(Me, too, once I finally decide exactly what's going to happen, haha. Also, happy 300th post!)

Esther's jaw dropped and her lips curled into a grin. "Oooh," she mused in a sing-song voice. "Burn." Although the image of C.T. standing bloodied and wounded before her was still fresh in Esther's mind--and, with it, the fear and anger she had felt--Esther was trying not to dwell on it and instead found humor in Mag's response. Honestly, Mag's reply couldn't have been any better. It conveyed some of the thoughts Esther had possessed earlier. She snaked an arm around C.T.'s waist and beamed almost wolfishly at her. "I hate to burst your bubble, baby, but I think this means I'm the dominant one now," she joked.

"I'll second that," Mag said, nodding, a sly smile on her own lips. Then she added mischievously, eyeing C.T. specifically, "Sure sounded that way early yesterday."

It took Esther much longer than it probably should have for her to realize what Mag was referring to. When it all finally clicked, she blushed and stared wide-eyed at Mag. "W-Wait, could you hear...?" Mag had to just be teasing them, right? She probably hadn't heard anything, right? Esther cleared her throat, frowned, and looked away, trying to appear strong and unphased--especially since she had just claimed dominance in the relationship. She couldn't fail at her new self-proclaimed role that quickly.

Mag chuckled triumphantly. "I'm gonna go set up the interview," she announced, her laughter subsiding. Then she waved and headed into an adjacent room to make the arrangements.

C.T glared at Esther when the girl spoke up teasing her. "Just exactly who's side are you on?" C.T demanded, not sounding entirely like she felt betrayed, but she let Esther know she was disappointed that Esther didn't have her back. She even had a few choice words loaded when Esther eased up to her and wrapped an arm around her, though Esther's statement stunned her just a bit. The girl was very quick in the wits department, C.T had to admit that.

Though no one beat Mag, as she caught Esther off guard with her comment, seeming to slow the girls processing out of nowhere and bringing a blush to Esther's face, and only deepened the glare on C.T's face. It was like everyone was against her. She wanted to ask again, where the C.T everyone respected ran off too, but she knew what answer to expect.

'She got shot.'

C.T let Mag leave, only nodding when the woman said she'd be setting up the meeting, C.T would worry about that when it came, she only wanted to talk with Esther now. She wanted to try and set a few things straight. "So do I get a chance to reassert my dominance?"

Esther realized much too late how seriously C.T. was taking this teasing. There certainly had been real implications to Mag's words, and Esther had "sided" with her because, well... Just because Esther had forgiven C.T. didn't mean she had forgotten how terrified and betrayed she had felt when she heard what C.T. had done and, later, when she saw C.T. bleeding profusely from her gut. But she hadn't meant to upset C.T.--she hadn't meant for C.T. to feel like Esther was betraying her; Esther would always be on her side, in her corner--and yet clearly that was what had happened. Esther's smile melted away and she stepped in front of C.T., taking both of the girl's hands.

"Sure, but you don't need it," she said, trying to convey the fact that C.T. was, obviously, the one wearing the metaphorical pants in this relationship, even though Esther didn't take those labels too seriously. Esther wanted to get to the root of what was upsetting her girlfriend. "Talk to me, Connie," she said gently.

Christ.

Even Esther could see right through her, nothing was working for her anymore. C.T tried to look away from Esther, to avoid the comfort for a moment, too try and be strong on her own, like she had been for all the years before she met Esther or Mag and the others. But everything was falling apart. Now she just wanted to answer Esther's question, to tell her what was wrong.

"I shouldn't have gotten shot," C.T said, and that wasn't her saying that she shouldn't have went to Jacob, it was her saying that it shouldn't have been able to happen. "The old me wouldn't have gotten shot, the old me would have killed Jacob back there, the old me wouldn't have been afraid." C.T said sounding frustrated with herself now. "I'm not used to this, all these feeling, all of this hesitation, I can't do anything now, without thinking about how it affects you, or how it will make you feel, and it's.... I don't know but I know it's making me weaker, somehow. Making me lose what used to make me strong." C.T said closing her eyes. "But even knowing this, I don't care. You're making me weak, and I don't care, you are replacing my instincts with these feelings and I don't care."

