Wow.

Serafina was stunned by the sensation of fresh FEAR. Maybe it didn't help her poor companion too much, but it ... certainly helped her out, eyes dancing as she basked in it. She was ... rather confused by the fact they were all cheering, but hey, she was okay with that. If the humans liked being scared, even better! It made them, perhaps, more likely to give off FEAR if they enjoyed it so much.

The clapping from Serafina was definitely a bit more enthused than Ruth's was, though that stopped quickly when Ruth decided it was time to invade her personal space. She had ... offered to support the other ghoul, but having the other ghoul in her space so ... closely rather shocked her.

Well, she had offered, and Ruth didn't seem like a bad ghoul. And besides, it wasn't like she needed the mask at the moment. There was nothing to worry about there. Right.

She settled as she walked, surprised her former examiner looked nothing but cheery at the moment. She was even more surprised that Ruth suddenly yanked her arm up in the air. With wide eyes, she glanced from where her arm once was to where it suddenly was in the air. Well. She guessed she was volunteering then.

But hey! She was curious and she had to admit, she did wonder how this scaring humans thing worked. She was a ghost, after all. It was her job to terrify people. And plus, it seemed rather fun, actually. And that sensation of fresh FEAR wasn't particularly one she was used to. It was hard not to like it. Maybe she could get some for herself? That could be interesting. And if she did it right, she would impress a professor! That was an even bigger bonus. Nothing like getting on a professor's good side...

"I volunteer to make the attempt with Ruth and Brenley."

Serafina says WHY THE JACK NOT?

The teacher scanned the students, a small flicker in his eyes as some volunteered.

Ruth was given a look of exasperation, Serafina and Brenley looks of wondering just why they were letting another student drape over them like that had they no drive, no passion? Humph. Run together, might as well have frolic in some fields.

Andrew was the recipient of a cold look, Maple one of mild disappointment. No fire, no spark, no drive.

Marosa a shake of his head. To volunteer then have no idea what he was doing, to back out and put himself down...Rengath wasn't in the mood for his usual teaching method. Etzer however received a look of interest. That look vanished as Simply made her way over. There was enthusiasm then there was... enthusiasm.

Nahm's offer was intriguing, but the teacher couldn't just see a smile causing more than mild discomfort. After all, this wasn't exactly a dark cave.. and one on one wasn't the goal.

Junko got the same reaction as Simply, only with a margin of more consideration. West was given perhaps the most honest look of thanks. Then scrutiny. Because wasn't that Rage's pupil? How about no.

Picking those from the crowd, Rengath pulled them aside and whispered some basic instructions to them, a small pumpkin pill passed to them. Instructions given, he turned back to the crowd.
"Now, let's see what they come up with."

Maple jumped a little when the hand found her shoulder, still in a state of shock and unexpecting. Her brown eyes grew a little wider and she turned to find Marosa attached to it. Somehow, her eyes got wider and she felt her cheeks get red. "Th-thank y-you," she whispered to him. Then realized what little clothing he had on. Uh.

And then she noticed the look Rengath had given her. Mild for sure, but that disappointment was there and she sank into herself a little.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Olivia had been watching the jousting tournament go forth without a clue on what to do. No one had approached them to explain or even place a bet, perhaps they didn't look as clueless as they really were to receive some aid. Still, it was interesting to watch and the ghoul frowned slightly having to miss the rest of it as they were called by their instructor.

She walked with the others and gave Molan a little smile when he told her his previous activity. Candles weren't something she was particularly fond of, given what was needed to make them work. Still, there were some very pretty ones that didn't always need to be lit.

But then her attentions were turned to the story and her blue eyes were wide with wonder as she watched the story of a battle, and something about a princess or.. something, but a battle. She could feel the FEAR in the air, tingling around them as it had when they watched the movie and she smiled and was a little curious how the humans could be frightened of such a story because she found it terribly exciting even if she didn't understand it fully.

But as the sweet sensation of FEAR ebbed, so did the tale and they were pulled together as a group once more. Olivia found herself interested in the prospect of scaring but didn't voice it, leaving herself with the others in curiosity. She'd watch to see how the others did.

As Rengath chose her she gasped and clapped her hands together, listening intently to his instructions. Right, right..o..

O..kay...

Her smile fell a little. This was going to be difficult, Junko wasn't exactly the most intimidating monster at first glance. This was going to take creativity, a lot of it...did she have that kind of time? She took the pumpkin pill with a small frown. What could she do? She looked around the immediate area for some kind of inspiration. How could she..

