Amelia Frances Joan
It was easy to relax within Sparrow's glee. It wasn't like she would care how many points Amelia had lost for her house; they were in competition. So her response came immediately with a smile, "Of course! I loved it! It was better than flying-" She caught herself and explained, "An airplane--though it's similar to an open cockpit. And a plane go higher, but the broom, with the wind rushing by you." Her face was flush with joy. It truly was better than a plane. There weren't any gears and buttons to check, you just hoped on and pushed off. And enjoyed. Still, "I don't know if Headmistress Sing will let me take the flying class too--have you taken the class? What does it entail?" Her eyes looked hopeful and curious.

He returned his attention to the girls before him. Olli and Ginelle. Nathaniel wasn't the best at initiating a conversation. "So, what you girls were talking about before ?"

Gryffindor Prefect Sparrow----Gryffindor ----3rdyear Gryffinclaw Quidditch Captain And Seeker Sparrow found the idea of airplanes fascinating. She had never been on one of those. Maybe she would do a little research on them. She said, "Glad you enjoy it! Never heard of an areplane before." Sparrow found it interesting that Ammy could drive an areplane. She continued by saying, "I'm currently taking a lot of classes and want to take more, but don't know if I can. No I haven't taken flying class actually. I decided not to since I had been flying all my life. I did hear that it was pretty fun. They teach you the basics and then have some contest and fun. She wondered if it was as fun as she had heard.

((Thanks! And I'll be sure to PM her.))
Amelia grinned, secretly glad she found them interesting, "Maybe some day I can take you out. I have my license; but its only for small planes, there's no way I'm flying a 747." Then she cocked her head curious, "How do you travel anywhere? I mean, witches in general; how do you travel to foreign countries? Do you always have to side-apparate? Brooms can't travel that far can they?" Amelia nodded, understanding taking a lot of classes. "There are so many opportunities! I figure; I can see which ones I like, and next year just take those, but this year, it's hard to decide. I was planning on waiting until next year to take flying classes, since it was closed, I figured it would stay closed. I don't know how well I'd do on the contests, But it does sound nice. You should talk to the Headmistress about signing up for another; usually as long as you do it one at a time she won't mind." Amelia surprised herself how easily she mentioned Sing. There was no infliction in her voice, giving away her true disgust at the Headmistress's previous behavior and reaction. It wasn't that she no longer felt it, she merely knew not to show it while she was here. For all she knew that could get her kicked out of here too.

Gryffindor Prefect Sparrow----Gryffindor ----3rdyear Gryffinclaw Quidditch Captain And Seeker Sparrow was excited by this statement and also confused. She had no idea what a 747 was, but she figured it was a much larger plane. She wondered how large they got. Sparrow quickly replied, "That would be awesome! Is flying planes something that is common?" She figured that was probably how most muggles traveled other than trains and cars. Sparrow answered Ammy's next questions, "Brooms are often used. Sometimes people make long trips with breaks in between, or apparate, but with underage wizards it is harder to do so sometimes portkeys will be used or the floo network." She wondered if she should explain them since they were probably new to Ammy, but decided to wait till she asked. "Yea lots of classes seem to be going slow. I've debated dropping astronomy since I already know so much of it and I'm not really learning anything and also Divination. That class just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm already taking more classes than i should be and the homework can be hard to keep up with. I think I want to take as many classes as I can and then pick before 5th year when the O.W.L.s start. Then it won't be as stressing and I won't be mad if I didn't take a class." Sparrow enjoyed having a friend to talk to about troubles and fun stuff. She hadn't really thought about dropping anything and if she did she wouldn't know which of the classes to take.

'You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart;' Ginelle Ginny Alaine DeLuccia . Thinking . . Speaking . . Action .
Ginelle smiled to Nathaniel, glad that he was attempting a conversation. She actually didn't know what they were talking about, because she had been too distracted by him. That was sad. So, rather than disappointing him, she said "I believe we were talking about quidditch. I could be wrong though.. That reminds me. I need to practice tonight..." She began thinking about being on the quidditch pitch and how it felt so good to be on a team. She was truly a beginner at quidditch when she started, and she now loved it dearly. "Have you ever played before?" She asked him. She didn't think about the fact that if he was ever on the team that she would have to play against him. Hopefully it would never come to that, but it was very possible that it could.

Nathaniel hid some embarrassment as Ginelle asked her question. He knew she was on the Quidditch team. He knew he wished to be in it too. If there was some jealousy going on, it didn't show. "Played... Not much. I know the rules but I don't think playing a game of Quidditch with a 103 year old man is a good idea." It was the first time he even mentioned his great-grandfather. If she looked dubious he added; "My great-pa was the one who showed me Quidditch. Even if he couldn't fly on a broom. He's a huge Puddlemere United fan." Nathaniel realised Ginelle might not even know which team it was.

