And so it was that Jack, hidden by his camouflage ninjutsu, began the final symphony he had composed, awakening the genjutsu he had created and allowing its birthing wings to unfold. The thick mist and smoke from the fires and from Sypher's jutsu helped quite a bit to hide the figures that melded out of the dark blotches he had created, their bodies humanoid in shape but void of any defining features. Who were these things, these people? And any who saw it were trapped within it, a victim to this power. These figures, these shapes, coalesced into the faces of those gone before, long dead or dying. Their voices came with them, many demanding to know why they had died, why had they been abandoned in life, or any other guilt their minds had for crimes of the past. Family members, friends and loved ones, calling them failures and fools, unfit to the title of shinobi. Any horrible memory was dredged up into existence, while lost loved ones promised a swift end to their words, if only they came with them. If only they would come with them to the other side all would be forgiven, all would be over!
• The Departed's Retribution → B Rank Genjutsu → In order to use this technique, Jack must have already summoned haze clones, as many as he can. However, instead of them being copies of himself the images take on the appearance of shadowy humanoids. Now, then, Jack can use this jutsu. By forming the handsigns Rat-Ox-Horse-Bird the faces and bodies of the Haze Clones are altered. They now appear as the most important people in the targets' lives who had died, whether the most loved or hated, and they speak of how horrible the target is, bringing up forgotten crimes and misdeeds, failed missions and such, in order to assault the psyche of the targets. At the same time others will beckon the victims to come with them, to everlasting peace, assaulting the mind to choose one or the other. After the faces have fully formed, the Haze clones vanish, leaving the idea that the shades from the Haze had been the souls and minds of those who were dead.
→ After forming the needed hand seals, the Shinobi can grant them self near-invisibility. So far only the Sharingan eye and its revelation abilities have been shown to pierce the veil and see the hidden Shinobi . It is unknown if the Byakugan can penetrate the Jutsu and see the user's Chakra circulatory system.

He screamed. How could he not? There was agony all over him as thousands of balls slammed into his face, his mouth, his chest and torso. And when they exploded he doubled over to try to breathe, snarling in rage. But when he raised his eyes it was to find the face of a little girl, no older than a toddler, with eyes sunken and pained. "Why did you let me die?"
The man leaped back with a scream, holding his arms out in front of him to stop her advance, but from the way he flinched at her step forward it was obvious he was afraid of contact. "No! You cannot exist! You are dead, dead!!!"

Sypher lurched backward as figure appeared from the smoke, falling back and landing hard on his hip. The person before him....was impossible. It was impossible Oba-san! he stared at the old man who seemed to have simply appeared from the mist. Bent and wrinkled, thick white hair pulled back and in a tail at his neck, the man who Sypher had been named after didn't advance towards him at first. Which was not a surprise...the man had been impossibly old when Sypher had first met him "Hey boy...you look beat. You should rest more...take a rest...a breather..." the man offered, seeming to sit himself. Sypher couldn't move or speak, the shock rendering him totally defenseless. But he knew exactly what the man meant by a rest....the last words he'd been had from the man was that he was 'going to take a breather'....he'd died the next day.

