Iorlas just shook her head. "I'm afraid I simply can't understand it," she murmured. "But ... that may be because of my past."

There was little that had interested her enough to distract her from everything else.

"I think it also has to do with his ability to remember everything," Miyuki admitted, "It must be boring to him, to get things so quickly after hearing or reading it only once. He doesn't just have the memory, but he also can do something with what he remembers so easily, so there's not a lot of challenge for him."

Miyuki knew a lot about staff, she knew plenty of theory about how to fight blind, but it didn't mean she could do it. The hardest subject she ever had to learn (staff work) had taught her knowing and doing were two different things, but Shiro and Kaito always seemed to be able to do both.

"You'd think if he remembered things so easily, he wouldn't try to learn so much so quickly," Daeron quipped. "If he slowed down, he won't know so much so quickly. He's going to end up bored eventually, he shouldn't need to speed that up."

He may have years of learning still ahead of him, but if he was immortal - which to be honest Daeron didn't know one way or the other, though he had noticed that Shiro had not changed in many years - then he was eventually going to run out of things to learn. Why rush it?

"That's why he works," Miyuki replied, "It's not all research, it's.... I don't know how to explain it, because it has to do with Gaian stuff, but in short. Shiro writes things for other people, you can't tell he's doing it, because it's always on his tablet, but he writes things that make certain stuff in Gaia work."

She nodded as if she was agreeing with herself, she had never actually seen any of Shrio's own personal research and didn't even know what he was working on in that field.

"That's how he keeps himself from being bored, he teaches Andarien, or writes things for other people. During sailing he's going to transcribe a book."

"Ah, so he's not always reading," Daeron grinned. "Still, he shouldn't always be using that thing. He needs to spend more time with people."

A light appeared in Iorlas's eyes, and she grabbed Daeron's arm excitedly. "We should take him to the old city. I'm sure he would like that, and it would take him away from his tablet for a while!"

Daeron laughed. "Now that is a thought," he grinned. "We've got the time for it. The others won't be arriving for a few weeks yet. We could even make an overnight trip of it. I've always been curious to see it."

Miyuki giggled at that, "He would like that..."

She had heard of the old city but never been there.

"What is it like, no one has thought about rebuilding it?"

The fact a city had been built out there suggested it was a good spot in the desert (though she didn't know why). So she would have thought someone would have suggested to rebuild the city eventually.

The Eevee began to nibble lightly on Miyuki's fingers as the last of the fruit was gone.

"All done huh? I guess that's it until dinner," she told it.

Daeron leaned over to pick up the plate that the Eevee had been eating from. "Then I guess we're good to go," he grinned. "Anywhere you'd like to go, anything you'd like to see before we head back to the castle?"

Iorlas stood and brushed off the back of her skirt - more from habit rather than the fact that it was dirty. After all the chairs were quite clean.

"Jeweler's," she reminded them.

"Right," Miyuki nodded, "We'll head there first before heading back to the castle then."

She did like peeking in there every once in a while.

"Have you been there since you came back to Arda?" Daeron asked as he cleaned up the table. "I seem to recall Earendil saying that your family used to make a point of visiting Aranhil every time you were in the city."

Iorlas looked curiously at the others. "You're friends with the jeweler?" she asked curiously.

"No, not yet, but we haven't taken a visit around the city together yet," Miyuki admitted.

Though she had a feeling it was due part of getting prepared for the trip and probably because it was both Andarien's and her ada's first time adjusting to the time difference between worlds.

"To be fair, you and Andarien have spent most of your days in lessons," Daeron pointed out. "Though I have the strangest feeling that Shiro is training Andarien to be like himself - always working. I don't think I've seen anyone spend that much time in a study working since ... well, I can't think of anyone who's spent that much time in a study working other than Lancaeriel."

"But Lancaeriel has a reason to work that hard," Iorlas smiled. "She's trying to get some sort of research done before we leave. It's the first time she's had access to the books in the Southland library and she wants to make the most of it."

Miyuki shrugged, "I don't think it takes much. Shiro is the only person besides Kaito..."

Well she was pretty sure whatever Shiro knew, Kaito knew as well, but that was mainly hearsay.

"Who knows a lot about clockwork, and Andarien likes that sort of thing."

Daeron chuckled. "So I hear. Come on, let's get going."

He took Iorlas's hand and led them back out of the dining room, through the kitchen, and through the main dining room to the outside door, waving a farewell to his great-grandparents on the way out.

Miyuki also waved goodbye and the Eevee gave a few eeps as well as they walked out of the inn.

It felt good to be out again, with all the sun and warmth.

Once out in the sun, Iorlas turned her face to the sky and closed her eyes, smiling warmly. She loved the sun, an instinctive reaction leftover from her life as a dragon.

Daeron chuckled softly. "Come on, you two. There's plenty of sun to go around."

He turned his eyes to the sky, and his brow furrowed slightly. "Is it my imagination, or are those clouds on the horizon?" he asked, pointing off towards the south.

As he'd said, there were some small but dark clouds off in the distance. They weren't the brown of a sandstorm, but the rare gray clouds of rain. He doubted it would reach the city, though.
