Alyx was mostly unnecessary in this particular dance of death. He would have been more helpful if he'd just put his shield between Rota and the... Oh yeah. Alyx was a little late to the realization that this thing was going to ex- BOOM! Alyx was engulfed in a massive ball of fire and... Well, frankly, it tickled. He was sure that at some level, this was supposed to be terrifying and dangerous, but at his level, this was just mostly annoying. Oh, well. The chances of this thing getting back up after it had been atomized twice in the space of two minutes was not incredibly likely, so Alyx was willing to bet that all would be fine. He even sheathed Gloomshard.

Alyx thought about what he was going to do with his loot. He had ideas, naturally, but a lot of him was wondering about the update that he'd heard about: allowing an account to have multiple characters. If it was true, it would radically redefine the game. What would he be able to do with such an opportunity? He'd be able to experiment with parts of the system that he'd never be able to do as Alyx. How much of the game was he missing due to his focus on raiding as Alyx? What sort of opportunities would there be for a second character? What would he wear? But more seriously: what would he specialize in? He needed something that would be useful to the group, but also acceptable as a farming tool. Something that he could play consistently, instead of having to rely on someone else for protection or for damage... How could one achieve that sort of balance in this game?

He shouldered his blade once more as he began walking towards the door again, confident that he had done everything. It couldn't stand up again, so all was well.

Alyx was already walking toward the doors when.... No... No... Not even. "Are you serious? Can't you take a joke you ugly broad!?" He listened to the battle theme behind him, and turned to face the music. Within the crater that had been the last reincarnation of the shittiest mob in this dungeon, there was forming some new, even more bullshit version of the stupidest ******** piece of s**t in this entire Gloomwood. He was ashamed that these things even lived near him. He had to share valuable air and real estate with this idiotic ********, and now they were going to be immortal!? Sure, he'd fought the Uberbear and conquered it, but he'd done that by getting between it and letting Abaddon destroy it for him. He guessed that that would be his strategy here, too. He was out of Light. He was out of AP. He was, basically, naked. Drinking a witch's brew, he stepped forward, putting himself between the creature and Rota.

Rota was beginning to finally exit when he saw the dust that was settling begin to flow to a point behind him and he felt his heart sink. He turned back around and saw a swirling vortex of dust amassing into a cloud in the center of the room. The cloud had gained enough dust to begin forming a vague shadow of a very BIG beetle while wisps of dust still curled and swirled around its body. most of the main beetle was hard for the most part, but the dust still caught enough air at times to show its true nature. It roared in self echo in pain, wrath, and despair at even being alive as tendrils of dust became scorpion like claws in front of it and its horn became pronged and barbed. Rota had no action for this very patient and angry Beetle, so he opted to drink one Witch's Brew. While he could feasibly take an explosion from this creature, he inferred that if he killed it fast enough it wouldn't explode. That would explain the seemingly gimmick-less rooms they had encountered on this long trek through hell. The witch said that it would make him stronger. it was time to see how strong.

Alyx felt the sweet, thick strawberry liquid flow down his throat, and his muscles were energized with a sugar high the likes of which those who were still alive could not imagine. Every fiber of his body twitched for a moment before he grew strong and solid as steel. He was going to survive this. They were going to survive this. He raised his shield, watching the monstrosity as it appeared to be gaining its bearings, unaccustomed to its existence as an eldritch horror in an otherwise sane world. He had to keep this thing off of Rota, no matter the cost. If he died, the game lost a decent tank. If Rota died, they lost the best blacksmith in the game. They could not afford that. Alyx might live on in memory, but Rota would forge --literally-- an army that could beat this game. All Alyx could do was protect the people that were important to the community. And he would. "Hear me, wretch! You are forbidden from this world! I banish thee to the darkest pits of hell! Face ye now the Wrath of the Gloomking, and perish!" Alyx banged his sword on his shield, fire in his eyes and steel in his bones.

Great Cut

Rota was feeling MUCH stronger than before. maybe he should use these more often! He saw Alyx knock back the beetle, and that was his opportunity to strike! His blade flared red as he stabbed out at the beetle as it was falling back. While this wasn't the most energy efficient, he needed to get good damage in quick before it was too late. He hoped that with this they would be able to annihilate this thing.

Alyx' blade drove the beetle back and heaved its massive bulk over on its back. He pushed the assault as the beetle was rendered helpless, charging a double strike and letting it loose, seeking to soften the monstrosity enough for Rota to finish it off. All things considered, this was going rather well. They had rendered it helpless, so no matter how strong it was, they had a chance here to level the playing field. Rota's attack hadn't moved the thing's health bar as far as it should have, though. But, if Alyx had to estimate, he would say that the monsters gained at least 50% each time they resurrected. That would put this beetle at least 220% stronger than a regular beetle, which might explain the disparity in health. With as little damage as Rota had done, though, it might be up to three or four times tougher, ignoring its combat ability. They couldn't afford to let this thing get any traction, or they might not be able to stop it.

It was flat on its back, but Rota sensed that it wouldn't be like that for much longer. it was time for an all or nothing play. If this worked they were safe, if not they would feel its might. He did not like these odds, but this was the hand that he was dealt. This was the best shot they had of killing this thing here and now. His blade flared black as he brought the tip down into the soft underbelly of the dusty beetle. the afterimage slammed the blade further into the ground as he roared in the face of this lode bearing insectoid horror. This needed to work. It HAD to work.

They thrust their blades into the gargantuan beetle and Alyx prepared for the worst. And it was a good thing that he prepared for it, because the worst is basically what happened. Alyx was lifted from the ground and flew away from the corpse as it was taken by the largest explosion yet. The Gloomking was completely defenseless against the force of the blast, as focused as he had been on his offense at the time of the detonation. He lay on his back and stared at the canopy of the woods above him, his breath shallow. At least it was over. There was no way that that thing could come back again. The odds were simply inconceivable. Alyx took solace in the fact that they were finally done with this room. He never wanted to see another beetle again for at least thirty seconds.

