Himitsu slowed his sprint and came to a stop a few feet from the entrance to the Hokage's Office. He took a minute to catch his breath and straighten out his clothes, brushing the dust off himself in the process. Once he'd mostly collected himself, he walked through the door to the office and checked in at the desk. "Hi, Himitsu Uchiha. I was told to check in here at... Well now, actually." The shinobi looked through a book on their desk before directing him up the stairs toward Sadayo's actual office. Himitsu gave his thanks, then made his way up the seemingly endless stairs to the top. His legs were a bit sore after the hike, especially considering his nearly record-breaking sprint here just minutes before. Unsure whether the Hokage was busy in her office, Himitsu opted to wait outside for a while before knocking. He listened for sounds of conversation to confirm other business was going on inside as he waited patiently across the hall.

Coda watched the Uchiha enter the building out of the corner of her eye, appearing to busy herself with the report instead. He presented a way to expedite the achieving of her own goal, and she was fond of doing her homework on potential future mission objectives. As he wandered off towards the office, Coda sealed the report and tucked it beneath her cloak. She gestured for Cadence to follow after letting the kid get far enough ahead. Up she climbed, stepping onto the landing as Himitsu settled against the wall opposite the office. She made no attempts to hide her or the much larger Cadenceโs approach.
In fact, her eyes didnโt leave the Uchiha as she leaned against the wall, fixating on him without so much as a word. Coda was never much of a talker, but she also found compulsory responses to be valuable information and was presented with an opportunity to probe for common ones. Besides, she hadnโt really gotten a chance to interact with anyone except the Oinin and Sadayo since earning her promotion and donning the travel cloak that denoted her rank.
What would this member of the famously stoic Uchiha do in the face of a higher ranking shinobi? What about when presented with a potentially awkward scenario? Or an obviously foreign face such as Cadence? Would he abide the silence, putting his energy into fending off his own desire to break it? There was much to learn from this interaction.
For her part, the muscle bound woman that followed Coda possessed none of the Koninโs inherent harshness, despite her size. While every part of the Yozen seemed chiseled from stone, both in persona and physique, Cadenceโs big shoulders and the bigger arms attached to them seemed softer - the type earned by genetic disposition and a favorable profession rather than careful consideration. Her face, and the expression on it, was also softer, more quizzical even as she stood a few inches over six feet; more than enough to meet Himitsuโs gaze unobstructed from behind Coda.

ย Elsewhere, the action had subsided enough to stir the puppet to life again. There weren't much in terms of sounds going on in the office. The Sadayo puppet had all honesty crashed after the last guests left the room. It would've been a worrisome sight if someone saw it. The strings had "slacked", if you will, while the puppeteer was devoting every once of her energy to not dying and killing unfortunate voluneteers. The second Sadayo jolted upward and looked around to collect her bearings. In time, one incognito puppet had managed to reach the office door and stick her head, ponytails and all, out of the cracked door. The doll, who was nearly a perfect replica of the Fire shadow, spied one Himitsu. "Hi. She announced herself in a way that sounded like she was out of touch with something. "Sorry. Didn't I see you earlier? N-nevermind. What can I do for you?" At this point, Sadayo's double had pushed aside the door to clear the doorway.

Well, what was to be expected really? Nobody knew who he was anymore! An old silverback that, at this point, was frankly more silver than back. He drummed his fingers on his thighs, whistling the tune to a commercial he heard on the radio this morning. He kept glancing at the receptionist, waiting for an update for when he could go see the Hokage. At this point it was just long enough, and the looks just frequent enough, that she was starting to become visibly awkward from the situation. 'Yeah yeah alright, I'll take the hint'
He stood up and stretched, rotating his still substantial shoulder muscles and letting out a grizzly bear-like yawn. The old Sannin slapped his cheeks to wake himself up before crossing the reception area to where the vending machines were. 'Oh- Terikayi Jerky?! Man Konoha is really on the up-and-up!' Placing his dollar into the machine, he wait excitedly as the circular piece of metal turned; soon to deposit his most desired treat into his hand and, shortly afterwards, into his belly.
However, it seemed fate had other plans. For, at the last moment, the device stopped rotating! The jerky was dangling precipitously over the void which would have delivered it to the muscled man's hunger-wrought stomach! "Hey! No!" The blonde behemoth cried, shaking the machine to no avail "No no fair! No!" His outburst was starting to draw attention but dammit he was getting his jerky!