-----αscream alerted me to my trap activating, and I probably would have laughed had the situation not been so dire. He would be furious if he found me, found out the attack was mine, and would probably tear me to shreds. Actually, there was no doubt about that. -----Shuddering at the thought, I considered what to do next. There wasn't much else that could be done at this point, except attempt to defend myself should the need arise. -----That's when a second scream from the plague bearer alerted me that something was wrong. It could have been another trap, but he didn't sound any further away than the first time he'd shrieked. Eyes wide, I turned to look desperately for what was wrong. And quickly regretted it. -----Figures moved in the mist and smoke, figures that moved slowly toward me. At first, I wasn't sure what they could be. There were two of them, and they didn't seem to be in any hurry. But when they came close enough to see, I felt my blood turn to ice. -----My parents stood before me, looking exactly as I remembered them, my mother with her dark auburn hair and gentle, deep blue eyes and my father with the strong build of a farmer and hunter. Even their scent was the same, that of the earth and soil they tended to year after year away from the troubles the rest of the world had to offer. How? How could they possibly be here? I had watched them as they were murdered, watched as they died. -----Except their eyes were not so gentle now. In fact, they were angry. Had I done something wrong? Scarcely daring to breathe, I could only stare. -----I nearly leapt out of my skin when my father spoke, his voice so familiar, as if I had heard it every day during the two years since then. "Is this the path you've decided to take?" The disappointment and outright disgust cut like a knife. What was he saying? "I knew you were trouble the moment that woman showed up with you." -----I felt myself begin to tremble again, my voice catching in my throat as I tried to answer. "Wha...what do you...?" -----My mother's words only pushed the knife deeper. "It's your fault we were murdered. What's so special about you that we had to die for it? You're not even our son." -----"I... don't... I..." -----My father sniffed disdainfully. "You can't even speak to us now, the ones who raised you in our household?" -----I covered my head with my arms, pulling my knees close to me, hoping to block out their words. They said exactly what I had always feared. As much as I knew they were dead, that there was no way they could be standing in front of me, that didn't stop the pain of it. Tears welled in my eyes, blinding me before they spilled over. I tried a Kai, but they still stood in front of me. What was this?

Jack was immune to his jutsu, immune to the haze clones, for in effect he could feel and control them all. Any images coming his way were obviously no one of import to him. Oddly, though, they continued to try. He heard the voices but felt no compulsion to listen. Could it be that others were hearing and seeing this? Could it be that anyone who saw his clones was trapped into his jutsu? It made little sense at first, but after listening to the cries and the pleas from his clones, he knew that it was not only possible or probable, but was happening right then. Eyes widening at this, Jack looked about for senses, felt for the power he knew was there, the life force, and found it. Shadow was outside, though his clones were elsewhere. Leaping forward, Jack sprinted from the building with agility not a single person alive knew he possessed, but when he came within vision of Shadow he slowed for he had grown mightily tired.
What he saw almost broke his heart.
Shadow's parents were there, and their words were harsh. He could see his own genjutsu, see what it was others saw, heard what it was they were being told. This was a cruelty he had not intended, not at all, and the fact that necessity had made this necessary bit at him. Reaching forward he grabbed Shadow's arm and released an extremely powerful Kai into his system, shattering the illusion for him. To Jack, he left the genjutsu in place so he could see the fears of the plaguebearer. At that same time he released another genjutsu, the Voice of Influence. "Shadow!" His voice spread into him, making him feel once more as if Jack's word were to be believed. "Shadow, this was an illusion! Clear it from your mind, remember it not!"

The Plaguebearer was unfortunate in his lack of friends and jutsu. He tried to Kai out of this illusion, knowing this for what it was upon the sight of the dead girl. But it was the masses that gathered that began to frighten him, hundreds of these clones with faces of the dead or dying, those afflicted by his touch. He screamed once more as they reached for him, angry, and he took a step back.
And he fell, fell further and further, until with a thunderous report he landed upon a wooden platform not a hundred feet from Sypher. The man groaned, sitting up, having yet to open his eyes.

"Should never have taken you in....shoulda left you with the rats." Sypher's heart twisted at his Oba's words, knowing in his mind that the man would never say that. It was his own guilt, it had to be! An explosion of sound caught Sypher unawares and he jumped, tearing his eyes from the figment to see..."T-Tomi?" he stared at the Plaguebearer, not realizing who it was. The shock of recognizing this fallen man startled Sypher more then seeing his Oba. The last he'd seen of Tomi, the man had been fighting off his wife as she attacked him with teeth, nails and knives. This man was the other half of the Couple...the one's who had bought him from his older brother when he was a child. Pushing himself up along the wall, Sypher began to back away Is he real? Or is this like Oba? WHY is he here? a second later, Ima crashed down beside him, hackles raised and teeth bared, a heavy snarl starting in her throat I have to get out of here... Sypher turned and came face to face with his Oba, the old man's eyes filled with rage and hate "Shoulda left you to the rats." Crying out in surprise, Sypher found himself trapped. One side, the man who had raised him and on the other, the man who had bought him. Ima too seemed unsure where to turn or who to attack. Her ears were flat against her head, fangs out as she backed Sypher into the wall with her body, head going from Oba to Tomi.

