Edel stared at the group for a beat, then closed her eyes and let out a long sigh. Well, this was all starting sooner than she was expecting. Hmh...well, it can't be helped.
"Yes." she replied finally, opening her eyes. A rather...deadpan expression behind her gaze. "It had a rather big connection to the heroes that disappeared. Unfortunately, I was told to basically..."stop letting people into my home." Stop helping would probably be the better statement. So...with the partial risk that it will find some free time and make a return trip...I'm afraid I'll have to keep things outside my home from now on."

Carlie put her hands on her hips and got an expression that would remind Hal very much of Carol Ferris when the latter was irritated.

"So did we just waste a trip here or what?" she asked her father.

"Not completely." he replied. "Are you sure that was the same being that has taken a lot of this world's heroes?" he asked the woman.

"Very." Edel replied. "I'm afraid even if you did go back into the room, there would be nothing for you to find." she said, then paused for a moment in thought. "Although...I will be making a trip into the city not long from now to...have a little chat about this problem with someone else..."

"Oooh, into the city? Cool. Hey Dad, would you take me shopping?" Carlie asked, and Marvel chuckled at this.

"Looks like Carlie's too much of a teen to be bothered with this, Hal," he said gently. Carlie looked affronted.

"Hey hey hey... I'm worried, but there's not much I can do right now! Might as well kill time bonding with my dad, right?" she asked, and Marvel shrugged.

Hal became quiet a moment and looked at C.J. Shopping...? Imminent Apocalypse, missing heroes, black lanterns, and she wanted to go shopping?

Edel grinned a bit. "I apologize again that you came all this way for nothing. I can't let you in, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourselves in my little town. He didn't say anything about being hospitable outside my home."

"No, it's alright. You said you were going to the city to talk to someone else about the being?" Hal asked.

"Yes. You're more than welcome to join me if you want to know more about the situation." she replied, then grinned. "Of course...if you're going to be out and about...I can always send you a little "call" when I'm ready to leave."

Hal frowned and thought for a moment, then looked over to Marvel. "Did you say that the two heroes you were with before were in the city somewhere?

Carlie folded her arms and stared right at her father, raising her eyebrow in an "Orly?" expression and looking once again like Carol Ferris in the process.

"C'mon, Dad. Even heroes have off-days." she said.

Marvel, however, looked to Edel. "Yes, they are in the city. I don't really know where, but I might be able to locate Paragon, as he has the power of Shazam as well as I. I've never done anything like that, so I might not be able to do it. But I should try, at least," he said to her.

Edel paused for a moment and blinked. "Paragon?" That was....was that the boy's alias? He had a similar energy about him like the hero standing in front of her. "Was he by any chance with another young girl? ....Alex?" she asked.

Hal looked back C.J. "They do. But not while they're in the middle of a mission." he replied with a small grin.

"Yes, actually. She looked to be a little bit younger than him." Marvel replied.

Edel smiled a bit. "I know where they went to, if that will help. I have no guarantee that they will still be there, but, I know where they went to. I also just so happens to be the place I need to visit later to have that talk." she replied, then paused a moment again in thought. "Actually...I believe I'd be able to multi-task. I could head over now as well, if you'd like."

"That would be very good, ma'am," Marvel said, though Carlie just pouted.

"And here I was thinking I'd be able to go shopping in the past. LOLNOPE! It's always 'work work work'..." she said, slightly irritated.

Hal started to become irritated. "For one, we have no where to put anything; I don't have an apartment or anything here. And you wouldn't be able to get much. I don't exactly have a job here, and haven't been to work in months. I'm not even sure I have a bank account here. That's all aside from the threat of world-wide enslavement ticking down. This is serious. There could very well only be a handful of us available to take on an onslaught." Hal replied.

Edel glanced over at the pair and grinned a bit. "You know...we never did get tot have that little talk." she said to Hal. "If...you do get a few minutes of free time....after you've found and talked to the other heroes....window shopping might be optional. I would like to talk to you before hand, though."
Then she looked over at C.J. "And he is right...that power that was engulfing my room...barely a noticeable fraction compared to the power the actual being has. And if there's a team-up happening....you'd be facing three of them, with an army. If your from the future, I'm sure your father has told you about the whole Blackest Night thing...?"

"Of course he did! But he never... never mentioned this..." Carlie said, and then she frowned as she thought on that. What could have caused that?

"Well....there is a possibility that it could be like that event all over again. This time with allied back up forces. It's not going to be fun....but the more work you can get done now, while it's quiet, the better chance you'll have at facing this threat." Edel said.

Carlie sighed, and folded her arms. She knew Edel was right; she just didn't want to accept it yet. After all, she was not simply a rookie, she was only sixteen-- and it wasn't like she was a member of the Teen Titans, since she had no real experience with combat apart from... well, humiliating Doomsday, actually.

And then the thought really hit home: She, a rookie hero, had knocked out Doomsday, one of the most powerful supervillains to ever exist, using her own imagination and wit, plus the element of surprise... and the help of her father of course. And this was not just Doomsday-- but Doomsday as a Black Lantern.

Was it skill, or was it... sheer luck? Most likely the latter, Carlie decided with a small frown. And then another thought hit her: she was in way, way over her head here. Her father had dealt with Black Lanterns before, but she had only heard stories. She had survived the encounter with Doomsday... but would she survive a round two, especially if she was alone?

"... I..." she said softly, looking down. "I'm just..."

Then she started to cry, oddly enough. "I-I'm scared, okay?! I-I don't even know how to fight! You only trained me for a month, Dad, a-and I n-never got a chance to do a-anything heroic... A-and I-I don't want to do this! I-I might die; I don't wanna die, Daddy! I-I don't..."

She broke down completely, giving her father a tight hug for support and comfort, crying into his jacket heavily and shaking.

Hal took a small step back, caught off guard by the sudden change of emotion. Reflexively, he wrapped his arms around the girl and looked down at her. "Hey, take it easy. Just calm down, alright? You're not going to die. I won't let that happen." he replied. He glanced up at Edel with a bit of panic in his eyes, then looked back down at the girl. "It's alright."

"I don't believe you'll need to worry about fighting Black Lanterns for a while, my dear." Edel added. "You have plenty of time to practice fighting"

"Yes." hal said. "We still have a job to do. You won't have to worry about fighting anything for a while. And part of our job was for me to help train you, remember?"

Edel grinned a bit. "You'll be fine, child. From what I gather, your parent's are something special. And I can tell you talents are passed down. With or without training."