Mina walked through the door to the Hokage office. She was dressed in her civilian clothes, as her shinobi gear still smelled of fire. A few bandages were evident on her arms and her face, from where glass and other shrapnel had cut her open. Even the Forbidden Seal on her shoulder was on full display, not something the young woman often showed. Minaโs thoughts were preoccupied with the events at the Summit. Her mind flashed to three Jashinists that sheโd fought, her mind racing on any information that would be useful for victory later. No-one in her group had died, but it still felt like an overwhelming loss. Mina couldnโt help but feel, for all her talk about protecting her home, that her own strength didnโt amount to much.
โAh!โ An explosion of noise knocked Mina from her reverie. Standing in the Hokage Office reception wasโฆ a second homeless-looking muscle man. His antics revolved around trying to retrieve a snack from the machine, and causing quite the ruckus as he did. โBummer.โ Mina commented to herself after the initial shock wore off. The Chunin felt for him, but she had business to attend to.
โHi there, my nameโs Mina. I was summoned by Lady Sadayo?โ Mina didnโt know what the Hokage needed to speak to her about. Nothing urgent came to mind, anyway. The receptionist told her it would be a small wait, which caused Mina to look at the man at the vending machine. โYeah, thatโs fine.โ She replied, giving the large man a strange side eye. โOh!โ Mina rummaged around in her waist bag before pulling out a scroll. She looked at it for a second: it was the scroll containing the puppet that that monster made from Lahilโs corpse. The very thought of it made her sick. โCan you make sure she gets this, by the way? Thank you.โ
With her check-in finished, Mina looked around. With nothing else to do, and her curiosity piqued, she went over to the giant man. โUhm, excuse me?โ She leaned forward into his field of view., blinking up at him with her green eyes. โDo you need help?โ
It was a long, tiresome trip that drained her emotionally more than it did physically. And, regrettably, her first stop was the administration building. She had a puppet that needed cleaning up. Crashing sounds and distressing wailing didnโt coax her to walk any quicker. She did have a staff, right? In time. In good time she arrived. The ponytail-less, eyebrow-less Sadayo had stopped some feet away from one lamenting behemoth shaking a machine (probably with ease). This isnโt what she anticipated coming home to. Karuto- of all people- pleading to a machine isnโt at all what she wanted to come home to. The deadpan look on her face was plenty proof of such. She stood there to soak in the growing sense of disappointment.
โKaruto,โ Sadayo said at last with a momentโs pause to let her late arrival sink in. โPromise me youโll never do this in front of my child.โ This sentiment she was serious about. The puppeteer often consindered as one who was well behaved. Little Azami didn't need more messy manners to learn and unlearn. Her dangling cloak stirred as she revealed her hand. Pointing at the machine. โAnd that youโll just flick the glass out like the civilized meathead I know you to be.โ this sentiment was one Sadayo was not serious about. But her tone was too lackluster, worn, and heavily missing the light hearted sarcasm. She strung a vibrantly visible orange string to pluck the first thing she knew meatheads would like to eat. Meat. The curving metal ring holding back the precious snack was bugging out but gave way to nothing! โKaruto. How long have you been here?โ How long has someone decided to make you wait? Her double was deployed the whole time and some portion of Sadayo's psyche was inching toward concern that somebody else blew her cover. Mina? No. The doubled hadn't seen Mina yet. The Fire Shadow eyed Mina briefly, as if she didn't want the girl to abandoned hope on the moment just yet, before looking back up to herโฆ friend. Yes. Friend! They were friends!
Without eyebrows, it was easy showing off that stale look she wanted.
As the boy waited, he noticed a pair approach and lean on the wall across from him. He gave a slight head nod to the person in front before turning his attention away. Eventually his gaze drifted back toward them, and he noticed the tattooed one in front was, apparently, still staring at him. Instead of taking offense or getting uncomfortable, the Uchiha chose to find humor in it. Himitsu gave a brief smile before opening his mouth to speak. Before any sound could come forth, the Hokage opened her office door and addressed him. "Oh... Um... No, ma'am, we've never met directly before. It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Hokage! My name's Himitsu Uchiha. I was sent a message to meet in your office about something today. It didn't specify what. I hope I haven't caused any problems..." The boy did his best not to trip over his words as he rambled, trying not to let his nerves show. It was bad enough showing up to a meeting with no idea what it was a bout. It was another thing to have that meeting with a Hokage you've never met before. When she opened the door to him fully, he walked in and stood a few feet from the desk.