-----αt first I could only stare at whoever had grabbed my shoulder, not really seeing or registering who it was until I saw my parents standing before me shatter into nothing more than blank faced mist clones. I knew all along that they had only been illusions. After all, I had watched them die two years before. But that didn't change the fear and despair I felt. -----I looked back to who had grabbed my shoulder, finally hearing a familiar voice, and I finally dared to uncover my head. I stared at Jack, tears still flowing freely down the sides of my face. But when I opened my mouth to speak, I only sobbed. No other sound came out. What was there to say? I knew now that this had been his doing, and I knew that he hadn't meant to have me caught in it, but my mind was in a wreck. I couldn't think. -----It's because of the fact that I couldn't think that I must have thought it was a good idea to go straight for the kill. Without taking my eyes off of Jack, I grabbed my bow from where it had been dropped, and then suddenly took off into the smoke and mist. I had no idea where I was going, but recalling my clones not only allowed me to see three more times what I had just seen in the illusion, but also showed me where the plague bearer had fallen from the building. -----So that was where I went, drawing an arrow from my quiver and notching it. -----Still barely able to see straight, I aimed my bow at the man the instant he came into view. My hands were shaking so badly even taking a deep breathe didn't steady them. In fact, it made it worse. But this was his fault. If he hadn't come here to this village, I would have never been faced with such images. That conviction led me to releasing the string. -----Except I missed completely. The arrow hit the ground solidly about a foot to the right of the man. I'd missed a stationary target, something I couldn't remember having done for years. The determination I'd felt not a moment before evaporated in that second, and I sunk to my knees, all my strength suddenly gone.

Jack's eyes widened as Shadow took off, as he spoke not a word to Jack before taking off. What had happened to SHadow's mind there, seeing his parents? What had befallen the young man's psyche? Something told him to follow, to go after the boy, for if he did not the boy would surely come to greatest of harm. And so Jack ran for the second time in his known life, his flute going to his lips as he did so. Already his body was beginning to feel tired, to ache from loss of chakra, but he kept on anyway.
And he arrived just as Shadow's arrow missed, much to his shock and surprise.

The arrow shot by, and Sypher's voice awakened the nearly catatonic Plaguebearer. Sitting up he roared out thunderously, a feeling of pressure coming over nearly everyone instantly. The figure moved and shunshined to just before the great tiger, grabbing the creature's throat and causing its bones to shrivel from brittle bone disease. Next his eyes went to Sypher and he growled, his eyes glowing fiercely. "You! You have a virus! It is mine, now, fool!"
As the figure stopped speaking there came a scream from behind him as he cast his Genjutsu, an area of effect technique that spread plague and virus to all within the apartment complex, made them both carriers and victims in one go. WWhomever was affected was now filled with a horrible, terrifying version of Ebola.

"IMA, SCAT!" Sypher bellowed as the Plaguebearer reached for the tiger and the great cat did exactly that, dodging the reaching hands and disappearing down the hall. As the man spoke, Sypher felt the his seal explode on his back, a rush of heat and he slumped hard into the fall, falling to the ground. Jack was experiencing the first effects of the disease....Sypher's was advanced. The already formed bruises split into massive, open sores that oozed congealed blood, black with disease, and caused massive pain. As the disease attacked his organs, one lung collapsed and he heaved a breath only to sputter blood from his lips moments later. Internally, his organs were paractically eating themselves as the disease forced its way into his intestine and the lining of his stomach ripped. He didn't fight it, knowing that moving would make it worse Haaa...haaa...damn.... he closed his eyes and his body went totally limp, the blood starting to pool around his body. The bruise along his jaw was spreading, the sore taking up most of his left cheek...Ima was pacing the floor above, right over where Sypher was, the ceiling and the floor separating them.