Hm. Well, there was that one time..and the humans couldn't see her at all and she'd done well. But it would take some rule breaking..could she do that? Could Junko break a professor's rules? The thought was both exciting and worrying, the fact that she was even considering it had her slightly concerned. She never would have had thoughts like this before. Maybe she should embrace it and give it a try.

What could go wrong?

Junko popped the pill in her mouth and swallowed, taking her cloak off and removing the pin that kept it fastened as well. Here goes nothing. She would try not to break any rules, she would really, really try.

Despite knowing she couldn't be seen the ghoul crept quietly through the crowds anyway in search of her best target. She wasn't as intimidating as West, and she didn't have the signature horns of a demon like that other boil did, but..humans were scared of big things, right? Her hair seemed to be moving again thanks to the pill and the fear from earlier. That could help.

...Scarelings. Scarelings counted, right? There were even a few adults around! So it would be fine!

Junko stopped behind a group of scarelings watching a puppet show, humming thoughtfully to herself. Ah! She knew what to do!

She moved behind the puppet booth and found a boil and a ghoul controlling the hand puppets. Junko came up behind them and giggled in their ears. The ghoul blinked and looked around, finding no other women nearby. Did one of the kids..? No, apparently not. She shrugged and got back to work. Junko smiled and leaned in close, blowing cool air against the boil's neck. He shivered and swatted behind him. "Stop that, Jamie," he hissed quietly so the kids wouldn't hear. Jamie frowned.

"Stop what?"

Junko did it again while they were both looking at each other. "What the hell.."

She shook the little 'puppet theater'. That got the puppeteers' attention. They quickly stood and looked around the booth, the kids were sitting a good distance away and were waiting expectantly for the show to continue. Junko shook the booth again and it came apart.

Oh, shoot! She gasped, her hands flying to her mouth to stop herself from instinctively apologizing. She had not meant for that to happen! She just wanted to shake it to get their attention so she could scare them! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I am soooo sorry! She chanted it in her head so as not to say it to the humans. But hey, she had their attention now. The scarelings had all cried out and moved back away from the crumbling booth and the puppeteers had jumped back away from it, surprise and confusion seen clearly on their faces. This was a good start! She raised her hair, using a few sections of it to give the illusion of a head of hair that was made to look like hands and serpents with huge teeth. Humans feared what was bigger than them and things with 'too much' of something, right? Perfect.

She positioned herself in front of the children in that moment they were backing away from the collapsed booth and still vulnerable, and she allowed herself to be seen. She shouted, her hair reaching for the children but never touching them. They shrieked and ran, scrambling to their feet and tripping over each other. Their terror startled the parents surrounding them whose attention had been drawn back to them when the puppet booth collapsed, and the sudden appearance and disappearance of a huge monstrous young lady with extra limbs had them fleeing as well. They shouted about ghosts as they followed closely behind their children.

Junko pouted. "I'm not a ghost." Not cool. Not cool. She heard shouts of demons not far off. At least they got West's race right.

She returned to the group with a little giggle. Even if they had called her a ghost that had been pretty fun.

Oh-! I'see... The ghoul winced when West poked at one of her new sideways ears. They just didn't move right. However, Levi was relieved that the voices she heard were being heard through some sort of functional ears.

With that issue out of the way, the tatzel turned to the voice of a red-headed girl approaching. There was a moment of pause, but she realized it could only have been Sibyl with that quality of skip in her step. Sibyl! Hovering over the petit ghoul, Levi's arms came around, folding her hands in front of Sibyl in a sort of protective embrace. They were in the human world now; it was important to stick together and recognize who the real humans were versus her peers. The embrace? Well, Levi always did have a weakness for doting on petit ghouls like young scarlings back home; Xiu and Lizzy were fine examples of this. Could be a sniffin' thing, yeah. 'nless they got some sorta mind readin' But I don't reckon so if them others ain't never dun'it. The tatzel hadn't seen any evidence of telepathic ability used previously in human encounters but that didn't completely convince her it was impossible.

Lookit this hair'a yers... Curling a strand of human!Sibyl's hair around her index finger, Levi chuckled. It had a funny cotton candy-like quality to it but with a shiny reddish finish. Hope I don't loose ya in'it. Yew keep close now, ya hear?