Here he was- the strongest man in the world. Master of Taijutsu, Eldest Sannin of the leaf...shoulder deep in a vending machine with his one remaining arm, trying to reach his gods damned jerky. That was the state some little red haired girl found him in. His tongue was half sticking out in concentration as he tried to grab the package that was just beyond his fingertips. He didn't turn away from the wall of glass which separated him from what he oh so rightly deserved as he responded to the girls query: "Eh what? Help? Uhhhh...damn it!" He exclaimed as he narrowly missed the treat yet again "Unless you got a key to this thing, or some jerky in your pocket, I don't think so"
The voice of Sadayo, however, necessitated his attention. She strode up to him as she usually did- all sass and too much class. Still, even he had to admit the situation was kinda silly. He gave her what he hoped as an endearing grin before taking one last swipe at the jerky "Oh...hey Sadayo. Wha- you're kid. Yeah, no, promise. The Beta Baby is good to go" When the Hokage rather effortlessly retrieved his treat, he accepted the jerky gratefully- tearing into it with his one hand and teeth to open it before munching down happily. "Yeah I could have" He said between bites "But then I would have had to buy a new one and...yeah kinda broke right now" As he finished the jerky, he let loose a pleased sigh before addressing her question "Oh uhhhh, like 20 minutes or so? I've just be sat in your little waiting area. Nice place."

