You could say that about... well, anything really though. The problem isn't in what it is you're playing, the problem is in why what you're playing isn't different enough from everything else.

People play 'badguys' and end up being 'douches'. People play 'devils' and end up being 'bullies'. If your character isn't human, your character shouldn't think or act like a human. It's not just a matter of saying "my character is comfortable with this because he's not human" because it should also be "this makes my character uncomfortable because he's not human".

The strange is mundane, the mundane is strange, and if you forget that your character should be coming from a background and culture that are supposedly different than anything we, as players, have ever experienced then you also need to adjust the way that they think about things.

THIS.

OH SO VERY THIS.

I miss the days when outsiders were truly horrific entities. They acted in ways wholly inhuman because they were inhuman, and not in a HURRR I KEEL EVERYTHING manner. When they become humanized, especially en-masse, it becomes disappointing to me. =[

I hope to rectify that problem with some upcoming posts of mine. Will definitely be fun to explore just how terrifying something can really be.

Or bribes, if I'm feeling generous. If that fails, I just go fisticuffs, and that generally works out pretty well for me.

Roen Jaeger
For ******** sake, apologizing?! Geeze, Vintrict, you need to stop playing women. You're starting to act like one.

Not exactly saying sorry. Just asking that'll you'll return to active duty.

No? Did you? I haven't played him in a looooong time unless its a non-canonical bout with Spiegel or a non-canon cameo. He was killed by Roen's maid one night ( I think he was drunk at the time ) and eaten. There's nothing left of him, as I recall.

Regarding devils, continued,

Outsiders of the devil and angel type have always been expressions of human temperament. Cog is right that both angels and demons should be terrifying entities, but then demons and devils differ from a D&D standpoint ( and my own, by extension ). The demons are more the hulking, brutish types ( who can cause all sorts of wanton chaos and horror ) but are predictable in their varying composition. The devils equally so, for their designs and goals are always wholly self-centered.

I guess it's like Luke Skywalker says, the bad guys are always too predictable.

Granted, 40k takes this in a different direction. Cog wants to do the sort of thing I like to do for vampires ( at times ) which is reinvent the mainstream depiction by not holding back. Letting yourself go as a writer ( and hoping not to get banned ) is what brings you into all sorts of crazy that Jak reads and masturbates to.

Which brings us right back to where all these pansy-versions of vampires and devils and angels came from, which is mainstream media. These shows want to feature these creatures that interest us, but anime featured on TV can't really depict all the depraved acts of hell. Even...

...

This is all like, term paper length topic. I'm going to just end the rant. D:

Ha-ha. Awesome.

I've never played anything that I intended to be a truly inhuman ******** of a character... but whenever I do play nonhuman characters I make an attempt to keep them from being human. Demonic entities should not just be a 'bad boy' wearing a leather jacket and sucking himself off while leveling a city. That's a megalomaniac with a bomb, not an outsider.

Even if you don't want to try and play their personality as something of a complete departure from the human norm, you'd still need to consider what their non-human way of life brings to the table. Dwarves should feel as uncomfortable in the rain as elves should be in downtown Durem as vampires should be in a room full of warm-bloods as a devil should be telling the truth... etc.

Vivillian's trying to stop Roen from playing human and actually being the devil he is. If only he'll stop being a pansy and finally live up to his destiny of destroying the world.

The latest showing of her was sick. Like, vomiting sick in the way she was describing cleaning those bodies.

Why would anyone want to destroy the world? Then there'd be nothing left to ruin.

Good times, KB. Good times. Roen still has Ken's humerus somewhere in the Alibi---

God dammit, Vintrict. I want my building back the way it was. Oh, and speaking of tails, I have this gem laying around. Any way I can put it on Roen's profile without shoving me onto the waiting list?

Does a devil need a reason? To destroy it and rule over mankind.