When their Professor chimed in with a certain task, Levi continued to hold onto Sibyl, about to volunteer herself, when West did so at the same time. Clearly his voice rang out more profoundly as the wrath demon was selected. Glancing at her boilfriend, mirroring what was surely a smug face on West, Levi offered a few kind words of encouragement. Better see some knickers scared off, boil.

Before he could properly reply, West was pulled aside after a measuring look from Rengath. He held tight to the pumpkin pill he was handed, nodding in acknowledgement of the other demon's instructions before he smirked at the tatzel and slipped into the crowd.

First thing's first. Find a group to scare. He passed a couple of drunk guys wearing similar getups to his own, several busty wenches that he totally didn't look at for more than a second, he swears, and more willowy elves than would fit inside a catbus. Finally, he saw them: a quartet of comfortably dressed humans holding instruments. They were well away from the others for now, winding their way into a maze of tall carriages that were parked under some trees at the edge of the fair. Darkness? Check. Seclusion? Check. Potential for mass hysteria? Well, he wasn't so sure about that, but he hoped things would go as planned.

West watched them walk, quickly choosing a carriage to climb that he anticipated would eventually be right in their path. He pulled off his leafy pin, grinning down at his forearms as familiar scars and stubby, ragged nails returned. West knew he wasn't visible to anyone but his classmates now, a fact that was normally a little irritating but was actually quite helpful at the moment. The humans softly plucked and strummed their old timey lutes, the sounds they made just loud enough to cover the scuffling of his shoes against wood. The boil left behind the cloak and pin and crawled across the roof once he got there, leaning over the other side and peering down into the chasm below. The humans were on their way.

When they passed below him, West began to hum along with their song as softly as he could. He tried to sound creepy. It really helped that he was pretty damn tone-deaf and didn't know the melody of their song anyway. His eerie, flat counterpoint floated through the air, freezing the lead musician in his tracks. West stopped humming.

"Kenny, what's that?"

"I dunno, man. Probably just a dog."

A dog? Not good enough.

They continued walking, more speedily this time, and once they were completely past him, West jumped down behind the last member of their group, blowing a warm stream of breath past his ear.

"KIMBERLEEEEEEE! DON'T DO THAAAT!"

"What'd I do?! I didn't even turn around! Stop whining!"

West darted away from their flailing limbs, flattening himself against the carriage. All right. He knew it wouldn't be long before they kept moving. It was now or never. He dropped the pumpkin pill into his mouth and swallowed, unable to keep the grin off of his face as he felt himself gain tangibility. It was an odd sensation, to say the least. He began to hum again, dragging his knuckles across the creaking planks beside him.

"Uh... Seth? K... Kenny?"

The last human turned, his face lit by the heightened glow of West's eyes.

"s**t! RUN!"

The first young man spun on his heel. "Kimberly's right, man, just shu—"

West suddenly wished he'd brought his eyePhone. The human's expression shifted from annoyance to terror in the space of a heartbeat, and he practically climbed over the others to get out of the narrow space. The boil followed them into the open, ducking close to a handful of happily painting children and shouting at them right before the pill wore off and he disappeared completely. His first four human pals were now at the center of a group of nerdy-looking phony royals, and as they turned to look back at the carriages, West grabbed one of the weeping kids' brushes and scrawled a message on the side of the nearest one.

User Image

As he hurried back to his cloak and pin, he couldn't help but smile as the humans began to shout.

"DEMON! DEMON IN THE CARTS!"

Hey, they'd even gotten his faction right.

Listening intently to the professor's instructions, Etzer all out grinned as he brushed imaginary dirt from his cloak, nodding as he clasped the pill in his palm.

This would prove challenging indeed.

Which CYOA book had it been that this particular situation had been in...? Ah, that's right. Terror of the Pit Fiends Pet Human. Though it had been a strange title, it was still a fun read.

Of course, he'd say that about any book in that series.

Finding a decent location where he could hardly be seen by anyone, Etzer stripped off the cloak and glanced around curiously for who his targets would be. He hadn't interacted much after the weapons fiasco, finding it boring (as well as throwing an inner tantrum at not knowing how to use a bow, damn Reapers), but he soon found the guy who'd run the particular booth sitting at a campfire with a good deal of other people.

He looked to be telling a story. A dull, boring, run of the mill story. Most of them actually looked like they were about to fall asleep.

Perhaps he could spice things up.

Ingesting the pill with ease, the frost demon curled his fingers just so, making sure his hair was parted so his horns could be seen, before jolting out from the woods with a feral expression on his face. Etzer let out a noise, also putting in his own flair on things.

