☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." "I still think you should've worn that dark blue tie I bought you," fussed Alan as he reached out to attempt to fix Reed's hair. It looked good no matter what he did, but still, nothing felt as perfect as it should. He turned his attention to his own person, adjusting his light blue shirt and trying not to look like a total lovesick loser whenever his gaze turned to Reed. At any rate, Dana was sure to love him, right? Nothing to be nervous about! Nothing! "By the way, you don't happen to speak any German, do you?" he asked suddenly, expression hopeful. Anything to impress his little sister. He really wanted her approval of Reed. "The numbers never lie."

Reed de Févin "You were my everything.""I'll be fine, Al. Stop messing up my hair." Reed said while swatting Alan's hand away and ruffling his hair back to normal. He was dressed formal casual, with a red vest and the sleeves of his white button-up folded up to his elbows all complimented by black jeans and a matching black tie. This was fine. It wasn't like he was going to a job interview or meeting Alan's parents. His sister should be alright, should be casual. Right?
When asked about his knowledge of the German language, the musician looked at the scientist and gave him a sheepish smile. "I know how to say hello?" he said in a questioning tone."Your music will live on."

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." Alan sighed, then leaned his head back and closed his eyes. "This is going to be a disaster," he breathed, pursing his lips. "It's bad enough that you're the first guy I've ever asked Dana to meet, but she's very judgemental about everything when it comes to me. I practically raised her, so it's like a parent introducing a new lover to their child." Crossing his arms, he opened his eyes and glanced to the door, as if waiting for Dana to walk in at any moment, although he knew that she'd probably be late.
"I just really like this thing we've got, and I really, really want her to like you," he said quietly. "The numbers never lie."

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." Alan looked up at Reed, eyes softening. "You're sweet," he said quietly, moving in for a short kiss. Just before their lips could touch, though, a voice could be heard not too far away.
"Yuck. Take it somewhere else, won't you?" Alan looked up to see his little sister, jacket tied around her waist, blonde hair up in a ponytail, and irritated frown on her pretty face. She walked over, opening her arms for a hug that Alan eagerly welcomed. They held each other tightly, and he kissed the top of her head before pulling away.
"Don't knock it til you try it, Dana," he said, gesturing to Reed. "It's nice being in love."
"This coming from the man who told me a year ago that love was a figment of mankind's imagination."
"Well, I was wrong. Now then, this is Reed de Févin. Reed, this is my sister, Dana Klein."
Dana held out her hand in expectation, leaning in to look at the man. "How old are you?" she asked bluntly. He looked like he was at least thirty-seven! "The numbers never lie."

Reed de Févin"You were my everything."Reed shrugged at Alan's comment. "Someone between the two of us needs to be." he teased and leaned in for a kiss when they were interrupted by what sounded like a peeping student. He tilted his head away with a dragged out sigh until he noticed the scientist hug the girl rather than scold her like he would with any other student. Reed blinked for a minute until he realized - That was her. That's Alan's sister. She definitely looked young, young enough to pass for a high school student. He couldn't see any resemblance between the two except for the scowl on her face.
The band director looked at the hand held out to him. Giving a confused smile, he held hers with his bad hand, hoping she wouldn't squeeze too tight, and shook it. "Well first of all, hello. I'm the band director at the school here, and I'm thirty-two.""Your music will live on."

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." She gripped his hand, looking down at his weak handshake, then back to him. "You shot him?" she asked her brother, still staring at the old man Alan was dating.
"Yeah, I did." Alan didn't see a reason to lie to his little sister, setting a hand on her shoulder and pushing gently. "Why?"
Dana looked Reed up and down, then released his hand and turned to Alan. "Because you missed." She took Alan's hand, seating herself beside him and keeping her attention focused on him. She smiled as they two caught up in the next few minutes, him babbling about how happy he was and her ignoring Reed's very existence. However, when she smiled, the resemblance between the half-siblings grew, revealing a cute side of the girl that wasn't likely to be shown to Reed, but that clearly linked her to her brother.
"Anyway, so how long are you staying in town?" asked Alan. "And where are you staying? I mean, I've been sleeping over at Reed's house lately, but I don't mind staying at my place with you."
She gaped at him. "Wait, are you two sleeping together? What did you do to my brother?" Her accusing gaze turned to Reed. He'd corrupted her precious Big Bro! "The numbers never lie."

