Maryke stiffened at the touch, she wasn't used to people feeling concerned about her. For too long she had been on her own, doing things her way. Estentially taking care of herself, but with everything that had been happening, just these last few days, she was probably at her weakest. Emotionally and pyschically. It was as if her rough living was being to catch up to her, and the added stress from this was taking it's toll.
That and for some odd reason, despite the outward appearance Maryke felt close to Awen, it wasn't complete and utterly, like she'd suddenly trust the girl fully. She wouldn't do that for anyone, but there was some level of trust there. Not to mention the fact that since she was on the island and Awen looked the way she did with no outside communitcation, then there wasn't a reason for Maryke to be worried about anyone tipping off the people that were chasing her.
"I'm not really a modeling agent," she said softly, "Of course, this is between me and you, but..." she shrugged and let out a bitter little laugh. "I came here for a resort, but also because I'm trying to escape a little confrontation with the FBI. Back home, I'm a madame...and quite good at it. That's how I'm fairly big on the Hollywood scene, I cater to those types."
Yes, in Maryke's one moment of emotional weakness, she let slip everything. Of course most people back home already knew that, in fact everyone that knew her knew it, but she had always had trouble telling people that weren't part of that gritty and dark world.

As Maryke began her confession Awen settled slowly down on the couch across from her. Her rubbery fingers slipped from the womans shoulders to rest on the couch's arm. She listen quietly and had prepared herself for the worst when the letters FBI sprang from Maryke's mouth. But in the end her explaination just left Awen confused.
"You're a madame?" She repeated in a puzzled tone. "What's wrong with being Fren---oh." After a short pause and a slow blink everything had clicked into place in the girl's mind. "Oooh!"
A smile crept it's way to Awen's lips as she shook her head. "When you said you were in trouble with the law, I was worried that you had killed someone, or something like that." It wouldn't be the first time someone on the island had come because they had killed.... Awen's mind briefly wandered to Jamal and when he confessed to her what he had done back on mainland.
"But a madame, well, that's not really that bad." She scratched an itch on her neck as her skin felt as though it had begun to dry out. The tone that Maryke had used and the look she had had on her face gave Awen's outburst pause a moment. Taking a deep breath Awen settled into her more usual caring smile. "But I suppose I can also understand how difficult it seemed to be to tell me that. Thank you for your honesty, I really appreciate it."

Maryke grinned, it was a weary little grin of sorts, "No, I've never killed....I've had people killed though. The world I play in is a dangerous game," she said, and again there was that flicker of something in her hazel eyes.
Of course Maryke was no usual criminal. She wouldn't intentionally kill someone, as it was beneath her. She wouldn't force any of her girls into doing something or someone as it were. But...she did manipulate them into working for her. Lie to them. She'd had people killed before, just to get her way. And her most recent endevour was getting as much fine powder as she could. A new vice for her to dabble in. So even though she wasn't as tough or wasn't the most scariest criminal, did it make her one of the more powerful ones?
Yes. And it wasn't exactly something Maryke reveled in. She reveled in the material things, having the power of course, but whenever she thought of the moral side of it, it really did get to her. "You're welcome..." she said before running a hand through her wavey brown hair. "You seem trustworthy enough. 'Sides, I guess what we once were doesn't really matter here."

"Not really huh?" Awen said and sighed slowly. "Just gott make a new life here, after all, not much more we can do." A small tingling itch ran up the mantas arm, but she avoided scratching it for now. Instead she slowly stood up.
"Well!" She said with a small stretch. "I think it's about time I head back home. Been out of the water for a little too long and I think I'm getting flakey again..." She scooped up the book she had been reading before Maryke had arrived then paused. "If you ever need anything, I'm over in duplex twenty one, if I'm not there, here or at the arcade...I'm probably swimming in the lake. Just stop by and I'll be happy to help."
Awem then made her way carefully to the door, walking awkwardly on her flipper-like feet. "Take care Maryke!"

She nodded and then gave out her own small little wave, just feeling relieved that despite the ordeal of the island at least the people in it were okay. "Will do... take care as well," she said as Awen left the room.
She stayed a few more beats herself, just thinking to herself. Thinking about the strangeness of the place she was in and then she finally got up herself with a sigh. After moment's hesitation she left, retreating back to her own duplex.

NEW RP
He and Colche had arranged to meet for their daily lessons in the entertainment room this time, and Joshua made his way there from his duplex, ducking his head under the doorframe so he wouldn't hit his head. He wondered for a moment how Colche would feel if they just started meeting outside more often instead as he sat down on the couch, stretching his long legs out in front of him with a sigh.

As usual, the energetic cheetah girl came pouncing in with a furry flurry and a smile. her sweet blue eyes danced happily as she hopped over to the couch and pounced in to the cushions before righting herself and sitting cross legged with a huge grin on her furry maw.
She was in a good mood, her eyes shimmered happily her lips turned in that huge kittyish grin, though her eyes rested, adoreingly on the very tall man that was her teacher, her head tilted back a bit to see his face. "haihai" she pouurrs finally speaking, she was obviously in high spirits for some reason.

He smiled then the cheetah girl pounced onto the couch, setting herself down beside him. "Well, hello there miss Colche, you seem to be more energetic today than usual. Any reason why?" he asked curiously, relaxing back against the cusions with a grin on his face. "Did you bring your book with you?"