"RAAAAAAAAAUGGGGGGGH! YOUR SOUUULSSSS!"

The crowd was stunned, most of them sleepy as they glanced up and jerked up, petrified. It took them a moment as they realized that the demon was coming closer, and they couldn't get up fast enough to move out of the way of the oncoming force that was a 'feral thing'.

It had blue skin for crying out loud.

Hearing their screams and cries of 'demon' and 'blue skinned devil', Etzer had to smile, though chuffed at the last one. Devil? Really now?

Stopping and admiring the empty campfire, Etzer jogged back and retrieved his cloak, sliding it back on and walking back over to join his brother, nodding his head at him with a grin.

"Sup." Yep, Etzer was full of it.

All three students got looks. Long, hard looks of judgement.

Clapping his hands together, you can hear a 'Oh well time to go' before Rengath is ushering to the safety of the woods... and towards the portal back to halloween.

As you arrived at the portal, the king of elves and narrator were waiting nearby, the woman smiling, almost giddy, the man sour and uncomfortable. “Are these the little ones? They look adorable Renny!” Your professor visibly winced at the nick-name. The King of elves backed away just a hair. “Not really…” You heard him mutter.

My student has an acute sense of smell.
You can smell FEAR just barely radiating from the man

“Class this is Lady Altes and Mr. Willams. Both with skills that allow… certain aspects of our mutual love flourish for a decent profit.” The Lady Altes spoke up. “Not all who fill the silver screens need to be… human as you know.” You could see something rippling under her skin, though you can’t tell what. Williams just glared at Rengath.

“Mr. Williams is an old contract of mine, and calls on me every so often to help his performances. Altes is also a contract of mine and mutually, Mr. Williams. If you have yet to guess. Mr. Williams can indeed, see us for what we truly are. He uses his ability to find and contact us from Halloween and forms contracts with us for certain performances to we might harvest FEAR while he creates a decent revenue from the show. Today’s show was just that.” Williams looked mildly annoyed, and if Rengath’s words mean anything to him, all they seemed to do is agitate him.

“This is an example of how we demons, or just other halloweeners like Lady Altes here-“
“I’m a sub class of monstrous succubus!” She cheerfully exclaimed.
“-yes thank you for that input-“
“You’re welcome!”
“…moving on. Today was an example of how we might use the creation of humans, such as the story Mr. Williams wrote to our advantage. How our skills in illusions might aid a performance and fuel the FEAR. We fill our contract agreements and get FEAR, while he creates a profit from the show. Not all of these things use contracts, but, they help. Today’s story fit a setting, it was live. It was a true test of skill, and even if it might have looked ‘bad’ to you, think of what it did. It generated FEAR. Enough to cause a few to panic. To make mothers pull their children away. On film things can be adjusted. Live it cannot. Now-“ He motioned to the portal.

“As we’re done, thank Mr. Williams for hosting us and let us go back to Halloween.”
“No thanks for me Renny?” The professor winced once more, saying nothing. Willams just stands, looking uncomfortable and annoyed.
The OOC
BACK HOME! You can briefly ask Altes or Williams a few questions maybe, but hurry, Rengath is still on the human world side of the portal and is ushering you through. If you have an contraband...it might be good to ask your professor if you can keep it...

Poke had decided to play the spectator at this point, more interested in observing from the back then participating herself. The play though was a rather interesting story indeed, one she felt had been told before. Wasn't it similar to how the origins of halloween come about?

She appeared very intrigued at the battle that played out on stage, watching intensely how the men fought the 'elves'. She wasn't concerned though, not at all convinced that a play would result in actual carnage. Though some of the other humans were fooled, and she felt the energizing feel of FEAR throughout the area.

It was then that once the play was done, they were offered the chance to actually scare the humans. Poke was of course tempted. But then she was sure that anything she would do would involve the exact opposite of 'subtle', so she decided to watch how everyone else did it.

Which was pretty dam funny. The dragoness grinned as she saw the humans scatter from one of the demon's performance. Nice, perhaps she should of taken notes.

Though the fun was over all too quickly, and she followed the rest of them back to halloween. She also took the time to discard the soap she'd made earlier, as she wasn't about to try smuggle something like that through. The coins, however, she was keeping. No jakcing way she was giving those up.

Nahm folded his hands into his sleeves, still a little irritated that he'd been refused a chance to scare. There was no comparing any other food with fresh Fear, and the fleeting brushes he'd had with doing his own scaring had made him hungry for more. Nevertheless, he wasn't going to directly defy a teacher.

