Nico was about to make it to the elevator when she heard running feet and paused, her brows furrowing. She could hear Jane's voice echo and she straightened up more when she recognized that wasn't his normal voice. Slipping the datapads into the pocket in her gown, she slipped her belt around her waist, her throwing daggers going into another pocket as she took a deep breath. She could do this. "When blood is shed..." She had flicked out her switchblade, the corner of her mouth twitching as she sliced open her flesh, immediately feeling that emptiness grow in her chest as the head of her staff came forth. "...let the Staff of One emerge." She finished, the oddness in her voice fading as she gripped her staff and broke into a run back down the hall.

She heard laughter before she could see him, shifting her grip as he finally came back into view. Taking a deep breath, she had to be very careful since she could only use this once. The nurses saw that she was there and immediately moved to the side once they saw her holding her staff. "Revert him back to how he was before this medical mishap!" She commanded, pointing the top of her staff towards Jane, really hoping that would be specific enough. Usually it was enough, but sometimes it got picky. No, I was specific enough. She grimaced as she felt a dark memory wash over her again, another side effect, shuddering as she straightened up again. She really didn't want to have to knock him out considering his current state.

--...I've decided on something.--

Jane settled suddenly, although he was holding his head. A flush of memories coming back- all at once. His eyes looked up slightly to meet her, showing the clear orange color that had been hidden by confusion before. He took a deep breath, looking around at the nurses, fully aware. This wasn't the first time he'd sat here like this. In a hospital...in one of these bases. How...

Really, his injuries weren't fully cured, but they felt as if they were. they looked a lot further along. "Nico..." He said softly. His voice resembled just faintly that of his father in his memories. So many to deal with. To figure out. At least now he didn't have to guess at anything.

(( Oh? ))

Nico was watching him very carefully, taking slow, steady steps towards him as he seemed to calm down. She continued to move in such a non-threatening manner just to be safe, lowering her staff while she clamped a hand over the cut on her arm, her switchblade having vanished into a pocket.

"Yes Jane?" She asked softly, picking up immediately on who he sounded like and it pained her. Especially since she knew the mission that they had in front of them. Oh god. She just realized, what if her spell had caused him to regain all his memories. She hadn't even thought of that. "How are you feeling?" She took a moment before asking this, now almost up to the side of his bed.

Jane looked at Nico calmly. He smiled simply, his eyes still that clear, unfazed orange that seemed so strange. "I'm feeling lovely. Other than a horrid headache." An oddly natural British accent was slipping from his lips. "I- you won't believe this- but I...I remember." His eyes were calm, and they were eyeing the spot that she was covering.

"You do know that I know how you get your staff out, right? You really shouldn't have..."

Drifting. Drifting. Drifting in the dark. Drifting through the nothing. Drifting through what's been left behind. No sense of anything, for this is nothing. This is what he knows. This is all he'll ever know. It's a curse, and also a gift. Gift, German for poison, English for something given with no restrictions. Gift, curse, nothing. The nothing that is before him. The nothing that is around him. The nothing that has engulfed him. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Drifting in the nothing. He feels wind on his cheek. No, he can't feel wind on his cheek. He has no cheek. There is no wind. This is nothing. This is his nothing. This is all he has. Nothing. Drifitng. Nothing.

Nico exhaled slowly, straightening up more as she relaxed. Wincing lightly, she felt her staff dissipate, sucking it back into her chest. Now if only she could regain the sensation that was lost when she had to pull it out. At least she didn't feel much at that point in time, so it was like having a clean slate for the moment. "Well, at least it's just that." She murmured, having to resist a chuckle as she heard the accent. Her eyebrows raised, the unexpected did indeed occur. Well, even though it wasn't exactly what she had intended, it worked.

Managing a faint, brief smile, she felt the wound on her arm close up, a dark magenta sort of sparkle flickering across it. "I'm glad that you do. Not initially what I intended, but glad it helped in an unexpected way." She said softly, her hands now hanging at her sides, her voice a little more hollow than normal. "I know you do. What else was I to do? Beam you over the head with injuries such as yours? Hardly. Ah well, least the spell got put to good use. I'm not really worried about the cut." She cracked her neck, the nurses almost seeming like they were just done with these power users. If she felt differently right now and all of what had happened with her hadn't, she'd probably be chuckling.

Now she turned to head towards the elevator again, but held pause, her hazel eyes resting upon him. "Are you going to be fine? Or should I stay?" She asked, personally preferring if she could get some privacy to look at this message she had received from her parents. God knows what they wanted or were going to try to tell her. I also need to find everyone else and pull them together.... Wonder if I should get more coffee..... Right now she shouldn't worry about her own issues, she'd hopefully get to at some point. She had to make sure her team was ok and would be up and ready for their missions now.

Jane grinned. His eyes went back and forth as he stood up. "I really think you meant for your spell to be slightly more specific." He chuckled, having no issues now. Well, at least the widespread meaning did them good instead of injury.

