Character always appearing when something seems to go wrong, doing a small part to help but you can't help but think he's somehow involved.

Intelligent little demon that wanderers around the land! You give out missions and sell stuff to the Hero(es), but the items themselves aren't always what they truly are...(in other words, the items have a 50/50 chance of being what you say they are...)

The extremely helpful information-giving NPC that you meet outside of a tavern or inn somewhere in a busy town who turns out to be either associated with the villain or the heroic quest-giver.

The forest spirit who welcomes the travelers, feeds them, and gives them a warm bed to sleep in before sending them on their way. She leaves them all a special gift and none of them are left with the memories of the previous night.
