But Ernst really did need to keep going. There wasn't gonna be room to retreat, here. The bird was too big and the snow piled too high for Ernst to be able to realistically get out of this entire thing scot-free. He dashed forward with his shield and bashed frantically, retreating only when he was too tired to keep the barrage up.
That should make up for some of his hesitance, right? He'd wait for an opportunity to do it again.

Diryas didn't have the words at hand to accurately and precisely describe his reaction to seeing the giant bird. He would have to ponder the issue later, after it'd been killed. Was it even alive? Keeping an eye on Zebulon as the other ran closer to use his shield, Diryas dismissed the question almost as immediately as it occurred. that was something else he could think about later.
His whip soared through the air, cracking against the giant metal bird. It wouldn't kill it, unfortunately, but hopefully it would help.

Until this point, her movements have been slow, mostly defending instead of attacking -- feathers spreading and beak opening again and again in that silent scream. This time, though, she doesn't satisfy herself with that. Instead she reaches out with one foot and snatches up Zebulon, dragging him off his feet. With the other she grabs Rob, and her grip is impossibly solid, clutching him tight enough to drive the breath out of him. Finally she ducks her head down, beak open, diving surprisingly fast. In it she catches Mal, snatching him off his feet. Her wings flap once, twice. It drives everyone back a couple steps, and she takes off the ground slowly, rising up out of reach. Still, she clutches the thrashing Chosen in her grasp. _____________________________ OOC:Before the battle can begin again in earnest, you must break the monster's grip on her prey! Each foot has 10 HP. The beak has 20 HP. When you attack please specify left foot, right foot or beak, as well as how much damage you do! If you have a ranged weapon, you can attack as usual. If you do not have a ranged weapon, you can throw a rock; roll 1d4: 1 - miss 2 - miss 3 - 1 damage 4 - 2 damage xelhaspixiestix at this time, Mal takes 10 DMG, and cannot attack! Seiana_ZI at this time, Zebulon takes 5 DMG, and cannot attack! tatterpixie at this time, Rob takes 5 DMG, and cannot attack!

That--this was bad, she thought, as the chosen were taken up in the mighty bird's grasp. There's a second, maybe only a blink, where she stared at the three wondering and hoping but then she goes on the attack. The beak worried her the most and she lashed her whip towards it, glad when it snapped against it. She prays the three can hang on. Marisol's Health: 47 HP Damage: (200% x 4) = 8 DMG

And then the creature decided that it had enough. Briiva couldn't help but be impressed with how the bird moved, to her at least, it was mesmerizing to watch as it took flight. She was instantly thrown back into reality as it swooped up some of the chosen that she had been fighting with, however. Puling her bow taut, Briiva took quick aim at the things beak, careful not to aim at the person trapped inside it. She let loose, and was up on her feet and re-positioning before the arrow hit its mark. Silently, she drew again and took aim.

Cat watched on as her friend leaped into the fray, she was nervous for Beth, for all of them really and nodded towards Brian as she notched another arrow. Then the bird struck back at their forces and Cat gasped as she watched her comrades were swept up in the clutches of the beast. She loosed an arrow towards the great bird's right foot and let out a roar of satisfaction as it sunk into its mark. Ha, ha, ha.
Ernst's shield had done nothing. He hadn't even seen that coming - kidnapping, instead of flying feathers or poop. Worse, they were all people he recognized that she'd scooped up. Rob from his dorm, of course, and the other two from the slopes, although he'd never caught their names. One of them had witnessed his Ayn Rand shame.
And the bird was too high now for him to do anything, even combining his own reach and the shield's. But he couldn't actively stand there and do nothing. Keeping his shield parallel to the ground, Ernst bent over and picked up a rock, aiming, with a frown, at the bird's left foot, because it looked a lot closer than the beak. Fortunately he hit, but it didn't seem like it was doing much.

Horrified to see the bird picking up Rob, she fired off an arrow at the right foot hoping to make the creature drop him and the other Chosens. It was then she realized they were also Mal and the guy she and Sid fought along side earlier. The hell!

Diryas didn't have time to react to what he saw before he saw Zebulon held in one of those giant feet. A sudden sense of cold blossomed out from his chest, his hands and feet and face tingling a bit. Speaking of feet, the whip nearly whistled as he pulled it back and snapped it immediately towards the foot that was holding Zebulon. The sounds around him faded away from his attention.

Beth's bravado all but fled as the bird flapped up into the air. She raised an arm to cover her face and crouched instinctively to make herself less of a target. The bird then grabbed some of their fellow Chosen--including the guy who had helped them with the settee! Beth let out a screech and stretched herself as much as she could to give her whip the most length possible and hit that sucker in the mouth. Beak. Whatever.

The sight of three Chosen being snatched up like so many rag dolls, Misha gasped and lowered her buckler as she stared in horror. It was only a second but it felt like forever. She vaguely recognized Mal from the bonfire and Rob... Well, Rob had been enjoying some high quality kissing just minutes before!
Her temper flared again and she bent to snatch up a rock. Heaving it overhand, she was glad to see it land with a loud and authoritative CLANG.
