As the fire raged on around the forest, Irvine sat in the deepest corner of his cave. He was unperturbed by the chaos and flames that raged on outside his cave. His deep, dark, brooding was so unlike Irvine. Though Irvine was alive, he was dead at heart. There was no reason left inside of him to live. His father disowned him. His mother was being tortured in hell for his sins. And he loved no one. No one at all.
"How is it someone can live without love?"
His words echoed around him in his small cave. He looked outside and could see, through the waterfall, the flames that ate up the forest. He sighed. By tommorow, there would be no more forest. None at all. The trees would die. The grass would become a dull yellow, if there was any grass left. And as the flames ravaged the forest that Irvine had come to know so well, he saw somthing. Somone. And then a voice spoke inside his head. A woman's voice. It was calm, and gentle. Yet behind it was power and conviction.
"People who live without love learn to live off other emotions. Such as Anger. Hate. Rage. Fear. Take your pick Gray. You've felt all before. And we both know your incapable at loving."
"Who said that? Who is it that speaks to as if they know me? SPEAK AND LET YOUR SELF BE SEEN!"
There was a pause and a moment of silence. Irvine had now risin to his feet and was not but a few inches from the top of the cave. His silver cross that hung around his neck was glowing softly beneath his torn gray shirt. His white, tattered, cloak rustled softly against his pants as Irvine moved out of his dark corner and into the center of the cave. And then the voice spoke once more.
"Come outside. You will see me. And then you will know me."
Irvine hesitated. He was very weak from not eating and felt woozy. Though he knew he had to go outside and see who it was. He had to find out who this person was. Why they were doing this. Using the wall for support, Irvine made his way towards the enterance of the cave. He looked out at the raging fires from behind the waterfall, making them look blurry. He could hear the burning of branches and the snapping of twigs as wild animals ran from the flames. Irvine stepped through the waterfall, drenching himself in water. He looked around and saw no one. But then, movement caught his eye. Someone was moving through the flames. Irvine moved forward to see who it was. Flames created a barrier between him and the unknown figure. If he could just get through.
"Damn it! I cannot get to you! Who are you?! What do you want with me?! "
"So impatient. Wait and I will come to you. Your questions will then be answered."
Just as the voice left his mind, a beautiful woman walked through the flames. Irvine's eyes widened in awe as he stared at the woman. This couldn't have been the one who spoke to him earlier could it? Long, golden hair fell to her waist. Deep green eyes like emeralds shone brilliantly in the fire light. Curves that could make a man weep with desire. Though Irvine was strong. He did not fall to his knees and worship this beautiful woman like a godess. Oh, but how he wanted to. But questions needed answering first.
"Are you the one who has been speaking to me?"
The voice rang out in his mind although the woman was not but a few feet away.
"Indeed I am Irvine Gray. Now you see me. I have an offer for you. Would you like to hear it?"
Irvine paused. He stared at the woman long and hard. She smiled and approached. Her smiled was seductive, and her eyebrows quirked slightly when she did, making her all the more beautiful. And then it hit him. The Temptress. This was the Temptress. Which meant Irvine knew who this really was. His eyes widened with realization as he looked at the woman again. His heart sped up and his breathing quickened. The woman stopped and began to laugh. The laughter he heard was course, rough, cold, and most of all, disturbing. It was not the kind of laughter one would expect from such a beauty. The laughter that rang out around him also rang inside his head causing him to drop to his knees and worship the one who stood before him. Irvine let one word escape his lips as he looked up at the woman before him.
"Lucifer....."
"Hahahahaha! So....You've figured it out have you? Well, no matter. I was actually hoping you would. It would be very dull if you hadn't figured out my identity. Though that doesn't mean that my offer is not real. I really do have an offer for you Irvine Gray. Stand and listen."
Irvine did as he was told. What else could one do before the ruler of hell? His silver cross gleamed brilliantly from beneath his shirt and silver light shone brightly from beneath it. The woman before him looked at the cross with disgust. It was a "holy" object and therefore, the evil despised it for being a weapon of God. It hurt them also, giving them a jolt should they touch it. Irvine's hand went to his mother's cross and he pulled it from his neck. The cross flashed silver and then became Requiem, the Cross Blade. The woman hissed.
