"*sigh...* Okay, fine. We'll go right, then? Agreed. Spaz, dude...use your claws to stratch that...just be careful! Okay, when we're all ready, let's head starboard..."

Managing to twist around and scratch his back with his left foot in a way that looked physically impossible, Spaz just smiled happily.
"Oh yeah, that's the spot... Wait, what's a 'Star bird'? Is that like a famous chicken? We don't have time for sightseeing."

He chuckled a bit. Spaz was fun to have around.
"It means we're heading right. Come on, everyone, let's go."
And with that, he picked himself off and began to crawl to the right...
The dark passage led on for quite some time...thankfully, his eyes were starting to habituate to the perpetual dark. He could actually see a foot or two in front of him, and stopped when the path turned left. Or...seemed to. He wasn't sure, but he knew there was a wall.
Aaaand he waited.

She rubbed her forehead, hoping to rid herself of any coming anger. Be nice was the thought of the moment. She chanted it to herself in her head over and over until she thought she would be sick. How did she become so reliant on a bracelet?
"So Luna, are you comfortable? I certainly hope so. I need you to scream on a low octave to wake up Emerald, here. She's rather inactive. Think you can manage to scream without killing us?"
Vixen certainly hoped so. This was obviously their last resort, and everything had become so messy. Fun, but messy.

She continued in a rather "I'm too good for this" voice...
Hm...yeah, I guess I could...Here. Hold out your hands towards Emerald. I'm going to emit a short burst of sound. It won't be very audible to you, but that's because I'm sending it all at Emerald...my hope here is to shock the neurons coding for Norepinephrine and Adrenaline...which are, thankfully, located all over the brain, including the area near the ear.
...What? Don't ask me how I know this. Just...extend your ******** hands. Sheesh.
Well, that was awkward...

"Hey, what's the hold-up, boss?" Spaz asked, trying to see past Kali's hindquarters. "Didja find a quarter? Because if you did it's MINE. I lost it last week. If you find anything else, that's mine too! Mine... that I lost... yeah."

Kali snorted. "Sure. Yours'. And yeah, what's the hold up, you hit a wall?" She raised an eyebrow. "If so, feel around, there's gotta be an opening somewhere. Who the hell would make a ventilation shaft that went no where, it's a waste of time and money. Try up. Or left. Or further right!" She suggested, scratching her nose. So she wasn't much help, but he sure was funny when he had to make decisions!

"Yeah, yeah..."
He shrugged it all off and made the only choice availiable to him: left. The path took a short turn, ending at another dead end. This one, however, was special...attached to the wall in front of his face...were ladder rungs. And they...they led to a grate! Freedom! WOOHOO! Finally, today was just getting better and better.
"GUYS! A WAY OUT! LOOK!"
Without even stopping to see their approval, he grabbed two rungs and began to climb the short upward shaft. This was it! Except...well, another dead end...a little grate, without holes or screws this time...was right above his head...
"Hey. Down below! I'm gonna lift this grate and check out the floor above us, okay? *At least...I think it's a floor* Okay, here I...uh, we go..."
He let go of the ladder with one arm and pushed hard against the metal cover with his good arm, hoping it would lift...

Success! He cracked open the lid...and slowly raised his head to its height...peering through the slot, he scanned the floor of the room.
It was, well, a room...he could see that it had grown decrepit over time...but at least it was a room...and no one was in it. That was the key.
Sensing no immediate danger, he carefully slid open the lid and motioned for the others to follow him up there.
Pulling himself up with a grunt, he scanned the interior before him...
Yellowed, cracked walls, cobwebs...tiled floor...aside from that, it was pretty much empty...
Wait. He turned around, to check behind him...and was startled by what he saw. Three medium-sized cardboard packages, conspicuously arranged and very new looking, lay before his eyes. On the middle one was a slip of notebook paper...with some kind of red-colored message on it...
Now things were getting interesting.
"Uh...guys?" he called out. "I think we've got us a little twist here..."

"Oh, I know that one!" Spaz called up, "♪Let's Twist again, like we did last summer! Come on, let's Tw-" There was a loud bang as Spaz came to the sudden and painful realization that a cramped air duct was no place to try out one's dance moves.
"Oww..."

He edged over to the note warily...should he open it? Who was it from? Was...was it intended for them specifically? If so, who put it there and how did they know...?
All sorts of questions ran through his mind, flooding his thoughts, and he whipped around, stuck with on solution.
"Kali!...Spaz! Wh...what do I d-do here...?"
He was shaking a little...he didn't even know why; this wasn't that much of a traumatic experience...but yet...something...yes, something of a huge magnitude was about to unfold. He could feel it...
And it would all start by reading that note.

It was all very awkward, indeed. Whatever. If it would mean that they would all end up very alive like, then she did not care. She extended her hands towards Emerald, feeling very foolish. She waited for the power to be emitted through her hands. She even gave Skip a sorta smile type thing, which probably resembled more of an, "I hate you look." Oh, well, can't hurt to try. Except, if this did not work, it would all hurt very much. She could almost see her spleen being ripped from her body. She should try that sometimes. On something else other than herself, of course.

Kali couldn't help but laugh at Spaz as she clambered up the rungs, brushing herself off when she came out of the duct and taking a deep breath of air, choking on the staleness of it. Then, she noticed the note."Well doesn't that look cryptic and morbid..." she said, staring at the red the message was written in. Her eyes momentarily wandered from the boxes and to the cobwebs, and she gave an involuntary whimper of fear. Shaking her head as if to rid herself of it, she walked over to the note and picked it up. "Dare me to open it?" She asked, twirling the paper around her fingers. "It might be useful, and tell us what's in the boxes. Or, it could be a trap and what's really in the boxes are bombs that'll blow us sky high." she gave the note to Brian and crouched down, poking a box. "Seems safe enough...Meh, I say we read the note." She said cheerily, eyeing the cobwebs and laughing nervously, searching the room for a door. Oh lord, please let there be a door..

Skip...stand back...
The bracelet glowed again, this time a little dimmer than before. You were all bracing yourselves for some big, amazing sound...but really, just a faint "pop" was heard.
Except it almost toppled Emerald over with surprise.
She was awake!!
Before you could thank the esper, she had already re-receded into her bangle, back to her slumberous state.
[Question. Do you want me to keep looking for a player for Emerald? This could take 2 days-ish. Or, I can start 'er up and wait 'til chapter three to put her in. Just let me know.]

There was no door in the room, but...well, they couldn't really be bombs. Could they...?
Brian watched tentatively as Kali held the note in her hand(s). HER hands? No. If anyone was gonna read this, it would be him. This was his mission, after all!
Snatching the letter from her grasp, he quickly broke the creepy red wax seal without taking note of its design. Tearing the outer sheath of the letter, he managed to get it all open without explosions or such. The envelope fell to the ground...he had missed a few details, but so what? He read the letter silently, as to filter out unwanted content...
...Well, it was to the point. The letter, in big red sharpie, read,
To Brian, the little thorn in my side,
Here's a little present. I like my prey to have a little fight in them before I turn them all into mindless, slobbering minions of the grave. Hope ya like whatcha get! Hee hee! Ta taaaa!
-K
