He took no notice of anything other than the swarms, Gale pushing himself through the swarms of insects and firing off as many shots as he could get. Around him he could hear nothing but the buzzing, frantic and angry in his ears, and it was difficult to see anything else but right in front of him.
Don't think about it.
There were several sharp bangs from the rifle as he fired off more shots, more and more until he could feel the gun beginning to grow cold in his hands. The insects twisted and curled around him, and he could feel his neck an and face was scratched and bleeding, but all Gale could think of was firing.
Just keep going. Keep moving forward.
Don't stagnate here.

Other voices were lifting in prayer now; Jordan could hear Jerry speaking in a language he assumed was Hebrew, fragments of other voices in their own prayers. For Julie, gone now. That was - that was good. Whether or not anything was listening, anything that supported the hunters fighting this awful battle was good.
He could feel Ferros straining to keep them shielded, hissing impatient anger. When he struck again, crushing another cluster of insects, the things swirled and shot back at him, numerous stings biting into his defenses, breaking them, and he could feel the moment when the shield went down and bright spots of blood started blooming from each tiny injury.

She was back on her feet, fighting. That was the Cass he knew. That was the woman he'd seen fighting before. While he didn't block a majority of the swarm, he got some, which was better than none as they flared up with each one they cut down. Julie's body was being used and they couldn't let that go on. It was wrong and she.. she deserved better than that. "I'll try to keep them off of you okay?" Re adjusting his grip, Marcus looked at his girlfriend. They could do this. He could do this. No distractions. No- "Dakota!" Crap- the guy was close to getting mauled. "Move to defend the others, it's getting worse!" It was getting exponentially worse. Looking back at Cass, he nodded. "We can do this Cass." Defending Cass for : 5

Clerise glanced around, breath hitching, trying not to recall the external mission that had earned her an even slice on her neck.
It was mostly a scar, now, but the nightmares of insects wrapped in the gauze of noiselessness were a constant.
Clerise was useless, here, against the swarms. But she had some ******** bandages, goddamnit.
Her eyes slid to Jordan's ailing form, jumping at him.
"Hold still, professor," she muttered, working efficiently to apply them.

In 1969, Kübler-Ross wrote a book called On Death and Dying, highlighting what is commonly known as the five stages of grief. She wrote very clearly that these stages were not meant to be either complete nor chronological. She wrote as equally clearly that these applied to catastrophic loss.
Denial. The body did not belong to Julie, this wasn't Julie anyway, this was just some horrific character that looked and talked like her, and Justin was not stuck in some horrifying flashback of everything that happened wrong.
Telling his grief-stricken mother several years back that Julie would come back. The searching, the phone calls, the waiting. Always waiting, every day, minute, second, waiting and wondering why-
Anger - Why she would do this to him. To her family. Why she would just leave them here, and how this was by any means okay. Why he kept on slipping up in every game he played, why even the best gear in game simply did not matter, why it annoyed him to even see anyone talk about in-game death to the point where he would push his chair backwards, stair at the screen vision blotted with white, just whites as he sat back and breathed and stood up angrily away from the computer-
Bargaining - to head back downstairs again. Waiting for her to come back. Julie wouldn't go far anyway, she wasn't that type of person. She never had a love interest, she was invested in their small niche of a family as he was and she would never in her right might make them worry so much. She wasn't dead, they had never found the body. She was simply lost, she had simply found something and-
Depression - she had not told any of them. She wasn't even contacting them. Was it his mother's fault or was it because he had not tried hard enough. Was it his fault really that he just could not stand reality any more, every second, every moment waiting was agonizing pain, hollow and empty, filled with only a shell, a second lie of games he could play to fool himself. And even then, there was that second, when staring at those bright colours, of the world he didn't have slipped and the screen blurred and he couldn't talk, and then his new friends online were telling him that it was okay, not to worry, they were there for him, he had the game, he had the game.
Acceptance. He always had the game. A game. Maybe some part of him knew deep down inside that the fine line between game and reality had overlapped a long time ago, and that for some inherent reason he was okay with this. He wanted out. He wanted an adventure. He wanted something new, something that didn't remind him-
- Of her.
Of the fact that every single attack, every single time they hit her only brought back memories of repressed hatred, anger, denial, bargaining, the same, a cycle, a loop on repeat, a roller-coaster effect of emotions that-
- At some point he curled over and vomited, at some point, the buzzing and swirling of the insects was simply white noise.
At some point, Justin had finally mentally logged off.

Saya should have been able to take it. They were hunters, they died. Constantly. Constantly. It was her mantra. yet, why didnt repeating it in her head work? It seemed she would have to repeat it on days on end, for months before she come come to terms with it. If she ever came to terms with it. When Julie, the delicious cake-maker, came into the room, Saya had been about to apologize for not finding any kitchen supplies. But Julie came in bloody--
Not only bloody. She wasn't alive. She could possibly be alive, with all the bugs and swarms coming around her.
They were dead. They were dead and Saya had never known it. Why didn't she know? Why hadn't she taken the time to notice, if she could notice--
Holy crap, there was one thing she noticed. That was Justin, making little move to defend himself. Wordlessly, she streaked across the room, to slash at a part of the swarm before they sank their tiny legs into his body too. She could still picture it, coming through the eyes, mouth, any opening .. She wasn't about to give them any, if she could help it. She couldn't, she wouldn't, lose Justin as well. The scene of Justin, behind her, vomiting his grief into physical form .. Tears blotted her vision, forcing herself to close her eyes and let them streak down her cheeks for a clearer vision.

It seemed faltering for even a moment was bad - as Cass learned up close and personal. Nicodemus had to chide her to focusing on Julie again before she pulled herself away from that and sliced into the onslaught of bugs, panting as she listened to the strain in Nicodemus's voice.
He wasn't going to hold up too well if the bugs continued to swarm so heavily.
So powerfully.
She was going to need to use those bandages she had in her bag. She needed to use them soon. She probably wouldn't hold up to another swarm like that. The less there were, the angrier they got. The more lethal they got.
Still, it could have been a lot worse, passing a glance over to Marcus before she stepped back, half leaning onto her weapon, sweat dripping down her forehead. "I don't think I can do that again..." she mumbled between breaths. Well, she probably could have - at risk of herself.
