how do you finish the last row while knitting? (purl)

if the last row you knit is purl and you're working in stockinette stitch, do the knit b/o. If your last row is knit, do the purl b/o.

Crochet question- How do I crochet round things?
I'm totally stumped. I can do scarves like nobody's business. But nothing round or circley or whatever. I think its the joining bit that gets me, but the whole thing is just confusing to me. I've looked up zillions of tutorials but none of them explain them simply enough for me to understand/detailed enough for me to not get confused. >.>