Reed de Févin"You were my everything."Reed winced as his hand was squeezed. He pulled his hand back when it was released and shook away the pain as he listened to the two. First of all, what kind of relationship did they have that they could casually talk about shooting people? Second, Dana really was like a judgmental child the way she commented on his shooting.
Reed sat down in his seat and crossed both his arms and his legs as he listened to the two. Every time he laughed or would try to say something he'd find himself being completely ignored by Dana. Halfway through their conversation he decided to stay out and observe. She was spoiled, that was all he could come up with. A spoiled brat. Reed maintained a relatively calm expression, though his grip on his sleeve was tight. He was losing his friendly patience and felt his bounty hunter side come out. Heh, maybe that's what she needed. A hunter to tell her to get over this snobby attitude.
When she finally talked to him, Reed had to take a second to consider what to say. He was tempted to tell her upfront that he was sleeping with her brother just to see what horrified expression she'd make, but he decided against it. "I've been teaching him how to play the flute every night." He lifted his glass of water and brought it to his lips. Before he drank the icy water he smirked to himself and said, "The skin flute, that is.""Your music will live on."

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." "Reed!" gasped a blushing Alan, slapping the musician's arm with his hand harshly. "I told you to behave!" He covered his face with his hand, unable to look at his sister and deny that he and Reed were sexually involved. He couldn't lie to Dana, and now she knew the truth of his relationship. She knew he was a harlot! Oh, she was just bound to lose respect for him. Stupid Reed, he ruined everything!
But Dana didn't really react, her eyes cold as they remained on Reed. "Doesn't surprise me," she finally said after some time. "Not in the slightest. I know what's going on here. You're just another creep, trying to take advantage of my innocent brother. You're probably bunches older than thirty-two, too! Explains the white hair, at least." She stood, her hand gripping Alan's shoulder. "I don't want you seeing my brother anymore, you sick pervert. I forbid it."
Alan tried to stand, only to be forced back down by her hand. "Now Dana, he was just joking around," he tried to say in an attempt to placate the situation.
Dana wouldn't have it. "He's disgusting, Alan. What would Aldrich say if he knew you'd taken to dating one of your stalkers? I won't have it!" "The numbers never lie."

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." "I know enough," she spat, reaching for her brother's wrist. "You're just like every other creep that's ever liked my brother, except you've managed to ensnare him. He's naive, he's too trusting, and you're just manipulating him to get him to sleep with you. You're disgusting, and if Aldrich won't defend his son, then I'll have to!" She yanked on Alan's wrist, tugging him towards the door.
But Alan stood his ground, yanking his wrist away. "Dana, we aren't kids anymore!" he firmly protested. "I don't need you to scare away my harassers, and besides, Reed's different. He's sweet and nice, and yeah he's a little perverted, but he's a good guy." He moved closer to his sister, setting his hands on her shoulders. "I know you're just acting this uptight because you're worried, but I'm not stupid." He looked over his shoulder at Reed. "Even if he's a total dumba-s, I love him. It might not be rational, like I always taught you to be, but I really do love him. Wherever this goes, I'm happy to have been with him for what time I will be."
Looking back to Dana, Alan set his right hand on her cheek, leaning in to kiss her forehead. "You don't have to like him. Just pretend to be civil for now, at least until we figure out what we want from each other like proper adults. Can you do that?"
The girl looked at her brother, then rolled her eyes, crossed her arms, and nodded. "I guess I can pretend like he's not a total moron for a bit, if he really makes you happy," she said, that all enough for Alan. He released her and moved to sit down beside the musician, leaving her to sit across from them. She crossed her legs, glaring at Reed. "But I still think you're the worst person my brother could ever choose to be with." "The numbers never lie."