-----confusion was the first thing that registered to my mind, even before panic. What was going on? I shuddered when I heard Jack scream and turned my gaze to see him writhing on the ground in pain. The Kage, not far off, was in much worse condition. I couldn't even tell if he was conscious from where I knelt. -----What had happened to them? What were these wounds suddenly appearing on them? Another Genjutsu? No... that didn't seem right. But then why wasn't I being affected by whatever this was? -----What was I supposed to do? Run? I couldn't just leave them there... Right? I couldn't abandon Jack, and it was our responsibility as shinobi to defend the Mizukage. -----But... again came the problem of what was I supposed to do? I had nothing useful I could use against. -----I pushed myself shakily to my feet without taking my eyes off of the man, though I avoided looking into his eyes. I didn't know how he had attacked the other two without looking them in the eye, or why I wasn't affected, but I could still defend them for as long as possible. It was pathetic, a genin with no hope of winning going up against such a powerful figure but my conviction, my will to keep these two from being murdered, was all I had. Even if I knew it wouldn't be enough. -----My hands were still trembling, tears still leaking freely from my eyes, but I gripped my bow tightly, notched an arrow. Taking a deep breath to steady myself as much as I could, I lifted the point once more toward the man. I would make sure I didn't miss again if he made another move to attack.
The plaguebearer laughed, throwing back his head and "mwahaha'"ing as much as any man in his position had the right to do. That was, until he realized that somehow, miraculously, there was one person still standing. One person more than any living creature had a right to. He had seen this disease within the the Mizukage, had felt its virulence, had tasted the horrible and sweet succulence of its genetic structure, the truth behind its intent. This was not a disease or virus that could be ignored, nor overcome this quick even were it not made of his own Kekkei Genkai. So who, then was this boy? He turned and stared at the boy with an arrow so casually aimed for him, and frowned. "What do you have that so protects you, boy? Tell me, and I will spare your life, and the life of one individual of your choice." With a flick of his wrist a blade shot into his hand, a kunai that was hooked and barbed. An evil grin spread across the pustule covered face. "Or you can not, and your secret will die with you."

-----мy hand began to tremble again but I didn't loosen my grip. I couldn't give up now. I could hit him with my arrow before he got close to me. I hoped, anyway. -----Except I couldn't answer him. He was expecting an answer and I didn't believe he would let me live anyway. Shaking my head in hopes he understood that I didn't know why I wasn't affected I backed away toward Jack instinctively. I knew I was meant to protect the Mizukage as well, but I couldn't protect them both, outside of firing if the man made a move. -----You are pathetic if you will let your fear end you. -----That voice, that feeling, the strange, dark swelling within me again. What was it? Because it brought more fear to me than even this man, this demon standing before. -----Perhaps it was that, or simply the panic my mind was being enveloped in, that made me fire. I released the string before my mind even registered the action, and by then it was too late to turn back. -----Maybe this was the end anyway?
The figure snarled at Shadow just as the arrow went high. Except instead of hitting him the man moved to the side, the arrow slicing its way down his arm and sending blood arching out into the air. He screamed and lunged forward, reaching to grab Shadow's throat, to crush the life from him completely.
But a piercingly loud flute came to their ears, and the figure froze in place. There was an incredible amount of chakra laced with it, and it froze the man in his tracks.
And from behind him came a cry, a voice filled with agony. "Kill....Him....!"

