Richards hold on him tightened as he hammered down on his back with his elbow out of anger. "I'd snap your spine in half..." he whispered threateningly in his ear. "The difference between Raquel and Lorey....Lorey's never killed anyone. Lorey's never had to result to selling herself to horny, sleezy men to make an easy buck. She's worked hard and long her whole life. So don't you dare compare her to Raquel." He hissed, his anger riding up. Though if he had been a bit calmer himself, he probably would have kept his mouth shut. he knew very well those words would either provoke him more or make him realize that Richard was right...which he highly doubted the second choice.

Damian gasped out in pain as Richard's elbow connected with his back. The pressure sent his ribs in a surge of fire, undoing a few mendings that had already taken place. His free legs scraped desperately against the floor to get away, but to no avail.
"'m done... I'm done!" he pleaded, hardly able to breathe with the pressure and pain.

"Richard, let him go!" Lorey said, scared half to death of what was happening. Damian was slipping, Richard was angry, and everyone else had gone.

Richard's eyes calmed almsot imediately, hearing Lorey's voice. He let go of damian, standing quickly. HE refused to meet anyone's eyes. He simply gave Damian a rough but simple kick to the leg before escorting himself out of the room, fishing throug his pockets again.

He managed to find the last empty room that had been reserved for him, though he found it ironic and odd he had yet to step foot in it. it was simple, white, but more masculine than the ladies rooms. He actually didn't even look around. He was too busy locating and lighting a cigarette. He inhaled deeply as he held the small white stick to his lips, trying to calm himself down. He hated that Lorey had to see him snap like that, but adding insult to injury with his smoking, he could hide.

With the way Richard left so suddenly, Lorey practically forgot about Damian. He was fine, he wasn't bleeding, just drunk... and besides, she had lost most respect for him. Instead, she followed Richard into the room, finding him in a veil of cigarette smoke.

"Richard," she said, swiftly walking to him. The small stick was poised for another puff before her hand took his wrist to stop him. Honestly, she hated the smell of the smoke all around and how it clung to his clothes, but Lorey could look past that. Standing on tip toe, she took his face between her splints and kissed him.

"New rule," she said, rather shakily. "Whenever you feel like you have to smoke, you kiss me. Kissing me doesn't kill you slowly..."

Richard didn't look at her. Nor did he budge when her lips touched his skin. He merely stared straight ahead, brow furrowed, eyes intense but distant at the same time. "L-lorey...could...c-could I have a moment alone...just for a minute..." He said, his voice rather shaky itself. He refused to look at her, he simply lifted his also shaking hand and took another nervous puff.

And Lorey took another kiss from him.
"I don't want you to die simply because you get nervous... I'll leave you alone, I will, but not with that thing."
Even with that being said, Lorey slowly put her arms down, taking a step away. She didn't know what to say after all of that. But watching him smoke was too frightening, and she knew too well from her mother that smoking was a terrible addiction.
"...unless you want me to..." she mumbled. Lorey padded towards the door, stopping for just a moment in case there was a small window for a breakthrough. "At least... open a window... this isn't our house after all."

Richard seemed to blink awake, nodding his agreement. He managed to make his way to the opposite side of the room where he opened one of the few windows that let some light in. He sat on the sill and tried to calm himself down. He hated getting that angry and didn't want to go that dark place he knew he had.

Lorey watched him open the window. Poor Richard, she thought to herself. Just as she had her problems, he had so many more.
"I love you," she called out, before leaving him with the subtle click of the door.

Lorey made her way back into the kitchen where Damian had passed out on the floor.
"Honestly," she mumbled. Every single day had to have some dramatic thing happen, and before noon, no less. With a little grumble, Lorey went out into the living room where she fetched a small pillow off the couch. Making her way back into the kitchen, Lorey managed to life Damian's head off the ground just enough to slip it underneath. There, she thought. At least someone would be comfortable.

It was an odd sight then, to have a passed out man on the floor while a lovely woman made toast and had the kitchen pour her orange juice. Lorey hummed a pretty tune under her breath, wondering what Richard would want once he calmed down...