"I do not like that blade. It was an Arch Angel's weapon. You wield an ancient weapon, Gray. A powerful weapon. A weapon so powerful, I'm sure you do not know of it's true extent. I'm not suprised. Not all mortals have the power to tap into magical weapons and unleash their true strength."
"Forget the blade I wield, Temptress. Tell me of your offer. Then be gone."
"I was getting to that Gray. So impatient. If you acted more like your Mother then perhaps....Oh, wait. Your mother isn't around anymore is she? Pity. She always was a favorite mortal of mine."
Irvine gripped his blade tightly at the mention of his mother. The blade flashed silver again, but he hardly noticed. The woman had though. She glared at the blade with the deepest loathing, as if it were a real person. Irvine truly was growing impatient now, but then Lucifer began to speak again.
"Yes...That blade you wield was meant for me. That was to be MY sword. Requiem you call it. Yes, Requiem was forged for me by the Lord himself. When I finally recieved the blade, as you know, I tried to overthrow God and set myself up as ruler. Well that didn't sit to well and he still cast me out. He struck me down and I plummeted to Earth. And then with the fires of my rage I created Hell. Requiem was givin to Gabriel, God's new Champion and Messenger. Thats when I got the idea to create a sword of my own. And I did. A powerful sword, one that rivals Requiem. It too is sealed inside a Cross. The only other Cross Blade. I have givin it the name Nightmare."
"So...what do I care?"
"I know of your ongoing fued between Xol. I too have a score to settle with him. An old score. You see Xol struck me down and made himself ruler of Hell. I didn't quite like that, and have just recently broke out of the prison he fashioned for me. I would like you to kill Xol. I will give you Nightmare if you kill Xol for me. Nightmare will allow you to cut Xol and make him actually bleed. Do you accept my offer?"
Irvine's mind reeled at what he had just been told. The Ruler of Hell was offering him the chance to kill the man who sent him there in the first place. Irvine smirked. He sheathed Requiem into the scabbered on his back. He stuck out his hand for Lucifer to shake. Irvine was going to make a deal with the devil.
"I accept."
The Temptress took Irvine's hand and shook it once, then broke off the hand shake. The flames flared all around them as the pairs hands met. The Temptress smirked just as Irvine did and Lucifer's voice rang out inside his head once more.
"I'm glad you've accepted Irvine. But first, before you receive Nightmare, you must first claim it. I cannot give it to you. You must find the blade, and take it."
"What?! You mean you don't have it!?!?!"
"No. The blade was taken away when I was imprisoned. I cannot get it back either. I only know of it's location. And it's heavily guarded by the most deadly of creatures."
"Take me to where Nightmare resides. I'll claim it and then kill Xol."
"I was hoping you would say that. Now follow me Gray. We have a long road to travel. We head North. We travel to the keep of The Nineth Gate."
"Sounds fun."
Irvine followed in the Temptress's wake. The flames parted as she moved forward and Irvine followed closely behind. He had made a deal with Lucifer, the lord of the underworld. Irvine smirked. It was all just another chapter in Irvine's life.

*Deep in a relatively well lighten part of the forest is a small canopy made by some thick bushes and some twigs. After the events from the other night in Enid, TJ had fled with Aileen and found this canopy. Ever since then they'd stayed there. TJ knew where to find fruit and edible berries in the forest, so Aileen and himself didn't go hungry. Most of the time Aileen was asleep, she probably had to get over some of the effects of growing up in Forge's tank. TJ still hadn't gone back to Enid to get the girl some real clothing, knowing the town was looking for him. All Aileen had for clothing was the ragged cloak and some poorly made fabric shoes, so TJ often carried her when they went somewhere. Due to the cold of the forest, TJ had given one of his old jackets to Aileen. They were still far too big for her but they kept her warm at least. TJ sat against a tree in relatively normal clothing, except for the blind fold paoei. Inside, Aileen slept, nestled in TJ's jacket*

*TJ heard the not too far off yelling. He frowned behind the blindfold..... why should he care that they were looking for him. TJ remained where he was and didn't answer the girl. There were only a few people he would answer right now.... the girl wasn't one of those people*