As she asked him if he was going to be fine, he winked and said: "Of course I'm going to be fine. I always am, aren't I?" He realized that he should wait for a map or something to try and figure out this base, but at least remembering wouldn't be too much of a problem now. "You can go off and do what you wish."

Nico sighed lightly and shrugged, this was true. She had. Bottom line was, it worked. That was the important thing. The fact it restored his memories was a bonus. And well, made her feel better about using up that spell. She better make a note that she wouldn't be able to use it again.

Blinking at his wink, it made her briefly smirk, holding up her hands as if in slight surrender. "Hey, I like to check. We're going to be holding a meeting once I can find everyone. We've got a couple of missions that need taking care of." She reported, taking a couple of steps towards the hallway that led down to the elevator. Relieved, she nodded once, glancing to the nurses who seemed to avert their eyes rather quickly. "Very well. Take care Jane. You know where I'll be. Or well, you'll learn." She waved a hand at her mistake, heading off now to the elevator. Once inside, she exhaled slowly, looking down to her wrist. Her spell power had increased again. It made her worried and glad. Worried because now it might end up affecting more than she meant to, but glad since that meant they would be more effective.

Once in her room, she collapsed onto her bed, placing her weaponry aside now that there wasn't any immediate danger, pulling out her two data pads. One she set aside on the bed, the other.... she stared at it for a moment. Deciding to take another few minutes, she leaned her back against the wall, staring up to the ceiling before closing her eyes. Lord she had a lot to work through now....

Black. Darkness. Shadow. The nothing. It's the shadow of everything. A void that follows everything. Shadow. Darkness. It's death, the darkness. Death. The opposite of life. The result of draining life. The result of his power. He drains life. He brings death. He brings nothing. He is the nothing. This is his punishment. To feel what others feel as a result of his power. This is his world. The nothing is his world. The darkness. The shadow. The black. His world. His punishment. Nothing. Drifting.

Jane smiled at Nico as she left, his eyes immediately focusing on a random nurse once she was out of the room. "Excuse me, but would you happen to know the way to my room?" He lifted his rapier, wrapping the sheath around his waist for the time being as he waited for the nurse to respond. Between his clear eyes and his vocal resemblance to his father, it seemed that he was one of the easiest people to trust. Eventually, she nodded walking off in front of him.

He grinned as they moved through the halls. Good. His eyes rapidly took in all of his surroundings, all of the halls. Truly, before he had that bout of amnesia, which he now found was not, he'd been quick to memorize and to remember everything. It made him glad to no longer have the necessity to ask for directions when he was treading down a path he'd gone down many a time.

When the nurse finally reached his room, she ushered him, leaving immediately. Quiet. Closed eyes. Breath. Open eyes. Glance about. Everything seemed the same. Some ounce of him recognized this room, but then there was the Jane of the flooding memories. The Jane that remembered a split room. The Jane that had his dad right there next to him.

He sighed lightly. Well, he knew that his father was alive. Or at least, he'd been alive when Jane had escaped- after he was giving at memory blocking shot. Thankfully, he'd made it to that theatre before that. Actually, the entire thing explained his life. Of course it did. It was his memories.

If they were lucky, his father was still alive now. Somehow, he knew he was. His uncle liked to gloat. And he was probably still trying to gloat.

Jane moved around the room. Tap, tap. Feet scuffled across his floor. Slide open the drawer. He changed into a simple, clean white dress shirt and black slacks this time. He combed his hair cleanly, so it stuck up in a way that made it look like it was still tidy. He put on his daggers, sighing as he sat down onto his bed.

Alright. She could do this. Looking down to the data pad in her hands, she flicked it on, watching as the security screen popped up. She touched her hand to the screen, wincing as she felt it draw her blood, not expecting it when it spoke what she normally did. Suddenly her staff emerged, making her wince since she hadn't been prepared, holding it now in her hand. Bastards. But then the data pad spoke pleasantly, "DNA response correct. Please wait a moment." Nico didn't like this. She didn't like this one bit.

After a minute, both of her parents faces appeared on the screen, her features now impassive. She seethed at the sight of her mother, unable to forgive her for what she had done. "Mother." She said calmly, but with clear venom, "Father. What do you want?" She muttered, the hazel in her eyes growing darker so it almost was a very dark brown.

Her mother was the first to speak, a smile sliding across her face easily, adjusting the glasses on her nose. "Is that any way to greet us? It's been so long. But I know you." She sighed, looking to her husband who seemed tired. And perhaps pained. "We want you to come home. You can see we've grown more powerful. And we worry about you." Now she sighed, reaching a hand forward as if to brush the bangs from her daughters face, a holographic hand stretching out towards her. But of course her daughter pulled the data pad back farther. "We've already lost one child. I don't want-"

"Not that you helped with that. What inspired you to make a little clone army of him mother?" She snapped, narrowing her eyes, noting the fact her father seemed slightly surprised. "I somehow doubt it was for the sole reason of, "Oh I miss my little boy. I want him back with us." Not that you really knew him."