C.T turned away from Esther raising her hand and dropping it with a humph. "And now everything's coming together all at once, I know my family is out there somewhere, and now Mag wants me to do this interview, I don't know where to put all of these feelings. It's hard."

                  "You're making me weak..."

Esther felt her heart sink through her chest to the floor. Part of her loved that she had this effect on C.T.--that C.T. cared so much about her that Esther was a large factor in even her most important decisions. But Esther didn't want to be what made C.T. weak, even if C.T. said she "didn't care." Esther wanted to be what made C.T. strong. Wasn't that how relationships were supposed to work? Weren't the two people involved supposed to empower each other, be each other's rock? C.T. certainly made Esther strong. She made Esther want to be tough and resilient, and also let Esther know that she would be there to back her up if things ever went wrong. This wasn't to say C.T. didn't also make her weak; she made Esther irrational, determined to do anything if only it secured C.T.'s well-being. But yes, overall, C.T. made her strong.

When C.T. withdrew from her, Esther folded her arms across her chest. C.T.'s uncertainty was clearly upsetting her, making her frustrated, and Esther wished more than anything she could give C.T. the answers to these questions. "A whole hell of a lot has happened in a very short amount of time," she said. "It can shock anyone's systems. But only you can figure out how to adjust to this." She paused a moment, gaze drifting to the floor. "Maybe... maybe you need some time, y'know? Like, a break. To process everything in solitude for a little bit. Maybe you need some time away to figure out who you are in the wake of the events of the past few days." Esther wasn't sure exactly what she was suggesting, but what she did understand made sense. C.T.'s identity seemed to have been threatened through all of this, and maybe it was only by separating herself from everything, Esther included, that she could decide how to cope.

(Keep forgetting to say, Yay! 300th post! So... yay! 300th post!)

"I don't want to be alone." C.T said shaking her head. "I don't think I can ever go back to being alone." She added, admitting to yet another weakness.

"But you are right, I do need to figure out how to adjust to this, but I can't do that alone." C.T said, she took Esther hands back within hers and gave them a little bit of a squeeze using the warmth she felt there to sure up her resolve. "I don't think it's a bad thing, just confusing, but I know now that I can't live separately from you, I do stupid things when I'm alone it seems."

Like get shot

C.T rolled her eyes, at her own brain betrayal before sighing. "I think I figured something out." C.T said, sounding a little more sure of her self now. "I think, I'm subconsciously, trying to make myself appear more....human. For you."

(Well, midterms are the worst. Sorry for the long delay.)

C.T. was trying to make herself more human? Esther didn't know what to think about that. Blinking, she simply stared at C.T., uncertain of how to respond. Esther wasn't sure she had ever thought of C.T. as not human--not strictly speaking, anyway. "You don't have to be anything for me, C.T.," she said. "Only yourself."

(Well as long as you passed em <3)

"Be myself?" C.T said with a smile before she laughed, and kept laughing. It wasn't a taunting laughter, she wasn't making fun of Esther's advice, and she didn't really find it funny, she just had to laugh, she didn't know what else to do really, it was either she laugh or she cry. Though the latter might still happen anyway. "I don't even know who I am, heh." She laughed again, before taking a shaky breath, placing a hand over her face and hanging her head, hiding her features.

"I'm been forced to be someone my whole life, if it's not a slave, it's a leader, I don't know who I really am." C.T said, and there was a sniffle there that she tried to cover up but failed. Thinking about it drives me insane. But until I met you, I was just fighting for revenge, and now that I have you. I want to be different... I don't want to be someone you have to worry about." She refused to believe she was crying, and she refused to admit that she wanted a hug right now, something that she had grown to love the feeling of in her time with Esther. She didn't use to be this damn reliant.