He circled over to the side and stared at Williams, saying nothing. Humans who could perceive Halloweeners clearly and who worked together with them. That was fascinating.

When most of the rest of the class had gone back through the portal, Nahm finally stopped staring and slipped back through. He hadn't bought anything, but he was keeping the coin he'd gotten from archery; he hadn't forgotten it, but he wasn't about to mention it.

Sin had been intrigued by the performance, but now that it was over and Rengath was explaining everything she wished it had lasted longer that the moment of fear had been drawn out. She cringed when she heard the professor's nickname and then shook her head, oh Jack how could she ever look at Professor Rengath seriously knowing his friends called him…Renny?

She moved away wishing she'd volunteered to help cause a little fear among the humans, but a part of her was still insecure. What if she fizzled and couldn't frighten them? She was almost certain that while she could manage to be alluring in the last instant when desire had to become terror she might not be able to take a human to the side of fear. She blinked at Rengath's explanation and then eyed Mr. Williams much more curiously, an old contract?

Then she smiled at Lady Altes, a sub class but still enough succubus blood in her and a stunning enough performance for Sin not to react with instant prejudice. She really was trying to keep a firm lid on that.

She walked over to the group and smiled. "Thank you so much Mr. Williams, and thank you Lady Altes for such an enlightening performance." She gave a quick little dip and then turned to the Professor.

"Professor Rengath I acquired this, I hope it's safe to take it back through the portal?" She held up the stuffed dragon, a seam near it's tail was already coming undone and it trailed little tufts of cheap stuffing.

Rengath looked at the small toy picking it up and tilting it around. "Should be fine."

The portal back is fast, and oddly, dropped you right onto center stage of the theater. The last to enter was Rengath, who quickly striped off the pin and cloak. You also noticed that your pin and cloak no longer have any effect on you. “Please put the pins and cloaks in the basket over there. Now, as you might have noticed, humans cling to the past. They also will cling to what they know. Despite the festival we went to being about living in the past, did you know they would arrive in modern day vehicles? That they buy their protects en masse from large companies? Despite what they might claim, humans are creatures of comfort, and the less work they can do the better. Lazy. So when they do these little past reenactments really, its to make themselves feel good.”

Rengath obviously had a high opinion of them.

“Today, we walked among the humans like we were one of their own. This is something many can do with proper training and age. To join them, hide in plain sight only to eventually come out and scare them as was shown. Today we used special boogie grade cloaking supplies- these being the basics with just one time use, -but if you follow the path of a FEAR harvester, you’ll take courses on how to do this sort of thing using your natural FEAR born abilities.” Going over to the table-

It was covered in DETH propaganda again.
All which he burned to ash again.
“How do they keep getting in…” He muttered. Shaking his head, he tapped the table once, twice- A stack of papers were one the table.

“Fill out one of these forms and drop it off with what you might have brought back with you. It’s unlikely you’ll have things taken and not returned, but we must follow procedure. Failure to do so will have nasty little consequences. Fill it out, and set your items on top of the form at the edge of the stage. Once we get through them all they will be delivered to your dorm.” The sudden sound of his cane hitting the ground- where did he get that-
“Homework is a 400 word minimum report on what you saw and did today, and a reflection on how it might affect your career of choice. If it didn’t I would think harder. That should be all…” A tap of his finger to the cane and he shrugged. “No, can’t think of anything more. That will be all for today.”

You get the feeling he was supposed to hand out DETH pamphlets but… well so much for that.

After dropping back in the theater, Poke stood idly by and waited for the professor to dismiss them. Though when it came to having to hand over her coins to them for 'inspection', the dragoness narrowed her eyes with displeasure. While he may say it was 'highly unlikely' she wouldn't get them back, she wouldn't put it past the professor to keep the coins anyway.

Still, she wasn't about to start a ruckus over a few coins, so she gave them back with a scowl before she was on her way.

After his little chat with Junko, Seiji hadn't been in much of a good mood, so when their teacher called for them all to return to school he was only too eager. Having not visited any booths, he still had all his coins left, so he included them in the form he filed out and dropped as they returned to the theater.

Likewise, Hadiyya had been too preoccupied to spend her coins. instead she had found a group of humans who had looked very similar to herself in her disguise. There had been a man paying a drum, and everyone had been dancing. Blue could she have possibly refused the invitation to join them?
