never field due to the Cadian doctrine set.