*BOOM* In all directions the dust that made up the Beetle became darts and bombarded the brothers in arms with its own weaponized body. Rota was lifted high into the air at a shallow angle due to the forces at work. When he did land it was flat on his stomach and gasping for air desperately. That was the hardest he had been hit in his career as a warrior. Struggling for composure, he propped himself to his feet and held his blade in front of him defiantly. This was a beetle hell bent on revenge. it was getting back up, he knew it in his soul. He wouldn't survive that encounter, but he knew it was coming. At least this time he would be prepared for it.

They went onward, allowing Rota the decision of their direction. We all know how that always turns out. Alyx looked into the clearing and observed their next opponent. Oh ******** the hell out of this bullshit. To say that this thing was not a beetle would be an understatement. This thing looked like a giant, monkey-footed cat had been wrapped in scrotal skin that had gotten caught in a roto-tiller. This ugly ******** looked like it had gone on the subway diet fifteen tons ago. This thing's neck looked like a v****a that had been run through a taffy puller. Whatever the hell this thing was, it had the weirdest combination of talons, rodent-like incisors as big as a man's head, sabreteeth longer than its incisors. It had so many teeth that it couldn't comfortably close its mouth, choosing instead to drool its fetid saliva down the sides of its face-vaginas, from which it flowed down its neck-vaginas to begin dripping from its chest. Following the steady dripping of the creature's internal reservoir of eau de halitosis, your eyes were drawn to the hands that this thing had. Massive, large as a man's chest, and tipped with curved talons as large as a grizzly bear's. Its front legs were half as long as its rear legs, which were also tipped with hands, and the whole disgusting thing was topped with a tail which one might recognize as a typical rodent's tail. That happened to be over ten feet long. Alyx was... He was just done with this. He could not stomach this thing. Literally, couldn't stomach it. ******** this thing right in its existence. ******** the orgy of vaginas and skin cancer that had congealed from the primordial ooze to form this cornucopia of whatever happens when you mix Freudian psychology and Salvador Dali's personal art collection. ******** this thing down to the lowest circle of Dante's hell, where it would be left alone because no one in hell even wants to be near this unholy monstrosity. Were he a religious man, he would put this thing on a leash and bring it on tours around the countryside, because the mere sight of this thing is enough to convert one to religion. Jesus Christ, this thing was made of so much 'nope' that it's bulbous eyes were angled in such a way that it couldn't even see its own putrid mouth. This thing had a face that not a mother could love, and a body that not even the creepiest drunk uncle could molest. If it came down to the end of the world, and Alyx had to choose between saving everyone on the planet or killing this thing, the human race would be extinct. If there was ever a time for God to personally come down and destroy an unholy creature, it was now. If the person who designed this ******** ends up in front of St. Peter, the gatekeeper is going to look at a picture of this thing, turn green, and silently shake his head as the man is granted immortality, because satan couldn't stand the god damned competition for most horrific imagination in hell. To be absolutely frank with you, this monster looked like a scrotum had sex with a v****a and somehow the unholy union that was begat them fell into a radioactive chemical vat of whatever slime made the Ninja Turtles and a collection of all of the garbage in a dentist's biohazard bucket. Alyx was so ******** done with this s**t. If Alyx could take a screenshot of this, he would, and he would use it as exhibit A if he was ever asked about whether he thought that the human race should be given a second chance when their highly evolved alien overlords come down to pass judgment on the Earth. He didn't even open his mouth, for fear of vomiting. This thing offended senses that Alyx wasn't even sure that he had had. He just pushed as much energy into his sword as possible and walked casually forward to end this things existence. It was the only possible option.

Rota entered the room and while his blade was shouldered it flared black upon sight of whatever the ******** he was looking at. No amount of words in his brain could dare describe the thing in front of him for fear that they would burn the image into his mind too vividly to be lost via lobotomy. This was a thing that needed to die so furiously that he wasn't entirely sure if it wasn't dead already and was propped up as a cruel joke on anyone who dared pass by this room. He didn't know if hitting this thing was even allowed by creature rights activists since one could argue sexual assault on some level or another. If there was evidence that there was a god in existence, this certainly did that proof no favors, for what benevolent being would allow such a heinous being to exist in what he assumed was writhing torment so fierce it looked as if it was merely breathing. Gods even THAT was unnatural, coming from a hellmouth so littered that it put rock grinders to shame at its efficiency. It was truly a sight to behold, watching this horror TRY to exist so. And by sight to behold, he of course meant a sight from which one not only could not UN-see, but one that one would never EVER WANT to see. Why was it always his lot in life to attract the most unforgettable nightmares existence could cobble together haphazardly to his doorstep? Why must it be that he would never drink enough bleach to wash his mind of these horrors? All he could do was kill it quickly, before it could reveal something even more horrifying than before. He brought his sword down, aiming for its neck where the skull meets the spine, and hoped that the aura that followed Neo Abyssian would put this nightmarish beast out of HIS misery.

Alyx and Rota combined their disgust into a righteous weapon, and murdered the chimera with all of the care and love of someone who was purging the land of a beast spawned from the coalesced nightmares of all the monsters in hell. Which, was sort of accurate, really. They killed it without it really doing anything but swiping one of its freakish hands at Alyx. And, while it had hit him with some small amount of force, it was nothing compared to the sheer mountain of pain that they dumped into it in response. But it was gone, and they could move on now. Alyx decided to just forget that this thing had ever haunted the realm, and to strike this entire encounter from his memory, if he ever had the chance to burn that image from his scarred retinas.
