((Boss lady lives!))

Erec grimaced as he pulled a small bottle of pills from the inside of his vest. He quickly twisted it open and popped two of the pills, closed it and pocketed it again.

"I hate the taste of these damn muscle relaxants," he muttered to himself as he waited for the painful spasms to subside. He looked over to the result of their impromptu plan to defeat the Behemoth King. He noticed that James and another girl, which Erec figured to be Rainer, standing in front of the monster. He saw as she lifted her hand, uttered some words and shot some type of black energy at the creature.

"What kind of spell was that?" Erec asked himself.

'Another Sorceress...' Cerberus replied. 'Two in one day. Astronomical odds of that happening...' Erec slowly walked over to Rainer, thankful that the spasms had slowed considerably. Curaga. A healing spell washed over him and healed the rest of his wounds. Just then, he noticed the Behemoth King turn into a whole different creature entirely.

"An Iron Giant!" he exclaimed. As he approached the Sorceress, he said to her, "Thanks for making the thing smaller, but now we have a whole different fight here." He noticed the giant turning towards her and smiled a little. He cracked his knuckles in anticipation of the upcoming battle. "I don't mind the challenge though. Not...at...all."

Amara had been standing stone still after casting the triple Tornado, mostly because she had been severely drained of energy after the costly succession of spells and was struggling to regain her composure. The second, if not just as prominent reason, however, was because she was aching to simply observe James and Rainer in battle. Her eyes seemed to methodically analyze every step they took, every spell released from their fingertips, the golden orbs darting back and forth as the two moved as if to compliment the other in some frantic, magical ballet.

If one dies...well, I'll be the lucky one in the end, won't I?

Considering if you and the others survive this beast. And then if James does live, he shall interrogate you like a prisoner.

I'm sure I can handle myself...you think me so helpless.

Her thoughts were cut off as she stood, almost paralyzed, watching the Behemoth's body grow ebony as Rainer murmured her spell. Amara's nerves shrieked involuntarily, grating against her already taut bones and innards for action as the wretched sorceress watched the Behemoth's body shift and mutate into that of--another beast?

It looks like she knows nothing of her power's potential...

Amara's body was tensed for combat, leaning forward on the balls of her feet, her glaive in her hand once again. Yet she slumped slightly; the spells had tired her, and as she faced the Iron Giant, poised and alert, she felt herself mentally cursing Rainer for warping the Behemoth rather than destroying it.

But we have to be close...we just have to!

Cheered slightly by the thought, she brought her glaive forwards, stabbing the air before her, and sought to damage the Giant as best as she could before having to resort to Diablos--who, even now, was sneering in her mind, as arrogant and scornful as a proud veteran of war.

Thundaga!

The bolt of thunder surged forwards in saffron sparks towards the Giant in which she could only hope would be a devastating blow.

||Iron Giants are certainly easier to fight though. Now we don't have to worry about a Meteor Spell leveling half of Esthar when we kill the Behemoth King... ||

Thankfully, thankfully, James had managed to reach the Behemoth King before the transformation caused by Rainer's spell was complete. Had he not pulled his sword from the Behemoth King's back, he might not have ever been able to retrieve it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to remove any form of metal from the body of an Iron Giant?

From behind the Iron Giant James called out another tactical order, "Everyone! Remember your studies! Iron Giants' defense are too high! Group Meltdown!"

James used three, instead of the normal one, though. Iron Giants were resistant to the zero Vitality effect of Meltdown, but the odds of the thing avoiding it after having seven people with the potential of three spells each casting Meltdown were very little. The fight would be over in minutes once that point was passed.

Rainer stared at the Iron Giant in dismay. What the hell? Well, now she knew not to say that spell again. Not now, anyways. As the unknown SeeD member approached, Rainer stared at the Iron Giant.