(Still waiting on one, but so far, so good! ^^)

Esther could tell C.T. exactly who she thought the girl was. But what good would that do? C.T. needed to find out for herself. Both sensing the need for an embrace and feeling an urge to offer one, Esther pulled C.T. into her arms and hugged her tightly. "Something tells me I'm always going to worry about you, whether you're in iminent danger or not," Esther said, smiling a little. Esther cared too much about C.T. "As for you not knowing who you are, well... That'll be the goal of our trip, then. First we'll go see your hometown, but after that we'll go wherever you feel called to go--wherever you think a piece of you is waiting to be discovered. I will follow you anywhere and everywhere."

(Alrighty than!
Hmm Guess we should time skip again?)

C.T allowed herself too be consumed by the embrace, hiding her face in Esther's shoulder and inhaling deeply, trying to force down the lump in her throat as well as taken in Esther's scent. She let her tears stain Esther's shirt. "I'll just chalk the worry up to being a human thing, if you don't made." C.T tried to joke, but she had to pause to sniff hard to stop her nose from running

The trip was brought up again and C.T could only node, she would meet her parents, and something would change. She didn't know if it would be for the best or not, but something would change and she would learn something about herself. She couldn't put these feelings into words. But she felt that Esther knew, and by the smile she could hear in Esther's voice C.T knew that Esther was willing to help her through it, no matter how low C.T may get.

"I love you." C.T breathed into Esther's shoulder, her voice muffled somewhat. "I love you so much that it hurts, I don't know where I'd be without you." A sob wracked her body as C.T let go of the flood gates.

"Thank you."

Esther's heart clenched and she held C.T. even tighter. "There's nothing to thank me for," Esther said softly. "I've had no choice. You've completely captivated me, C.T. I couldn't stop loving you even if I wanted to."

                  --

A little over a week later, C.T., Mag, and Esther arrived at City Hall. Mag had managed to get C.T. that interview she had desparately wanted to arrange. The flurry of changes taking place within the government complicated the process a little, but it had happened. Finally. Mag beamed as she got out of the car, both ecstatic and nervous that their story would finally be heard.

Esther got out of the car and went to C.T.'s door to open it for her. "You ready?" she asked, smiling encouragingly. It felt weird to be here--honestly, it made her anxious. These settings were familiar, but now the memories associated with them seemed tainted. Esther wasn't sure she felt safe here, even though she was likely the safest of the three of them, considering her race.

"Of course she's ready," Mag interjected eagerly, clasping her hands together. "Now, like I said, they're not going to take a video of it or anything unless you're okay with that. Otherwise, from what I understand, it'll just be you and the interviewers, and what you tell them will be in the paper tomorrow."

C.T had never really ever been one to be intimidated, especially not by architecture, but looking up at the city hall building was a bit daunting. The building was busy, men and woman dressed in business attire hurrying in and out. C.T herself felt now horribly undressed in her jeans and boots, another leather jacket covering another black shirt from her seemingly endless supply of them, and mag was no better, wearing much the same as her boss, only with a jean jacket. Though she insisted that her contact said they come dressed casually soooo.....

"You ready?"

C.T opened her mouth to answer but Mag spoke up for her, her excitement getting the best of her it seemed. C.T shook her head at the woman rolling her eyes. Before listening to Mag go over the details again. C.T wasn't sure about letting them tape her yet. She thought it might be for the best but she didn't know if her nerves would hold.

"I'm ready." C.T said for both Mag and Esther to hear.
---

"What is your name."

"Which one." C.T asked the interviewer, she was sitting rather stiffly in the seat provided for her and was answering a few prep questions for the interviewer, just trying to break the ice, getting her "loose" as mag had said.

"Your real one."

"Connie, Connie Tereshchenko." The interviewer nodded.

"Ok Connie, I don't know your story and I don't know you, but I feel I know your type. You don't want to talk about this, but the less you say, the more I have to ask, and when that camera is on, it's going to look like I'm coaching you. So work with me, ok?"

C.T nodded, taking a deep breath.

"Do you want the camera on?" The interviewer asked, he seemed kind of hopeful like he wanted her too say yes, C.T didn't really know why, probably ratings.

"Will he see?" The 'he' was Bradley, out on bail and soon to serve trial, she didn't mind him being on the street for now, because she was doing all she could do change that now.