Ginelle looked a bit confused. What team? She was raised by a muggle for most of her life, so it didn't surprise her that this was one more thing she didn't know. "I would say you could join me some time on the quidditch pitch, but since our teams our rivals... Probably not a good idea..." Ginelle sighed. She really would enjoy flying with him one time. Then an idea struck her. "Maybe we could fly around the grounds some day? That could be fun..." With that, she was off into day-dream mode. She thought about flying around the lake, and enjoying a sunny day. To her surprise, she wasn't even thinking about Nathaniel at the time. She really just loved being outdoors.

Amelia Frances Joan
((No wonder she teases you.
And Sparrow, you should teach or become hang's substitute.))
Amelia sort of shrugged out her answer, "Riding them is, when you want to go out of Europe, like to America or something, but its a fairly unusual hobby." This was mostly due to the cost of operating a plane. And buying one in general. To maintain a flying license you had to keep your data up to date, so you had to fly. It was an expensive hobby; but with her father's high position and connections, she and her brother learned. Her mother was terrified of flying, and her little sister, too young.
Amelia loved it when her questions were answered without anyone commenting on the large number of them. It wasn't her fault she was curious. The breaks made sense and "Livi told me about floo powder, but I've never heard of a portkey, what is it?" She figured it had something to do with ports. Maybe they used special ships?
With a glum nod, Ammy agreed. Moodily she added her complaint about Divination, "I haven't even met the teacher yet. I barely know what it means. 'Sides seeing the future. But doesn't only some people have "the sight?"" She added the quotation marks. She wasn't sure if she believed in prophecy and crystal balls. If they could see the future, they'd fix the bad things. Since bad things happen, obviously whatever they see isn't too important. She brightened however, when Sparrow described her plan for fifth year, "That's exactly what I'm doing! I figure I can lose the ones I don't like or just don't mesh next year. I just wanted to try and make it through them this year." She lowered her head, letting her hair fall into her face. Her voice was quiet, as she pondered her statement. "I don't think Professor Reynolds likes me." she murmured, embarrassed, since he seemed to like everyone else. "At first I wanted to drop his class to learn things on my own, but I shouldn't drop it just because he doesn't like me should I?" Her young age was showing again, hopeful for the older one's guidance.

Gryffindor Prefect Sparrow----Gryffindor ----3rdyear Gryffinclaw Quidditch Captain And Seeker Sparrow listenened intently. She couldn't wait to get to the library and read up about airplanes. "Sounds interesting." She said. She continued on with Ammy's next question saying, "Portkeys are objects that are enchanted to bring somebody to anywhere in the world by touching it. Most the time portkeys are everyday objects so that muggles don't get intrigued and touch them by accident. Can be an old boot or some random garbage. You can transport numerous people at a time as long as everybody is touching the portkey. You can also set them to travel to a place at a specific time. They are quite interesting. I have only used them two or three times." One of those times hadn't been a very happy event and the other was when her family went to a quidditch world cup together.
Thinking about divination Sparrow said, "I think I've already had three teachers for the subject. The newest one seems to have disappeared already! I found her quite odd. I'm not really sure about divination it all seems like a waste of time to be and a bunch of mumbo jumbo." She found it to be a waste of her precious class time and she had made up her mind just then. She was going to ask to drop Divination.
When Ammy mentioned Professor Reynolds maybe not liking her she found that odd. She wondered what Ammy could have done that would make him dislike her. "Well I'm not sure why he would dislike you but I guess it is possible there are a couple people he dislikes. Defense against the Dark Arts is really an important class to take I think. If it is interfering with your learning experience though I would talk to the Headmistress. Education is the most important thing right now." That was what she thought, but you also had to have a balance so you didn't get stressed out. She hoped she was giving good advice.
((Hehe I think I'd suck at teaching biggrin ))

Amelia Frances Joan
((I'm sure you'd be no worse than I am.))
Amelia raised an eyebrow, silently wondering what happened to the road crews that worked to pick up stuff like that on the side of the road. Besides, was it truly like a used boot? Would she really want to touch it? Looking dubious about portkeys, she had to agree with Divination. "I mean, if I could figure out what it truly did, then maybe but something about it seems fairly ridiculous. Like the muggle con magicians. Amelia frowned, she wasn't fully sure either why he seemed to dislike her. At the same time, he'd fixed everything he'd done wrong--aka apologized. So she couldn't blame him. "I learned a lot, it's just...oh I don't know. Maybe I'm just imagining things." Though her voice betrayed her. She didn't believe that at all. She wished Professor Reynolds and her could just talk, but he didn't seem to think of his students (excluding the older ones he'd already befriended) as equals. Which in some ways, obviously they weren't, but in a lot of others they could be. Either way, she didn't think he'd appreciate sitting down and working it out with a long chat. Her mother's advice rarely worked in that tactic.