Grinning sheepishly, Rainer said, "Um... you're welcome?" She wasn't quite sure how to react. Saved by the SeeD walking away, Rainer looked to James as he ordered Meltdown. She went over her roster of spells. No Meltdown. But... Rainer cast a Triple on herself, then sent three Thundaras hurtling toward the Iron Giant in addition to Amara's Thundaga. The four Thunder spells smashed into the Iron Giant with tremendous force, punching several holes in it, though not killing it.

Rainer stood panting after the spells punched through the Iron Giant. Her Sorceress power was screaming for release, but Rainer ignored it. She needed to understand it better than now in order to use it effectively.

"Meltdown? I don't have any Meltdown spells!" Erec exclaimed. The White SeeD normally went on missions without forbidden spells, forcing them to instead search high and low for it or depend on their own skills. Erec now was, in a sense, slightly screwed. "I think I may have something else to bring to this table."

'You mean Soul Shatterer?' Cerberus inquired. The three-headed Guardian let out a deep chuckle at the thought of that technique. 'Always entertaining to watch.'

"Well, get an eyeful, Cerberus. Here it comes." Erec balled his right hand into a fist, which then turned a dark purple. He rushed the Iron Giant while it was still under the effects of the four Thunder spells. From behind the monster, a transparent image of it suddenly appeared, which symbolized its soul. As he got closer, Erec reared back his fist and prepared the attack.

"Soul Shatterer!" Erec cried out as he sunk his fist in the Iron Giant's midsection. It appeared to be unharmed by the attack, but the afterimage had a gaping hole in the same area that Erec punched the original.

((Being a hand-to-hand fighter, Erec's not completely big on spellcasting. He does it...but not as often as...oh, let's say the summoners. XD))

Isaac more or less stared in awe at the effects some of these people were having on the Iron Giant. But after he shook his head and quickly slurped up the little drool that had just started coming out, he put the knives he had in his hand away. "These won't do a thing... And I don't have the energy to use a spell yet. Looks like everything's starting to fall apart at the slightest change..." Isaac's sighed as he stumbled forward, back towards the battle. His left arm hanging uselessly at this side.

You forget how little people use the Forbidden Spells that I give you a constant stockpile of.

Bite it. Three was more than enough.

"Let loose on this thing!" James called out, "It's so close! The time to end it is upon us!"

The Iron Giant turned on James. It was annoyed with the Thunder-type spells, yes, but James was the bigger threat and the Giant could sense that. It took its massive club and swung it high, and then brought it down hard toward James. Right into his sword. The beast was incredibly strong, but with its defense now zero it couldn't hold up against James's sword. When the club made contact with the Titan Blade, the Blade sliced right through, effectively cutting the Giant's club in half.

"That works...I guess..." James muttered to himself, "Not exactly what I was expecting."

The creature made no noise. It couldn't. But it was obviously angry. It tried again to attack James, only this time the Estharian SeeD sidestepped the blow and used the club like a stepping stone. He climbed up the rest of the club and quickly made it to the beast's arm, and then to the thing's shoulder, and finally up by its head. He had the perfect spot for attacking now, and that was exactly what James did.

Firaga Fusion.

James cast Firaga not on the Iron Giant, but on his sword. The Titan Blade looked as if it welcomed the spell, glowing a bright red and increasing in temperature as a sign that the spell worked. It heated up the Titan Blade so that James could easily slice through the metal that was the Iron Giant's body, and that's exactly what he did.

James leaped from the shoulders of the Iron Giant and brought his sword down at the joint where the creature's club arm connected to the body. With a great clang, the Iron Giant had only one arm left. And it wasn't even the arm it used to carry its weapon.

Spell cancel.

Once he was done, James dodged to the side and canceled the spell that was on his weapon. It certainly couldn't stay that way for long. It was too damaging.

Amara watched the Iron Giant grow steadily weaker, a small smirk playing on her lips as it lost its attacking limb. James had told them all to use Meltdown, yet she didn't want to use up such precious stock remaining in her body, especially since it was so difficult to receive in combat.

Nonsense. When have you ever drawn magic from a monster in your life?

Depends on your definition of monster...