"He's a politician, of course he'll be watching."

"Turn it on."

"Ok good, our slot is on in 3, 2, 1.... Ok. Thank you Richard. We are here with Connie Tereshchenko, a survivor of the experiments conducted under the eye of Jacob Bradley, Connie tells us that Jacob practically owned her for years, Connie is that true."

Old habits die hard.

Connie gave a stiff nod, "Yes." The interviewer shook his head at her and she took a deep breath relaxing visibly. "I was his, he purchased me, had me groomed for him. And for years I was just his pet."

"What about your family?"

One low blow after another, this guy wasn't slowing down.

"I don't remember them, he took me away from them when I was very young. We found papers that suggest he tried to adopt me legally, but those papers weren't signed."

"Have you contacted your family?"

"I've only just found out that they are still alive, and so much has been happening, I couldn't just take off and go searching for them."

----

-- I didn't want to be the monster he thought me to be, so I didn't kill him, I wanted to prove to him that though I hated him more than anything, that I could still control myself."

"So you decided to out him too the world instead?"

"Yes, I could destroy him without killing him, it was the logical thing to do."

"I heard Bradley's daughter joined up with you."

"Yes she did, I wouldn't be here now if it weren't for her." C.T brightened at that noticeably, sitting up a bit straighter, her tone becoming lighter. "She was on our side from the beginning, she sought us out when she realized how corrupt her father was." Stretching the truth a bit, but she couldn't just flat out say that they had kidnapped the girl, "She helped us all, become stronger and more accepting, in such a short time, for a human, she was half bad. Guess you could that she is one of us."

"is? So she is still with you?"

C.T nodded "Always."

The interviewer nodded, jotting a note, and continued to ask C.T questions. They all became easier, until C.T almost forgot she was having an interview and it just felt like she was having a conversation.

-----

"OH! I'm soooooo proud!" Mag erupted as soon as the camera's and the mic's were cut, she wrapped C.T in the largest hugs she had ever had. "I knew you'd do well. I knew you would, I knew you-"

"Mag."

"Yea?"

"Can i go to my girlfriend?"

"Oh yea.... sorry."

C.T rolled her eyes and approached Esther, smiling timidly. "Hey, so how was I?"

Esther hadn't been thrilled with the interviewer's introduction for C.T. or the first questions he asked. He hadn't even tried to ease her into it; he just threw her into the pool, head first. Mag had actually had to hold her back as her frustration with the man grew. But eventually she realized he had skipped the formalities because had sensed C.T. wouldn't necessarily care for them. The fact that C.T. was able to relax helped--as her discomfort decreased, so did Esther's.

Esther had to admit, though, that the answers wore on her just as much as the questions. They had gone a week basking in the positive consequences that C.T.'s actions had brought, almost--almost--forgetting about the nitty-gritty details. Now Esther was reliving them again. She wondered briefly where her father was and what he thought. How would he react when he watched C.T.'s interview?

When C.T. came over to her, Esther grinned. "An interviewer's dream, that's how you were," she said, taking C.T.'s hand. "I'm in agreement with Mag--you did really well. Never lost your cool, always answered the question clearly and precisely... How do you feel?"

”Every interviewers dream? Now I know you’re just trying to stroke my ego a bit, not that I don’t appreciate it.” C.T said, taking an easy breath, she wasn’t sure how Esther would react to the interview, she knew the girl had been supportive before hand, however C.T had said a few things that were pretty heavy, and she had also altered some facts, and she hadn’t exactly known what was going to be asked so she couldn’t really let Esther know beforehand, she had honestly been afraid that Esther would finally be freaked out by her. But of course that wasn’t the case.

Now how she was feeling on the other hand was a completely different question. She didn’t know how she felt. She had been expecting to feel differently afterwards, but she didn’t. “I don’t know, I just feel the same. It’s kind of disappointing huh?” That's at least how C.T felt, she had basically just proved the innocence of her people to the world, yet for some reason, she didn't feel nearly as vindicated as she should. "Maybe it just hasn't hit me yet."
