"Actually I'm not sure, except," she looked at the two girls, "I think I'll need to make temporary dresses for the two, they have no other clothes and I hadn't expected them to sneak into my bag," she admitted.

Since there was the hope of walking with Serenity, but that would be later, on a different day.

"Didn't really plan much else," Donovan added, "This is just our chance to get away from the other kids... the ones connected to the school and not adopted by Kara. The students are a bit much these days."

He had to grumble at that inside because of all the paper work the stupid students tended to generate.

"Oh, just a nice little holiday then," Ulani beamed. "It's always good just to get away for a while ... for a little alone time." She winked at Ulrich, then giggled and looked back at Kara. "I don't know if you like that sort of thing, but I was planning on working in the garden later on - would you care to join me? This afternoon perhaps?"

Ulrich's eyes narrowed. "Getting away is only good depending on where you go," he muttered. "You couldn't pay me to go to the Southland anymore. Not since Regan died."

Donovan humph at that comment of Ulrich, "Be it as it may, like I said as long as it's peaceful here," he tapped the table top, "I don't care. Compared to our last few trips this will be a walk in the park, or it better be. I'm starting to think we attrach trouble at this rate."

Kara smiled widly at the idea, "I would love to work in the garden in the afternoon, that would be interesting to see what else is there."

Since she didn't really get the chance last time.

Ulrich was motionless for a moment, his face expressionless. Then he said, "Depending on how this evening goes, it may not be peaceful for long ..." Then he looked up at Donovan and added, "I don't know about what other trips you've taken, or what other kinds of trouble you attract ... but by being connected to Elnara and Serenity, you're connected here to a family that thrives on trouble - they attract it like a magnet. So ... while you're in this world ... expect it." He shrugged apologetically.

Ulani was glad Kara wanted to help out in the garden - it wasn't that there was a lot of work to do, or that she needed the help ... but rather, no one else in the valley liked working in the garden, and she would be more than glad for the company.

"Do you have a garden of your own?" she asked the angel curiously.

"But at least I know the kind of races I can expect out of it, there are only three, and only two for certain that would try to go after them," Donovan pointed out, "I don't have to worry whether the thing going after them is the undead or the like," he raised a brow, "And I'm not being optimistic about it if you're wondering, I'm just saying that's the way it is," he shrugged, "In this world or the next something happens, besides I wouldn't be a good Lau if I didn't expect trouble."

Kara paused a moment out of her conversation with Ulani to butt into Donovan's, "Are you still sore about the vampire incident?"

Well she shouldn't have been surprised, they never did get the vampire and the townspeople probably thought they were dead or something. She turned back to Ulani and looked a bit thoughtful.

"I manage the greenhouse back at the school, but I have yet to start my own garden, I mean..." Kara amended, "I haven't lived where I am now for that long, it's only been a bit over a year so this will be my first year having a garden to myself. Previously I lived in the city, and well... there's no room for a garden there."

"Don't count the dwarfs out," Ulrich warned Donovan. "I know most of the survivors were moved up north, and a few were taken into service by Atalya ... but there are still some out there that hold a strong grudge against the elves, and the Aldrich family in particular."

"You make it sound like we're the worst family in the land," Ulani laughed, poking her husband's shoulder. "Come, we're not that bad." She turned back to Kara, smiling. "I was never able to live in the city ... I tried it once, for about two years ... well, I really didn't have much of a choice in the matter." She laughed again. "Being stuck in a bed, not being allowed out for anything ... sucks. By the time I could walk, I was itching to get back here."

She ran one hand along the edge of the table fondly.

"You know..." Donovan paused for a moment pretending to be thoughtful, "I'm the only one allowed to be a pessimist here," he told Ulrich with a straight face.

He wondered if Ruel put Ulrich in a bad mood, or the attack those six years back had something to do with it, because it seemed like whatever Donovan said he would turn around and make it doom and gloom. While Donovan was use to being paranoid, seeing as that was part of the job description, it was something else when someone was acting paranoid for him.

Kara smiled thoughtfully, "I left my home in the city after I casted that spell on myself, now I wouldn't go back. Partly because there wouldn't be enough room now with all the children, good wide open areas are better. That and you don't have to worry about property damage as much."

Ulrich laughed. "If you insist," he allowed Donovan graciously, grinning mischievously. It was odd, he mused, how he had been so much the same fot over three thousand years - and now suddenly he was changing.

He dismissed the thought. It would do no good to dwell on it.

"Though I'm sure you're optimistic about some things," he added, still grinning.

Ulani nodded to Kara. "More and more people are leaving the cities to live in the forests," she murmured. "And while I do on one sense consider that to be a good thing ... I also fear that someday the valley might not be ... ours. Not the way it is now."

"Well only time will tell," Kara replied, "But as long as there is no large disaster this area just might get populated," she replied honestly, "Just hope that good winds come your way," she smiled softly.

She couldn't imagine what would happen if people began living in the outskirts of town near the inn, she hoped not, but there were always places to live in the open in Gaia, so she wasn't overly worried.

"I leave that to Kara," Donovan replied back gruffly, "She's just about optmistic enough for several people."

He was prepared to be whacked, even though he knew Kara was more interested in talking to Ulani. Though he supposed, if there was anything he could be honestly optimistic about was his relationship, both as lover and slowly as of father.

Ulrich chuckled lightly, then rose and stretched. "Well, nothing's going to get done on its own," he grinned. "What say we head outside, eh, Donovan? Start taking advantage of the day."

Ulani looked up at Ulrich's words and nodded her agreement. "Yes ... time marches on," she smiled. "The day waits for no one ... and will leave behind all who linger." She looked at the two tiny angels who were still sitting on the table. "And what are these two going to do today?" she laughed. "Besides being our little mannequins until they have a few more sets of clothes?"
