How does it work exactly?
I never seem to get it right.
Hmm well...
You usually roleplay on a forum.
Someone creates a roleplay, which has a whole story-plot. It can be in any time you want, the past, the future or some imaginary other planet. Usually there's magic involved.
When you have read about the world your character will live in, you make a character, using a character sheet.
The character sheet looks like this , but you can add other things too:
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Personality:
Appearance:
Biography:
But usually there's a lot more, like skills, weapons and jobs and such. Depends on what kind of roleplay you play.
Anyway, you need to fill in the character sheet, making a whole character. Once you've done that, you enter the roleplay.
There are a lot of different styles that people use for roleplaying.
Usually it the storytelling style, like this:
''Alruna was in her bedroom, inside her huge mansion. She was just dressing up, when someone knocked on the the door. ''Come in.'' She said, not caring if someone saw her changing or not. ''
You can also play like it is you who is doing it all, like this:
''I looked in my closet to see what I would wear today. I picked out some nice clothes, and started dressing myself. Then, I heard someone knock on the door. I wondered who it was, probably just the maid. ''Come in.'' I said. I could care less if my maid would see me undressed.''
Or the style I totally hate:
''Alruna is changing in her room. Then someone knocks on the door.
Alruna: Come in.''
Well, you're supposed to interact with other people, so when other people enter the roleplay, you usually don't plainly ignore them and go play on your own, but try to think of something so that they can join you, and create a nice roleplay story together.
Not everything is thought of before the roleplay starts, just a main line, which is the plot. But you're free to anything you wish, usually.