Instead, the Galbadian brought her glaive towards her body, the orbs glowing faintly as the thundaga spell she had been conjuring rushed from its sharp tip in a burst of crackling thunder to surge towards the Iron Giant. Considering the damage dealt from her attack combined with Rainer's, it seemed to be formidable enough to get rid of the Giant soon enough. The SeeD paid no attention to anyone around her; none of the newer faces, nor the two sorcerers in her eyesight; not even Isaac, who she could feel nearby rather than immediately see. All she wanted was to kill the Giant, and the adrenaline constantly rushing through her body just as anxious as she.

Diablos growled low in her mind, the sharpness of his claws almost physically digging into the back of her spine. She shuddered involuntarily,

Call upon me. Now.

When Diablos was so bloodthirsty, it was difficult to deny him his services--Amara knew this, and she nodded her head with her eyes narrowed as she easily called forth the Guardian.

Dark Messenger!

It was as if her skin had been forcefully lurched away from her very bones; before Amara grew a blackened void, reflected from the shadow of a hanging ebony orb in mid-air. Her golden eyes flickered up towards the descending black ball as the leathery wings protruded from its surface, the bestial face twisted in a gruesome expression Amara could only interpret as hunger as it pulled itself, snarling and twisting, from its rotund prison. Diablos hung in the darkened sky for an instant, his wings flapping and thrumming with anticipation, golden eyes piercing Amara's own as he suddenly thrust his veiny arm into the ball above him, the blackness growing in size as he slammed it down towards the Earth where the Iron Giant stood. The impact was like a miniature explosion; the SeeD pulled herself away a few steps as the ball struck the Iron Giant like a bomb of powerful gravity, her Guardian dispersing from the air as easily as if he were a flickering illusion.

Fancy. Hopefully it will actually injure the thing.

And yet you wouldn't have dared to say that had I still been on the battlefield, lest I strike you.

Erec jumped back as the sky around Amara grew dark. The way the hairs stood on the back of his neck gave him the feeling that this was another summoning.

'Oh? What makes you think that? Cerberus asked him.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Erec replied.

'Duck? What are you talking about?

...Never mind, Cerberus. Erec leaped away from the Iron Giant as the summoned creature emerged. "Well...Diablos. A dangerous creature indeed..." He watched in awe as its dark attack crashed into the Iron Giant and the Guardian disappeared as quickly as it came. He looked over to Amara and gave her a thumbs-up.

"Nice shot!" he exclaimed.

The Iron Giant was greatly injured by Diablos, but still stood through the attack. That was the frustrating thing about Gravity Magic...it only ever reduced a percentage of the target's health. It never had the kick needed to finish them off. That was up to everyone else.

Nicely done, Amara. James found himself saying from a safe distance. When she had began the summoning, he leaped to the side to avoid any damage.

Complimenting a girl like her? Do you remember what she was made for?

Do you remember what she is? A SeeD and a human being, just like me.

"Who would like the honor of the finishing blow?" James called out to everyone as if he were speaking about the weather, "This fight is pretty well over."

Rainer frowned. She didn't trust herself to use her Sorceress power just yet, or maybe even never, and she didn't trust herself to do enough damage with her gunblade to finish off the Giant. In her mind, Siren sang her war song, asking for release. Taking a step back, Rainer decided to let Siren have her wish. She didn't get to use Siren much, and Siren would appreciate the thought.

Rainer stretched out her hands in front of her and closed her eyes.

Silent Voice.

Rainer was pulled out of harms way by Siren, sending her floating into the air, detached and silent. It was as if she watched out of the eyes of another. Her body became translucent, and her conscious mind was sapped away to safety.

Sparkling, purple waves engulfed the Iron Giant. On a rock (that had not been there mere moments before) sat a beautiful woman. She wore a skimpy outfit, consisting of scraps of golden cloth covering parts inappropriate to others. Large golden wings tipped with purple grew out from above her ears. In her graceful hands sat a wondrous golden harp. She quickly began to strum the harp, sending out waves of silent damage toward the Iron Giant who was helpless before her radiance and onslaught. Finally, the waves receded and Siren stilled her hands. The rock she sat on seemed to move farther and farther away, though it remained in the same spot. A soft glow overcame all the bystanders and all trace of Siren and her waves vanished.

