Maia had missed the lake, more than anywhere else they'd gone together. Once out of the car, she took hold of Toby's hand. "Lets go swim," she invited. She looked towards Dari. "C'mon, we can race!"

"Come on!" Toby said, tugging Maia's arm as he made a break for the lake. He knew they would win. Dari had a whole different biology to worry about, but was in a pretty good mood considering he could just pop in his projector and not paint up. He could go swimming too. Even though the light that shone through him morphed shaped somewhat in the water, someone would blame their eyes before they blamed an alien using light trickery.
Toby let her go as they reached the shore, ran high-legged in, and dove gracefully into the water. Dari reached the couple not too long after and just waded in.

Maia dove in after Toby, trying to catch up. She looked back at Dari and waved. The cool temperature of the water wouldn't bother the alien one bit. "C'mon Dari! You'll never catch up to Toby that way!"
Was she encouraging competition between her favorite boys? Always.

But he had to alter his own pressure and stuff! Dari just laughed and sank down into the water, swimming a bit clumsily. Toby popped out of the water and smiled, then dove at Dari as he emerged. The two went under again.

Water tackling? Instead of going towards the buoy, Maia stayed and watched. She grinned and shook her head. Boys. She'd missed this, Toby's competitiveness.
"You guys! I'm going to win!" She announced, but she made no move towards their finish line.

The pair tangled under water for a little while and then Dari seemed to come out victorious, remaining under water and swimming toward the buoys. Toby had to come up for air before he could continue, still grinning.

Maia went after Toby, and instead of trying to pass him, seemed to be trying to grab hold of his shoulders. "Hey," she grinned at him. "Its nice to be here again, isn't it?"

Toby felt hands on is shoulders and stopped, turning to Maia. Was she okay? He grinned at her question.
"It is." He put his hands over hers and began to walk toward the buoys. Dari was already there, a luminescent dark spot lingering under the water.

Maia released his shoulders. "Hold your breath," she instructed, before diving underwater and trying to knock his legs out from under him.

Toby did as instructed and, rather than try to fight against the kick, he simply let his legs crumple and fell under water with Maia, smiling to her. It was clear he trusted her, and to break that trust might not mean well for their relationship.

Maia moved close and kissed him. Her hair floated around them, but the fish, if any had been near, had fled. Drowning ones boyfriend was frowned on by society, but she wasn't a Kelpie. She released her hold on him and rose to the surface.

Toby fell into the kiss, eyes closing, and help Maia there a moment to enjoy the gesture. A kiss under water. Had he ever had one before? He broke the surface not long after her and began to swim toward Dari again.
"It looks like you won, Jellyman."

"Good work Dari!" Maia beamed at the alien. Distracting Toby was easier than it'd ever been. She swam towards the buoys, grinning. "Lets skip racing back to shore and enjoy the water," she said, leaning back and trying to float. "Its beautiful here."

Both of the men were well aware of what had happened, but it didn't seem to matter so much. Toby stayed by the both of them, watching Maia try to float.
"Breathe in deep." That as how he had been taught anyway.
Dari was treading water and having a bit of trouble staying afloat, but this was not the place to morph. He took a few steps back so he could stand properly and brought a hand up from the water, watching the ribbons and droplets run off.

Maia took a deep breath. She grinned and instead turned over in order to splash Toby. "Lori told me to invite you to help cook things for your birthday," she said. Now was as good a time to tell him as ever. "He said he'll invite your friends. I thought we could have dinner at home?"