(Heheh ! I'm now alive and teaching. Mostly, don't feel too bad because some classes are dead T-T At least you're free from assignments. After you've read this; you can continue your discussions. Just remember to do your homework and advise me if you're doing the oral presentation.) Desiree snapped from her thinking. She spent too much time staring into space these days. Especially sitting on this chest but she guessed all the students currently in class knew about its contents. She stood up. What was she talking about ? She actually stepped out of the class for a moment. Leaving everyone without proper surveillance... Good thing she had faith in her students. Desiree felt lucky since she never crossed a troublemaker's path. She stepped in, letting her presence known. Everyone turned their heads towards her while she walked back to the chest. "Hello class ! Sorry for my short absence and I don't want to spoil too much of your precious time chatting amongst yourselves. I don't mind between lessons but it's time to listen." Desiree bent down and started opening the latches. One of them even broke of rust. "Now, rumors have gotten through the halls and of course this chest just confirms it. We'll be learning about Quidditch until the end of the term. I guess I never was much of a planner when teaching." she forced a short laugh. "So, if class doesn't mind this sudden change of subject..." She'd just finished untangling everything and opened the chest in creak. Just as suspected, the chest contained very old looking balls. The Bludgers didn't even move. Desiree wasn't a fan of controlling those nasty iron blooders. "Now you may have noticed that the Bludgers aren't trying to knock yourself out to the next classroom. These are in fact balls that I've managed to get casted but aren't bewitched. Since this is purely for educational purposes, spellbound balls weren't needed and frankly, I like it that way."She took out her wand, murmuring Wingardium Leviosa for herself. Three balls elevated into the air and floated next to her. A Quaffle, a Bludger and a Golden Snitch. "For students who doesn't own a copy of Quidditch Through The Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp; don't worry as I'll write everything on the board. The following balls have different uses. We will cover them soon so be sure to read up ! I know we have Quidditch players here, so don't spoil too much fun. Also, some lessons might appear in your Flying class so I won't fully cover the brooms section since I'll need your teacher's permission to go further. Just remember that wizards made their own broom and they were certainly very uncomfortable." Moving her wand, the balls returned to the chest. It looked like it contained much more than just balls. The students would have to find out later. "Quidditch didn't start out as it is. Its ancestor was a game called Queerditch Marsh." she had troubles pronouncing the word. "Starting during the eleventh century, it was Gertie Keddle who recorded in her diary about wizards playing a game on broomsticks. The goal was to kick the ball in a tree.
As you can see, it wasn't much of a Quaffle. In those times, rocks were used instead of Bludgers. They were bewitched to fly around the field." she grimaced at the idea of heavy objects zooming around in the air. "It wasn't until a century later, when a man named Goodwin Keen wrote to his cousin about a game of Kwidditch." She wrote on the blackboard this new variation of the name. "In the letter, we've discovered an ancient term for Chaser which was Catcher and Blooder for Bludgers. The trees have been replaced by barrels on stilts by still no Snitch." She finished by copying a passage of the letter on the board. Radulf got a Blooder in the head because old Ugga wasn't quick enough with his club. The new scorring barrels worked well. Three at each end on stilts, Oona from the inn gave us them. "And now for the first assignment since a long time ! Now knowing about the conditions of Queerditch Marsh and about medieval brooms, I'd like you to write a small parchment of a fictional story of you playing a match of Queerditch ! You may use your imagination but remember this;
- Quaffles were round leather balls with either a strap or holes. - Bludgers were bewitched heavy rocks to fly around the field. Clubs were used instead of a bat. - The goals are barrels on stilts. - Brooms were highly rustic. - Fields were open-aired spaces with no spells to keep the balls in a delimited area.
There are no limitations on words, just have a good story. You may choose to submit it in for of a parchment sent by owl, give it to me in class or even stand up to the class and do an oral presentation. That last option can net you extra-credit but that means that the whole class must ask questions or interact with you as if you've truly lived in the twelfth century. Please finish the assignment before next Monday, April 4th !" (Since QTTA is a copyrighted book; I'll try to paraphrase but some parts of the lesson will have to be copy-pasted x3 Check out the wikis too !)

Amelia Frances Joan
Upon hearing the assignment Amelia raised her hand, "I'd like to do it as an oral presentation, ma'am" Already planning the voices for the various players, she realized she didn't know two things, "Are the number of players the same as Quidditch, minus the Seeker? And how did you win?" Was it a certain time limit? Seemed better than the months of playing that had happened during modern Quidditch. Or was it reaching a certain score? Possibilties were enough to make her curious.
((Can I do the assignment Monday? While Amelia would be willing to make it up immediately, I'd like time to plan it out....watch me regret her being a Ravenclaw.))
