Hi! I used to play alto sax, but I switched to tenor sax because my band had way too many altos and it was really unbalanced. whee

Bass Clarinet is AWESOME. I'm actually primarily a Horn/Mellophone player, but I've played Alto Clarinet for a while on the side, and started playing the Bass Clarinet in concert band last year. The low woodwind parts are quite a contrast from the horn parts I'm used to...if I ever got the chance, I would love to try ContraAlto or ContraBass Clarinet, and Baritone Saxophone (I've played a little Alto and Tenor). I've tried Bassoon - that was an intimidating instrument eek

I love my bass clarinet, I started this year on bass clarinet, but I've been playing soprano clarinet for 4.5 years.
A few questions for my fellow bass clarinetists?
What instrument do you play on? I play a Yamaha YCL622 (it has extension down to low C), I'm borrowing it from the school, which is nice since it's thousands of dollars.
How many people are in your sections? At my school there are 2 bass clarinets in each of 3 bands... sad isn't it?
Have you ever heard of the Edmund Welles Bass Clarinet Quartet? It's a group from California, they play heavy chamber music/metal. It's amazing. Check them out. One of their members (Jonathan Russel) was nice enough to send along some scores and parts for pieces that he's written outside of the quartet (one of his other groups) for no charge. He's really great and helpful for any questions about the BC.