Rainer slammed back into reality and she fell onto her hands and knees, panting. She looked up. The Iron Giant weaved, losing its balance. Finally, after an eternity of tense hope, the Iron Giant fell forward. Several streets were smashed, but no one seemed to be hurt. Its monolithic form wavered and vanished, leaving behind only debris of fallen buildings and broken streets as proof of any attack at all.

Rainer stood, wobbling slightly. Well, that was that. Rainer looked around, checking everyone's status. Suddenly, she doubled over coughing violently. She struggled to breathe as the coughs wracked her body. Her gloved hands, covering her mouth, came away. Rainer stared at the blood on it. She spat on the ground, grimacing at the taste of blood. What the hell? Something oozed down her lip. Frowning, Rainer lifted an unstained glove-covered hand and wiped at her nose. It was also covered in blood. The hell? She felt fine.

Erec whistled at the display of power that Rainer showed with the control of her Guardian. He looked around at the others and noticed that Isaac was advancing towards him, his left arm hanging limp. Erec started to advance towards him to see if he could fix when he heard violent coughing. He turned his head to see Rainer spitting blood from her mouth and a trickle running down her nose.

"Geez," he muttered as he walked over to her, pulling a cloth out from his pocket as he went. He stopped when he got right in front of Rainer and pressed the cloth against her nose lightly to stop the flow. "You did good, kid," he said as he tried to tilt her head back. "Hold your head back so you don't bleed everywhere." With a small smile, he added, "And try not to bleed on me. It's too hard to get blood out of white."

Rainer stared in confusion at her bloody hand while the foreign SeeD mopped her up. She obligingly tilted her head back and let him press the cloth to her nose. As she stared up, she suddenly experienced a bout of dizziness. Her shoulders wracked with her coughs, but they were losing their intensity. She tasted no more blood.

Rainer smiled grimly at the SeeD's remark.

"Sorry," she said, her voice raspy from the coughs. "I'll try." She held the cloth to her nose so the SeeD could help Isaac. She waved for him to go help. "Thanks for the help, but I think Isaac needs more help than I do at the moment." A small smile graced her face. "I don't know who you are, but I'm assuming you're a SeeD and you're going to join us." Nodding, she added, "I'm Rainer de Weistrasse, SeeD rank twenty-one."

Siren sang her contentment at being let out. She helped Rainer to cast a Cure on herself, stopping the bleeding. Because Rainer didn't even know the cause of the bleeding and her coughing up blood, she wasn't sure if Cure was going to be enough. However, the dizziness she felt was starting to ebb away.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:37 pm

As Rainer's dizziness started to disappear, Isaac's was only beginning. "Ooo," he moaned for a moment, "I better sit down..." Isaac was muttering to himself now, slightly delusional. "Everything's, kinda spinning..." Isaac sat cross legged and kept his left arm from touching anything. He lacked the energy to do much else than sit there. He was hardly aware of his surroundings at this point.

Erec nodded his head with Rainer introduced herself. He had already knew her name and rank, but if she felt more comfortable, then he'd let her.

"Erec Enilde, rank twenty-seven White SeeD," he responded to her with a small smile. "Not the most...normal way of meeting people, but it works. I'll go check on Isaac now." With another positive nod, he walked away from Rainer and headed towards Isaac. On the way, Erec noticed an Estharian clothing store with a gaping hole in the window. He ran over and grabbed a nearby shirt hanging on display.

"I don't think they'll mind if I take this," he muttered as he ripped it to make a tourniquet for Isaac's arm. Approaching the young SeeD as he sat on the ground, he said to him, "Well, Isaac, we finally meet. If you want, I'm gonna set that arm so I can Cure it and wrap it." He grimaced before adding, "It's gonna hurt. You ready?"
