"Yeah, it's true. But I might go out and get some flowers, or some pictures, or... other pretty crap. I dunno." She didn't particularly like flowers, but she figured that they would make her room feel more homey. Her parents had filled their home to the brim with the fragrant plants. A light breathing could be heard from Squirtle's shell. "No, he's not shy; he just can't nap when there's a lot of light, so he likes to go into his shell."

"Fair enough," Cody nodded. He started thinking about decorating his own room, but he didn't know exactly how long everyone was even going to be there. It's not like they were given any kind of job security. If at any point one member wasn't able to keep up, it would be the axe, so he decided not to get too comfortable until he knew what he was up against. "If you'd like some company, I'd be glad to get out and stretch my legs a little." He looked down to see Poochy rearranging his position in Cody's lap. "Napping, huh? Is he gonna sleep tonight?" the boy responded in regards to Abi's comment about Squirtle.

Abigail was surprised by his offer to go with her; she didn't even know if they'd be allowed to leave the base for something as frivolous as decor shopping. "Thanks, that'd be great. I haven't been to the Lilycove Department Store, but I'm sure we could find some things to spice up rooms there. Maybe we could go sometime!" She then glanced sideways at Squirtle. "Oh, he'll definitely be able to sleep. He may be a ball of energy during the day, but the minute he puts his head down for a second, he's asleep. It's very frightening, actually... I wish I could sleep that easily. It always takes me a good ten minutes to actually fall asleep."

"I don't think anyone would mind if we stepped out for a minute," Cody replied, pulling a pokeball for Poochy from his belt. Manuvering around the sleeping pokemon on his lap proved to be more difficult than he had originally anticipated, as his Poochyena slept like a rock. He looked down at the pokemon and laughed, commenting on his sleeping habits. "This guy will sleep the minute he gets comfortable, especially if he's on my lap. The funniest part is that you can practically drop him on his head and he won't wake up. Don't ask how I know that."

Abigail raised an eyebrow at Cody after his last comment. "Should I be calling the Pokemon Protection Service? Something tells me that you may or may not have dropped Poochyena on his head... Just a hunch." Squirtle decided to wake from his nap to pop his head out of his shell, looking around at the people surrounding for a moment. He then decided that there was nothing that particularly interested him, so he returned to his shell.

"In my defense, it was an accident," he joked, not sure if he was coming off the right way. "What's important is that he's all better now!" Cody ran his fingers through the fur on top of Poochy's head, forcing it to stick up momentarily before succumbing to the force of gravity and slowly returning to its natural state. "Anyway," he started, returning his Dark type to the pokeball he held in his hand. "Ready to go?" The boy stood up and headed for the door, expecting Abigail to follow. "They should still be open, right?"

Abigail stood up, a bit unsure of herself. "Uh... Yeah. As long as you're sure we're allowed to leave the base..." The last thing she wanted to do was upset Archie on her second day here. She hadn't even met him yet, and she was sure that getting in trouble would not be a wonderful first impression. She picked up Squirtle, who remained in his shell, and followed Cody.

The night air was brisk against Cody's face and forearms as he forced open the heavy steel door that separated the outside world from the secret base. He held the door open as he waited for Abigail to follow, and allowed it to slam behind them as she stepped through the threshold into the night. "So, tell me about yourself," he started, just trying to break the ice. He never was very good at it, but starting with a question certainly beat the polar bear joke. He used that one a little too often. The boy looked up at the night sky and got lost in the beauty of the stars as the duo strolled through the sand. He let his pokemon out one by one and watched them frolic happily along the beach. Axew especially loved playing in the shallow water, and Cody laughed as the baby dragon sprinted toward the dunes as the tiny waves broke along the shore. Sparks and Poochy walked toe in toe next to their trainer, occasionally at one another, up at him, back to one another, and over to Axew. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, which was certainly a change of pace from the stressful environment Archie had created over the past couple days.

Abigail walked stride for stride with the other, following suit and releasing her other pokemon as well. Ralts chose to walk alongside her, not straying too far off for fear of losing her trainer. Wingull flew just over the water, obviously enjoying his flight as he swooped through the air, riding the winds coming off of the ocean. Squirtle staid on Abigail's shoulder, which was his normal spot. "There's not much to tell, really. I haven't had a very exciting life." Abigail decided to omit the more "interesting" parts of her past for the moment; she didn't want to frighten her new teammate. "My favorite color is green. That's about all I know about myself. Alright, your turn."

"Green, huh?" Cody chuckled, looking over at Abigail in disbelief. "And yet you join a team who dresses in white, black, and blue? Maybe you really aren't in the right place," he teased, giving her a playful nudge with his elbow. "Since we're going one at a time, I'm from Fortree and one of my best friends is Winona. Well, she's more like family, but you get what I mean, right?" He thought back to his makeshift mother - the person who pretty much raised him from a toddler. She had taught him how to survive in their bug-infested treetop city and how to raise a pokemon. He had her picture in his wallet, and he would never forget the day he left home.

Abigail frowned a bit; her favorite color, in her mind, had no pertinence to whether she would fit in with the team. "That's neat. I've never been to Fortree, but I have some friends that have lived there. They say that it's beautiful. Like I said before, I'm from Hearthome. I guess a fun fact about me is that Squirtle and I compete in Pokemon Contests frequently. Or, at least, we did before we left. My parents wanted me to be a professional Coordinator." Squirtle, hearing his name mentioned, craned his neck forward and nodded in agreement with Abigail.

Cody noticed her frown as he joked with her. "Buck up, camper," he smiled. "You'll do fine. I'm sure." He was surprised to hear that she had been a coordinator, but hearing that she was from Hearthome, it surprised him a little less. Cody had heard a lot about the city and, being a lover of flashy performances, had always wanted to take a visit. Maybe one day. "So, riddle me this," he started. "You say you were a coordinator 'back in the day', however you admit to needing a little bit of work with Squirtle in obedience. How did that work out?"

Abigail couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "Yeah... Have you ever heard of celebrities being kind of grumpy and thinking they know everything off-set?" She pointed to Squirtle. "He's the perfect example of that. Kids loved him in his shows, and after awhile his head just got a little too full of hot air. But he's getting better, right rascal?" Squirtle simply responded by blowing air out of his nose angrily. "What about you? Did you battle a lot before joining?"

Cody chuckled at her response. "I can certainly see that," he said, playfully sticking his tongue out at the turtle pokemon. Upon hearing her question, though, he had to look away. Painful memories of the Team Rocket raid on his hometown flooded his mind. All of his pokemon and the majority of his belongings were swept away right before his eyes. "I started learning a little about battling when I was younger, but mainly borrowed others' pokemon to practice with," he lied. "Being young and using pokemon who didn't respect me as a trainer at all; you can probably guess how well that went, but I powered through and ended up here. All in all, though, I'm pretty decent. What about you?"

Abigail nodded her head in understanding. "I can see how that would be tough." Squirtle stuck his tongue out in return grumpily. "Me? Well, my parents didn't want me pokemon battling. They thought I'd get hurt, or something. So Squirtle and I haven't done much in the way of pokemon battle." That didn't stop me from fighting, though. Memories of her days in the underground fighting ring flashed back to her, but she didn't mention them. Quickly she glanced down at her watch, realizing the time. "Oh, no... I have to be somewhere early tomorrow, so I think I'm going to head back. Sorry that we didn't get to go shopping!" She returned Wingull and Ralts to their poke balls, then took Squirtle in her arms as she turned around back towards base. "Thanks for walking with me!" She called to him as she started running back.