They guy who stocks it complains about walking up here, Iโm sick of him low-key whining to the receptionist, and I keep telling him our contract has long expired. But someone keeps paying him.โ A loud emphasis on the word โsomeoneโ has a weird timing with the receptionist who fakes a cough and excuses herself from the desk. โIโll play dirty and brush little things like that under the rug for a friend.โ On this note, she look at Mina and smiled. A brief, big, cheeky smile that wrinkled her nose.โWhat? I think twenty minutes ago I was still on the street?โ She ultimately shrugged and flicked her wrist at the thought. โDoesnโt matter. I was somewhere that wasnโt here. You had good timing, though, Karuto. I can tell you all about what our slice of the world is buzzing about right now. Iโll take care of you too, Mina.โ
She waved for the Leafโs Legendary fistfighter and the little avatar of Matatabi to follow her to the office room. Her busy strings were at work, meanwhile, but she was closing in soon enough that the double facade wasnโt much to fuss with anymore. The office door was left open when the her puppet double began the initial greeting. From behind, Sadayo replied to the genin before stepping into the room with her guests in tow.โHello, Himitsu Uchiha.โ Himitsu was seen just some feet away from the desk with her double just floating somewhere in the space between the door and the desk. โNo, youโve done nothing wrong.โ She carried on as if the appearance of a second, slightly different looking Sadayo as if this was business as usual. โKaruto, if you want to enjoy your snack for a moment,โ She looked back at the towering giant as she stepped to the side of her double. This room had high ceilings for a reason. โIโll take care of the affairs of aspiring personnel.โ Sadayo swept arm around her look-alikeโs hip and plucked her double off the floor to hoist it over her shoulder. It had ponytails to flop. She crossed behind her desk and knelt to place her double down, out of sight, on the floor. No strings attached!
โMina. Himitsu, the two of you have excelled within your respective ranks,โ she announced as she stood to try and meet theri gaze. She might have been more tired than she realized but Sadayo was still capable of maintaining the most of an official address. โHimitsu, you are qualified to take a step up and join the intermediate ranks and take on new responsibilities as a leader allowed to guide your peers on assignments.โ It was really just days ago the cautious fireball was reinstated her rank but she held her own and survived in the mayhem behind them. โ Mina. You are also qualified to join the elite ranks where you will continue to uphold your responsibilities to our village and are officially permitted to take a squadron under your wings. You are both allowed to accept or deny this offer. โ
The appearance of a second Sadayo along with a couple other people surprised Himitsu for a moment, but he quickly composed himself. After all, clones were a relatively normal thing in a shinobi village, right? The boy had just come from a sparring match that his Shadow Clone had fought for him, so it wasn't that odd. Now that the "real" Hokage had shown up, the clone did seem a bit different from the original, but the boy couldn't place what it was. When Sadayo began speaking again, he snapped his attention back to her immediately. And was immediately confused once more when she just... lifted up her clone and hid it away, like a mannequin being put in storage for the night. "Sooooo... Not a clone? Some kind of automaton? A super puppet? Wait, can Sumika do that? Holy s**t, is Sumika a puppet? Would she even tell us if she-"
Sadayo spoke again, addressing him and the woman who had entered with her. The teenager blinked away a couple of excited tears that tried to form as the Hokage gave him praise and offered him a promotion to Chunin. She then turned her attention to the other woman, who was also offered a promotion, but to Jonin. Although he didn't know the woman, he was excited for her as well. When Sadayo had finished speaking, he gave his answer quickly, only hesitating long enough to make sure he wouldn't be trampling over the words of "Mina" as she answered. "Thank you, Lady Hokage. I happily accept." The boy responded, and bowed briefly while waiting to hear Mina's answer. His attention drifted to the giant man off to the side for just a moment, but stopped himself from staring.

She cocked her fist back, readying it with fire and force. She was prepared to knock the accursed jerky free of its confines. Mina went to swing on the side of the vending machine and only stopped at the last second as she saw the snack leaving the machine.
โOh! Lady Sadayo!โ Mina instantly removed herself from her punching stance and bowed to her Kage. She did her best to try and look like she wasnโt about to commit an act of vandalism. It didnโt look like Sadayo cared, however, and led them all to her office.
โJonin?โ Mina blinked at the offer. She slid a presented folder from Sadayoโs desk and leafed through the, wellโฆ young Leaf shinobi. Her own squad. Mina had never thought of being a teacher before. And, while sheโd been reinstated, the young woman was still unsure about her position. Could she be trusted not to bring harm to these young shinobi? Mina was considered a bad luck charm by some, including herself. But something sheโd learned on her path to recovery was to take the dive, instead of worrying about the fall. โYes, of course!โ Mina smiled and placed the folder under her arm. โThank you so much. And, Himitsuโฆ youโre one of Kaiโs students yeah?โ She turned to the young Uchiha and clapped a hand on his shoulder. โCongrats, making Chunin isnโt easy! Iโm sure your sensei would be proud.โ
Munching silently, Karuto found a lovely corner to lean against in the room and waited as Sadayo conducted her administrative tasks- a pleasant ones they were- two promotions! As the Raiken finished his Jerky, he gave the pair a thumbs up "Oi congrats you two. Those are both no mean feats. Go and give it your all!" He gave them a wink and his, quite literally, award winning smile to reinforce the message. "Come on down to the gym sometime if you wanna do a bit of practice. I'm pretty much a southpaw now, but I still got a trick or two in the ol' bag"

