Now, on to something else.
I've recently wanted to start reading up on the works of Lovecraft, specifically the mythos involving of Cthulhu. Which novels of his should I start off reading with?
Off the top of my head:
Call of Cthulhu. Obviously.
The shadow over Innsmouth
Dagon
At the mountains of madness
Pickman's model
The Dunwich horror
The case of Charles Dexter Ward
He mostly wrote short stories, so you'd probably be best off getting a collection of those. There are a few really good collections out and since they're a few years old now, you should be able to get them for little more than a song and a dance now.
EDIT: The thing on the doorstep
The haunter of the dark
The lurking dear
The colour out of space (one of my favourites.
3nodding )
The whisperer in the darkness
If you want cinematic things based on Lovecraft, then most of them suck, really. The
Reanimator movies are okay, if only loosely based on ol' HP's stuff. You might want to try
In the mouth of madness. It's got some very Lovecraftian things in it and it's clearly inspired by quite a few of his stories, even if it's not actually based on any in particular. Pay special attention to the names of the novels in the book and see if any of them sound eerily familiar.
