Flint watched as Ashe stepped forward, thankful that someone had taken initiative in this. He wasn't going to stand quietly the whole time.
He watched the king's adviser walk forward and whisper something in his ear. Flint read his lips, and didn't like what he could make out.
He couldn't say anything though, and hoped his companions had made the same observations that he did. He nervously rapped his fingers against his thigh, giving another pathetic, nervous cough.

Ashe met Mike's eyes as she heard what the advisor whispered into the king's ear. She shook her head slightly, she wanted to wait for what the king said before she made her move. She also didn't like what she saw on the adviser's forehead. That symbol...where have I seen it before?

~

The king stroked his chin. He was watching the motley crew in front of him shuffle as if they knew what his advisor was saying. He stood up and walked down until he was level with the group. "You do realize that many have taken this quest. All have died or disappeared. Your target is a demon, and a strong one at that." He looked the whited haired girl in the eyes. "You are young, I do not want to place you in danger, unless you can prove that you can handle yourself." He walked back to his throne and raised his hand, the guards around the room stood at attention. The king signaled the guards to attack the group, which they moved to do so.

~

Ashe sighed and unsheathed her swords. She whispered to Mike, "Don't show your true form until the Paladins move. As we are we can handle the guards." She then smiled. "Unless you want to scare the guards so we can get straight to the Paladins."

"What!" Flint finally said in outrage, as the guards moved in. "This is insane, who's to say you're not going to lock us up after this for treason?" he added, stepping back.
A ball of energy appeared around his hand, a swirling ball of blue-white energy that constantly shifted, not keeping a single form, until it finally began to grow into a large sword, even for a gnome.
Except it weighed nothing.
He held it out in front of him, looking as fierce as a three-foot tall guy could look. It didn't stop two of the guards. They came in, swords raised.
Flint ran forward, swiping in a wide arc ahead of him. The sword smashed into the left guard's ankle, breaking it and knocking him down. This sword had no sharp edges but it still could pack a punch. It just missed the right guard, who ran right past Flint.

((Aaaah, nothin' beats stretching the good ol' wings again))
The moment Mike heard the word 'unless', he gently rested his hand on his sword. He listened to Ashe's directions, a little angry that she didn't want him to take the group out as a demon. Yet he grew a smile right after she did. He'd be glad to thin out the ranks. After all, he had a mean roar when he was a demon.

Two guards rushed towards Mike, both wielding standard guard swords. Bulky and slightly on the heavy side. Perfect for a quick, agile half-elf. As they got close, Mike dashed forward and leapt straight up, delivering a kick to the side of the left guards head, while his sword was drawn and he knocked the guard on the right out with it's blunt side. When he landed, he thrust his sword straight into the air before slamming it into the ground infront of him.

"You say our target is a strong demon..." Mike said as he bowed his head. "Well...then that at least makes our group even with his." He raised his arms into an 'X' formation, shaking them as he made a small circle of black flames surround his feet. The fire grew, and a black seal shot out from him and touched the sides of the walls. This was mearly for show, and it worked since most of the guards stared at him and backed away. As Mike lifted his arms over his head, the flames completely engulfed him. "This, is my true power Your Majesty." He said, his voice now having his demonic growl.

His left hand was the first thing to leave the flames, grabbing his sword. His wings shot out of the sides, expanded to their fullest extent. He drew his sword, the flames instantaniously extinguishing. He crouched to the floor and faced the rest of the normal guards. With a slight growl, he drove his hands into the ground. Like a wild beast he fell into the pounce position, his wings folded behind his back. With a quick snap of his head, he extended his legs and roared, his wings opening and rising towards the sky while flames flowed from his hands onto the floor a few feet infront of him.

In less then ten seconds, there was a loud clattering sound as swords hit the ground and armored footsteps left the hall, all of them adding up to the screams of grown men. Mike stood up and scratched his nose with the back of his right thumb. He did a good job at clearing out the guards. Now all that was left was the paladins and their damned blessed weapons and spells. Mike gripped his sword. He couldn't affort a direct hit from a holy weapon. No signs of weakness could be showed. After all, this allies may one day become his enemies, and to know how to kill him was the last thing he wanted them to know.