Roy Lane "You don't even know me." Reed sneered at her. He then turned to Alan and put an arm around his shoulders. "Thanks for sticking up for me." he said quietly to the scientist, not caring if Dana heard or not. Hmm, maybe he could pull a Golden Rule and completely ignore Dana while talking to Alan this time? He'd like to see the snobby brat react to that! As he opened his mouth to put the plan into action, he spotted someone coming.
"Hi." came a voice. Reed looked up to see a man that was younger, but not enough to be a high schooler that was fawning on either Alan or Dana. Well, not a high schooler fawning. He definitely had his eyes on Dana. "My name's Roy. Dana invited me. I, uh, hope I'm not interrupting?" he asked more the girl than the men. Reed de Févin

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." Alan looked upwards at the man, smiling discreetly at him and setting a hand on his leg. "Anytime," he whispered back. "Besides, it wouldn't do well for me if my sister and my boyfriend hated each other and constantly caused a-" He was interrupted by another male voice, eyes following it to find a handsome young man. Before he could say anything, he followed the man's gaze to his sister, then her suddenly-adoring gaze back to him. "Excuse me?" he said.
"You came!" Dana stood up, moving closer to Roy and wrapping her arms around his neck for a hug. "My brother's the brunette, old guy's his boyfriend," she said after pulling away, then took his hand and tugged him closer. "Roy, this is my big brother Alan. Alan, this is Roy. My boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" Alan stood up, considerably shorter than Roy, but not seeming to notice the height difference. "Since when? You've never shown much interest in dating before."
She shrugged. "What can I say? He was too cute to pass up. That, and he's a gracious loser." Giggling a little to herself, she gestured for Alan to stick out his hand. He did so, holding out his hand in a traditional fashion to shake hands, even though he didn't usually like to.
"So you're dating Dana, huh?" he asked, chuckling a little. "She's kind of a handful, which I'm sure you know by now. How'd you two meet?" "The numbers never lie."

Roy Lane Roy smiled when Dana hugged him, wrapping his arms around her waist to return it when Alan got up. He glanced at him, giving him a confused look in return for the one he was given, then looked at the hand that was held out to him. He shook the hand firmly, giving Alan a light smile, then pulled up a chair next to Dana and sat down. "It started recently, honestly." he started to clear up the worst of the confusion. "We met in the candy store nearby, actually. She had just gotten here and wanted to get you a gift... so that meant stealing the candy I bought." he said with a snide smile tossed at her.
Reed looked at the development in interest. Now this was something. First Dana was mad at Alan for dating, and now Alan got to see that Dana was dating. At least he wasn't an overbearingly protective brother, or anything. Dana's got that position filled.
Now that he listened to the story, however, maybe these two were actually in junior high. What adult goes to a candy store? Reed de Févin

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." She lightly smacked his arm, laughing and shaking her head. "Okay, stop that. You hadn't bought it yet, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime gummi bear. I just knew you'd like it, Alan. You would've loved it, if this one hadn't gotten me thrown in jail."
"What?" Alan, who sat down when Roy did, suddenly sat upright, rigid and tense. "Jail? What the hell, Dana?!"
She waved her hand carelessly. "It was just one night. Come on, you never did anything dumb at my age."
"No. I never wanted my father to suffer a heart attack! Does Mother know?"
"Why would she? I wouldn't want her to know anything about my personal life."
"Because she's supposed to be here watching you. Even now, I have to babysit you."
"Oi, I told you it wasn't a big deal. Quit freaking out."
"What, so you can hate my boyfriend, but I can't be upset you were thrown in jail? And worse, with some random guy you just met!" He turned to Roy. "No offense, man, I'm sure you're a nice guy." Turning back to Dana, he leaned over and smacked her upside the head. "Bekloppt. I hope you realize that Mother's going to have my hide for letting this happen, even if I wasn't directly involved."
"Ow! She doesn't have to know! Come on, Bruder, live a little." She pleaded, leaning forward. "Besides, Mama wouldn't let me see Roy if she knew we went to jail together."
"Hell of a first date, you brat." hissed Alan, leaning back and reluctantly nodding. He wouldn't tell, but she was definitely going to pay for it. "So why, exactly, were you two put into a jail cell?" "The numbers never lie."