-----ιwas too shocked to move, staring at the hand that was inches away from my throat, inches away from ending my life before the man had been brought to his knees by a force I couldn't see. My bow slipped from my hand. I couldn't hold it anymore even if I'd wanted to. I was so afraid that I couldn't even cry, couldn't make a sound. -----My legs grew weak underneath me and I staggered back, thinking for a moment I might pass out. But Jack's agonized voice behind me revived me. He had provided me the chance to end this, stopped the demon in its tracks so that I, the only one still standing, could destroy it before it destroyed everything we knew. -----It didn't feel real. -----In fact, I almost felt like I was dreaming, like this was all just some horrid nightmare that I couldn't wake up from. But it wasn't, even though that morning felt like years ago now. I knew from the throbbing of the cut in the palm of my hand and the ache of the many bruises I had obtained that this was real because dreams, while terrifying, couldn't hurt you. Not physically. -----This was real, this was death staring me in the face waiting for the moment he was released from his bindings to finish me off. I had to end him first. -----I had no courage to do such a thing. Taking a life was a great burden to bear. I was only ten years old, on my second day as an official shinobi of Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist. -----But this man had hurt Jack. He had hurt my family and my village. Could I just stand aside again while they were slaughtered? Like my parents... Anger, hatred swelled, the past year of loneliness giving way to something greater as I realized perhaps for the first time that this was my home now and despite the scorn I might have received for my appearance, its people were those I needed to protect. Not just myself, Jack, or the Kage. It was all for a greater purpose.
-----Let your anger give you strength. Embrace it, embrace your anger, and you will be unstoppable.
-----Those words again... But this time I believed them, I was willing to follow them. -----I had to end it now. -----I felt nothing but the anger and the hatred toward the man as I faced him, removing the Ukyo Mizo from the sheath attached to my bag. Stepping forward, I gave myself no chance to think about what I was doing and dragged the blade across the man's throat with a spray of blood, promptly stabbing him in the chest with as much strength as I could put to my arm. -----It was only when I removed the blade and the man slouched forward to the ground that it occurred to me what exactly I had done. My body and mind panicked, the blade slipping from my fingers. I staggered back again, this time my legs failing to keep me standing. I stared in horror at the dying man before me, blood gurgling out from his slashed throat with his last breathes. -----I don't know how long I stared after he drew his last breath, but a sharp stinging through my injured hand brought me, somewhat, from my stupor. I stared blankly at the strange foaming over the cut. It seemed familiar from something, but I couldn't place what. -----When it hit me, my eyes widened in something that must have been joyous surprise. I could still save Jack and the Kage if I was right about it. -----Because that foaming was the same thing that happened when hydrogen peroxide fought an infection. -----If I was wrong, I could kill them, but wouldn't the blood kill me in that case? It didn't seem to be. Trembling beyond control, I dunked my hand in the dead plague bearer's pooled blood and crawled over to Jack's side, since he was closer. But what was I supposed to do with the blood? There were too many wounds on his body to try them all individually. So I forced the blood into his mouth. -----Unwilling to wait in case it did work, I moved as quickly as I could back to the plague bearer and then to the Mizukage, repeating what I'd done for Jack. Unsure what to do other than wait, I pulled my legs to my chest and watched for something, anything to happen.

Jack's body immediately convulsed, frothing at the mouth. He screamed in a gurgling way as the black began to recede from his body, to flee from his system. His black of his skin, the bruising, slowly retreated into his body, away from his skin. It was digested, healed, and better now than before. Jack opened his eyes wide as his body stopped convulsing and took clear, deep breaths, his eyes dazed but clear. "That...What?" He looked towards Sypher and his eyes went wide in panic, and he pointed without a second thought. "Go!"
"I Must Drag Truth Kicking and Screaming into the Light"
Jack's body may have convulsed at the healing but Sypher's body practically exploded. The disease had been bred into his DNA and cleansing it was....not pretty. Blood came first, bleeding profusely out of his mouth, ears and nose, practically erupting from his wounds. Froth bubbled out of his partly closed lips, blending with the blood before became just blood. His skin went from the usual tan to almost white as the blood slowed, a massive pool of blood now surrounding him, his clothes soaked with it. His entire appearance seemed to lighten, to become a combination of blood loss and his DNA being basically cleansed of the disease. Then, slowly, his organs started to rebuild themselves as his eyes fluttered open "....?" one eye had lost all color, turning a pale gray while the other remained golden. His gaze was blurred and dizzy from the blood loss and he didn't make any movement, lightheaded to the point of almost passing out again "...is it over...?" he rasped, his throat raw as hell.