With the disappearances over time, the only one who still managed to keep his face around the village was Karuto. โThen itโs official and youโre all now able to hear about what I got back from.โ tab โWe were attacked by Jashinsts.โ For a moment, she raised a finger as if counting. โOther villages were raided by Jashinsts, a grand fortress in the Lightning Empire was also raided by Jashinsts. Weโve encountered numerous like minded individuals across the continent who are all expressing the same demand to wipe the world clean of anyone who isnโt devout to this Nagakabourous, to Jashin, the death god. A summit council composed of the continentโs paramount military leaders all swore not to give in to their demands and I intend to stick by that promise. If you want to wear those ranks well, grow, lift yourselves and your allies, and prepare to eradicate this threat.โ tab Himitsu and Mina were dismissed. tab For a moment, with the younger generation filing out, Sadayo could finally, finally, put her guard down. She sighed. Exhausted. โIโm sorry,โ she said quickly and flopped into the seat of her chair. There wasnโt much relief in the careless drop. A jarring pain in the center of Sadayoโs being frankly rattled her out of exhaustion and rekindled her attention to a lower rib. โI sucked the joy right out of the room!โ That was just three people who were warned about the Jashinsts. Their entire populace would hear the news soon. โNext, I get to suck the joy out of the village and weโll get to watch our power dynamics with big angry beasts shift at the worst of times.โ
The things she could tell Karuto. Oh, the things. Interesting, unpleasant things and some things that could fall into place poorly. But who knew? She didnโt know Karuto as one to brood for long. Or destructively. Although, she could be completely missing the mark. The fact of the matter stood that he had been waiting to see her and spoiling this rare visit with every bit of bad news would spell out a bad visit. With the pangs of her injuries passing, Sadayo opts to recline against the chairโs armrest. On some hope he could buy the conversation a moment more of actual pleasantries, providing her full attention, Sadayo bats her eyelashes and poses a fairly simple question: โso whatโs new with you?
Himitsu smiled as Mina accepted her promotion. He was a bit surprised when she addressed him, mentioning Kai. "Oh, um, yes!" When she congratulated him it was washed away his confusion with pride and excitement. "Thank you! I'm excited to tell him!" The giant man that had entered with the others spoke as well. He didn't know the man, but it he appreciated his words no less. "Thanks! I will! I'll have to come by in my free time some day. I'd love to pick up a few new moves." Something about the man instilled confidence in the boy, and his cheerful disposition encouraged Himitsu's mood even further. Sadayo spoke again, enlightening Himitsu to the man's extraordinary status. Suddenly he felt guilty he hadn't known who the man was, and worried he'd been unintentionally disrespectful. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize, sir! It's an honor to meet you." The boy bowed quickly before turning his attention back to the Hokage's new briefing.
The news of the Jashinists blasted a wave of seriousness back into the office once again. Himi had narrowly missed the attack on Konoha, only arriving back in the village in time to assist with the aftermath. But the attacks around the world were news to him. "So they've been launching attack everywhere... I wonder what this means for Akira. I'd better start keeping an eye on that lunatic. She doesn't seem the sort to make those kind of moves, but she is psychotic..." As Sadayo finished her briefing, her last few words rang in Himitsu's head. "...grow, lift yourselves and your allies, and prepare to eradicate this threat.โ She then dismissed him and Mina, and he filed out as requested. He gave Mina a quick smile and wave before departing, heading home to share the news with his mom.

Karuto watched with a satisfied smile as Himitsu paid his respect and quickly absconded to venue's presumably less crowded. "See ya, kid" He called after the boy, right as the door shut on his way out. Once he was gone, the Raiken shifted his attention to the Hokage, all traces of joy vanished from his face. And it was only in such a physical state that Karuto showed his age- only then did he betray the exhaustion in his bones and the deep sadness in his eyes. A perceptive eye would notice it, the look of a man who had endured much, and yet as quickly as it came, it went. Karuto gave Sadayo a sympathetic smile regarding her bringing the vibe in the room down "It's why I never wanted the job, and likely why nobody ever offered it to me" He crossed his arms, briefly reflecting on the events that had transpired in this room in the prevailing years, but quickly snapped back to reality "The only method I have to deal with problems is punching. Strategy, meetings, power dynamics? Bah, I have no use for such things. Not many left here remember the ways of the Sand Village" He said, jerking his thumb to the headband he still wore on his hip "But I do"