Colche giggled, Josh could be silly sometimes, noone else called her miss Colche. She held out her book, the newest story they had started, the story of mrs Frisby and the rats of Nimh, she grinned nodding vigerously, though she set her book down on the couch in front of her and took a deep breath. "Kinda" She stated wriggling a bit, her tail whacking around behind her. Her tail usually did this little perfomance when she was a bit nervous and though she was full of beans, and quite possibly a hand full of E numbers, she couldn't seem to squeeze out what she was meant to say.
Biting her tongue she turned her gaze on the book, those blue eyes fixed upon the title. She was clearly trying to say something, but it just wouldn't come out. Huffing she picked up the book and held it out to josh, her nerve had failed her, though her adrenelin rush didn't seem to want to fade and she wriggled quite alot more than usual.

"Oh yes?" Joshua wondered if perhaps she just had too much sugar today, causing her to be so hyper. "Did you have a lot of candy before coming to see me?" He smiled as he took the offered book from her, flipping it open and turning the pages to where they last left off. He was proud of how much she has improved since they started her lessons, and even though he didn't want to be trapped here, and even though he thinks there were better ways to have saved the young cheetah girl, he was glad that he could be here to at least help her with this. It was obvious to him that learning made her happy, and he wanted to help her with that.
He noticed her tail twitching quite a lot today, and he glanced at her curiously. "Something on your mind? You can tell me anything, you know," he smiled.

Colche took a deep breath. She nodded a bit, smarties, they were one of her favourite new sweeties and eating a whole tube full was not a good idea they made her twitchy. Breathing outwards she calmed a bit and looked up at Josh. She didn't want to keep secrets from the man, he was helping her so much but her nerve had gone. Her jaw set solidly and she nudged closer to josh. Biting her tongue for amoment she grabbedehr tail in her furry fingers, looking down at ehr extra, rather naughty appendage, she looked embarressed. Josh certainly knew how to read her now.
Quietly the little cheetah girl mumbled something that was rather incoherent and spoken far too fast under her breath "ilikesujosh" she bites her tongue and peers over his arm in to the book where he had opened the page. If she could have blushed she would have, instead her eyes were full of embarressed silence, her gaze set firmly on the page in question, though she did, shyly peep up at the man to see what his reaction was.

Joshua only blinked at first, he wasn't sure exactly what the girl had said. It took him only a few moments to realize, though, and when he did Joshua just smiled at her. "Well, I like you too, Colche," he said, not understanding the true meaning behind her words. Joshua was rather clueless when it came to that, he wouldn't realize someone was flirting with him unless they were very blunt about it. Besides that, Colche was young, and Joshua has never even considered such feelings towards her. "Is that all that was on your mind?"

Colche looked a little confused for a moment. Her sweet blue eyes calculating what she had just said and what Josh had replied. pouting for a moment, her ears flattened, she must have said it wrong. Sighing a bit she gave a nod. Why couldn't she just make the words work properly? Licking her lips she leaned against the tall man and pawed at the pages of the book she was reading.
"Uh huh" she whispered at last a half hearted reply, the wind had been knocked out of her sails, she didn't know how to make josh understand what she meant. For a moment, she was quiet, trying hard to think of another way to put it. Swallowing hard her brain ticked over the only idea she had ever fully understood. Clearing her throat she turned those innocent, perfect blue eyes up at the man, "will Josh be prince...for.." she trailed off, she hadlost the wordin her concentration, her brow creased and her tongue peered out between he lips. she was feeling very silly now. She had never felt so embarressed, without the words at her disposal howcould Josh ever understand. Lowering her gaze once again she concentrated hard on the book, trying to make ehrself dissapear in the words, trying to grab the one she needed to complete the sentence. "me" she whispered her voice a silent murr.

Oh.
Oh, that's what she meant.
Joshua suddenly felt uncomfortble. Had he done something wrong? He hadn't been leading her on in some way, had he? Joshua found himself at a loss of what to say. He didn't want to hurt the girl's feelings, but she was... far too young for him. In addition to that, he was practically her teacher. Perhaps not officially as he was only doing it voluntarilly, but still.
What was he supposed to say? This was not a situation he was used to dealing with.
He lowered the book down to his lap before clearing his throat to speak. "Colche... normally, when people look for a prince or princess, they try to find someone closer to their own age. I'm certainly not a young man anymore. You're a very nice girl, Colche, and I have no doubt that you will one day find your prince... but I'm not sure that I'm a suitable choice of a prince for you."

Colche's ears flattened tightly against her black mane of hair. She almost cringed looking crushed, bent in two by the words he spoke. She didn't understand what age meant. She knew she was seventeen, though the acctual understanding of what that meant didn't exactly compute. Perhaps a normal young lady would have complained that she was seventeen, but Colche simply looked at him with a confused blur in her deep blue eyes.
Licking her furry lips the little cheetah girl took a breath and asked the only question which seeped in to her mouth without her even having to think about it "why?" her gaze turned from that of confusion to a deep prying question. She didn't understand, she liked Josh, he was sweet and handsome, he was kind and gentle and looked after her in a way that no man had ever before, he was her teacher and she adored him for that fact. Her heart beat heavily against her ribs and her jaw set in a hard line those deep blue eyes full of the simple question, a question it was doubtful she would understand the answer to.