Richard was getting to the end of his cigarette, feeling more and more guilty at the thought of how badly he needed it. Working in the police force was hard. For any man.
The things you witness on a daily basis are enough to harden a man. Richard had been blessed with Rose who helped him through most of it. But there were somethings even she couldn't fix let a lone understand. Richard didn't like the things he had picked up from the academy or from on the job training. He knew 6 ways to kill a man with one hand a lone. He never wanted to use a one. He had also developed a slight temper with certain types over the years, mostly rubbing off on him from other lower cops with strong prejudices. He was young and impressionable in the force so anything negative he was exposed to stuck to him. He knew this to be true and never denied it. Maybe that was why he was so hard on Damian and Raquel. They were both types that he had learned to loathe over the years.

Smoking too had been one of those habits he had just picked up. That and drinking...and fighting...
The fighting he did for fun when he was a boy, but in his old age *lol* he had just resorted to drinking. Though smoking seemed to stay consistent. Any time he became unnerved or felt that he was about to endanger someone's life by his actions, he would light one up. And almost immediately he would be ok. This became a crutch for him and apparently still was.

Within the amount of time Richard had spent alone, Lorey had ordered up a regular breakfast. There were pancakes hot from the automated griddle, sausages, orange juice, toast...
It made her feel happy to know she was making something for them both, even as Damian lay on the floor.

While the eggs were being made, Lorey dared to turn around and look at him.
"Poor man," she muttered. She remembered the days when Damian was a proud, clean-cut aristocrat with a code of honor like steel. He would chastise and publicly humiliate anyone he found guilty of a commoner's crime... he had let her watch a ball from one of the private balconies once, so long as she stayed hidden. One night, he had let her stay in a private room because she nearly passed out on the job. And yet, for all that, she could still see him for what he was and would not let him get close to her.

Now look at how close we are.
So close that she could see the dark circles under his eyes, the bruises upon his face, the bindings peeking out from under his shirt...

It was too much. Lorey skitted away to Richard's room. She knocked, cracked open the door slightly, and without peeking in, said, "There's food."
And walked right back to the kitchen. It was difficult, and felt cold, but... well, somehow she knew it was how she needed to be.

Richard had just finished off his cancer stick and seemed to nod, even though he knew quite well she couldn't see it. After taking a few deep breaths, he went to join her in the kitchen.
Upon entering, he saw what a spread she had whipped up and forced a smile. "Looks amazing." He said, trying to pretend that everything was fine and dandy with the world.

"Amazing what a good kitchen can do..."
Because she surely had only pressed buttons and waited for everything to turn out.
But instead of digging into the food, Lorey went to Richard. Her finger tips did their best to hold his hands. For a moment, she just looked at him.

"Will you be alright?" she asked, though the question was more general. Would he be alright? Would that happen again?
Lorey kept looking at him with her big, blue eyes.

Richard sighed, looking up at the ceiling a moment before meeting her gaze. "I...really don't know..." He said with all honesty. "I wish I could tell you different...God I wish...But...I just can't...." He looked sad and dissapointed in himself as he gazed in to the vast ocean of love and concern that was Lorey's eyes.

Lorey looked down for a moment at Damian. With a little huff, she let go of one of his hands to point at the sleeping drunk.
"That is not your fault. He's slipping in standards... we should just dump all the booze, I swear."
It didn't even pass her mind that such a hasty reaction would leave Richard a bit distressed. She just took her fingers to his cheeks, holding them as best she could.
"I'll help you... just like you help me. Just say what I need to do to help you get better, and I'll do it. I promise, Richard."

HE looked at her long and hard with loving, appreciative eyes. "Dove...There are just some things you can't fix. You either have to let them be or wait for them to go away on their own..." He assured quietly. Rose had hated him smoking so much, she wouldn't allow it in the house. Richard found himself many a night on the balcony, or the roof, alone. He'd walk on water for Rose, just as he would for Lorey. But smoking was something he couldn't just drop...no matter how much he loved them. It was something that would take time.