Her mother briefly seemed appalled. "Honey.... Please try to understand. We're trying to make this world a better place. A safer place for you and your friends. For everyone. No one can control everything. We all need to listen to a superior of some sort. Sacrifices have to be made for the greater good."

That was it. That was ******** it. "For the greater good?! How can you say that about your own son?! Was he just another test subject? A successful one which is the only thing that mattered?! I can't-" She felt the walls rattling from her anger, not noticing that the color of her eyes had now gone black. "You want to make a world where we are lulled into a false sense of peace. Where no one has will. Everyone might as well be dead." She muttered, trying to swallow her outrage.

As his wife appeared hurt and lowered her gaze, now her father stepped in, adjusting in his seat as he looked sadly to his eldest child. "Nico.... I know we sound heartless. I know our idea of a perfect world might not be shared by most but it really is for the best. Look at Asia. Iraq doesn't exist anymore. We just have a giant crater where most of the Middle East used to be. The Southern half of Africa is in quarantine while they fight each other and the disease that now resides there. Even our United States is trying to recover from the second Civil War. Humans are violent creatures. The world is in shambles darling. We're just trying to help it, preserve it, while we all recover. Alden really was ill. He was still our son. We still feel his loss." He said softly, shifting aside as his wife moved forward.

"I was ordered to replicate him. I would have preferred I left him be. I am not proud of things that I have done, but the bigger picture is what we must look to. We know the others are planning another attack on you. They have already synthesized another counter measure to another of your team members powers. We aren't sure who, but one of them. I've been holding off turning in anything I know of yours because I don't want them to harm you." She spoke quickly, glancing back.

Nico was at a loss. Quiet, she pondered what they had both said. Another one.... But who would it be? Closing her eyes, she remembered what her orders were. "Do you know when? I.... I'd have to think this over." She murmured, looking away from the two of them towards the bed on the other side of the room.

"One week from now. Take some time, think over what we have said. Please... come home. We miss you. You can use this datapad again when you want to give us an answer. We love you darling." He said softly, a faint, pained smile rising to his lips. His wife nodded beside him, suddenly getting up to leave. With that, the datapad went dark, leaving Nico to herself.

The data pad lowered to her lap, her staff feeling as if it pulsated before it vanished again into her chest. Wincing once more, she leaned her head back against the wall, a tear rolling down her cheek. God dammit. "Gladys?" She spoke, glancing to the computer in her room.

"Yes Sister Grimm?"

"Please relay a message to Catherine and Richard. Dreamer's will attack us in a weeks time. Also report this..." With that, she briefly gave a summary of their request and what she was thinking of doing. Still, she would speak with her team because they had a right to know and in case they wanted to add anything.

"Of course Sister Grimm. Message away. Is there anything else you need?"

Nico stared blankly at the distant wall, the numbness growing more intense. "No Gladys. That'll be all. Thank you." She answered softly, closing her eyes with a heavy sigh. She fell into a meditative state, though her senses were still alert in case someone knocked on the door, or in case she sensed something... off.

Drifting among the shadow. The darkness surrounding him. All around him. Engulfing him. Eating him. Digesting him. Regurgitating him. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. The shadow examined him. Questioned him. Understood him. Replicated him. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Drifitng. Floating. Darkness. Shadow. Nothing. Punishment. His punishment. Putting him through what he puts others through. His punishment. Their revenge. Revenge for sucking life out of them, slowly killing them. Slow and painful death. So he must suffer his entire life, to feel the pain for as long as they do. Punishment. The nothing is punishment. Punishment. Nothing. Darkness. Shadow.

Jane left his room after several minutes, walking around in the halls. After a minute, he felt an odd twinge of...emptiness coming from Roran's room. He knocked quietly, letting himself in. Looking at the older male, he really wanted to help him. Bring him out of that emptiness. Concentration. Happiness. Joy. Understanding. The emotions pulsed from Jane as he continued to concentrated.

His clear orange eyes filled with oddly joyful, bright sensations. A frown was across his face, completely contradicting his eyes. Breathing was scattered as he continued to concentrate. If this didn't have any effect, he might have to consult Nico.

Light. Light had penetrated the darkness. Light. Blinding light. He wanted to cover his eyes, and he would have, if he wasn't in a world of nothing. Brighter. Brighter. The darkness, the nothing, penetrated by light, by something. It filled the world of shadow. But then it was gone. Shut out by the nothing. Eaten by the nothing, just like him. For this was his punishment, and it took precedence over everything. His punishment. His darkness. His shadow. His world. His nothing.

His eyes opened, the first thing he noticed being Jane. "Who let you-" he stopped, seeing the ajar door. Ugh, he just can't help it but feel other's emotions. Damn kid. Sitting up, he rubbed his eyes. It had been a few hours. Not too bad. He felt rejuvenated, so he was fine. "What are you doin'?" he asked, looking at Jane with one eye.

Jane looked at Roran softly as he stood there. "Sorry...I'd...well...there was this..." He couldn't think of an explanation for it as he looked at Roran. Biting his lip gently, he looked at Roran.