Nixe kept on for a short while, and finally, her trail ended at a grand castle. She didn;t understand what force had brought her here. It was just something... that happened. She was allowed in without any hesitation when she showed the guard a tear-shaped gemstone. The crest of her family. The stone had millions of shining facets that seemed to glow in the sky.

Straighter her path went on, until finally, there was a large, ornamented door in front of her. She could hear a commotion within, but it would not give too her push. Something led her on, something told her she had to get in. On the belt, the little creature sang.

One spell of entrance later, the doors swung open, and she found the people she'd least to expect to see in the world. And they were facing a group of armed paladins, and apparently, the king.

In a second, the staff raised in a defensive position. Now that she was here, she had not a clue what to do with herself, and Isk began to headbutt the glass, as if pleading to get out.

Out of the guards that had left, only one remained, still engaged with Flint. He was so intent on keeping that furious gnome away from him that he hadn't noticed Mike's transformation.
Flint didn't either. He was focused, swinging away wildly at the guard, getting his "sword" batted away every time, however, each time it was weaker and weaker, until finally the guard's poorly made short sword went flying, clattering away down the hall.
At that point, they both noticed Mike's transformation. Flint was faster to recover.
The guard was blasted full across the hall with the force of the blow, the chaos energy that made it up adding to it. Flint turned around slowly, looking for new enemies.
All that was left was the Paladins. Not good. He continued his turn, seeing Nixe standing near the door. He grinned.
"Hey, I knew you'd be back. Can't resist me, can you?" he joked. He wondered how this uptight elf would take THAT.

Ashe laughed silently to herself as she watched the guards run from Mike. She turned her head to the king and saw the shock on his face. She took two steps forward and bowed. "Does that prove our strength to you? Will you allow us to take your quest?"
~

The King couldn't say anything. Never in his life had he seen a demon, nor one that traveled with others. When the girl, apparently the leader of this group spoke he snapped out of his shock and yelled at the Paladins, "What are you waiting for? Kill that demon! Kill him!"

~

Ashe sighed. This is why I didn't want Mike showing off his form... She closed her eyes and took her true form, curling her tail around her friends and crouching in the narrow room. She eyed the Paladins, daring them to come closer. "I had hoped that it would not come to this," she said softly to the King. "But I am Ashe Windsong, Daughter of Adrock Windsong, leader of the Wind Dragons. My people have had a peaceful relationship with yours. I would not let a demon into my group unless I trusted him, as I do this one. With him as our ally we have a better chance at completing this quest than the others before us."
~

The King looked up at the Dragon and nodded. She spoke the truth. "Hold your weapons," he said to the Paladins. To the group he said, "I am sorry. I acted in hast. I give you my permission to take this quest." He walked down the steps and stood a respectful distance from Mike and said, "Demon, I do not understand why you are here, but seeing as you never did lay a finger on my guards, I may have misjudged you." He bowed. "Please take my apology."

~

Shiango snarled. "s**t. That damned Dragon. She's gone and ruined my planes again." He stalked out of the room and slammed the door, knocking the crystal of it's pedestal. It fell onto the floor and shattered into countless pieces. The broken image of the group flickering in the shards before disappearing.

Mike saw that Ashe found humor in watching the guards run. He himself had smiled at the site, though that may not have been such a great idea as a demon. It could have had the wrong effect. As Mike eyed the paladins and the king, he realized that the king was not thinking about accepting their offer. Especially when he put an order on his life. Mike gently tossed his sword into his right hand and swung it backwards so it would face downwards. He had to fight both defensively and quickly. One blow would lead to plenty more.

Then Ashe suprised him. Mike was still the size of an average teenager in both forms, so his transformation didn't have any area restrictions. Ashe however was a fairly large dragon. Mike jumped over her tail as she transformed and had to duck under her wing before she settled into a crouched position. He was standing next to her when her tail surrounded him. He smiled as he heard her say that she trusted him. He had forgotten what it was like to have friends, and it felt good to have some again. Mike glanced down at Flint. He may not have been the most powerful person around, but he was still a friend, and one Mike could depend on.

Mike's smile faded as the king walked up to him. The distance he stood at made Mike's face change into one disappointment. Why did he stand so far away? It wasn't like he had hurt anyone...well, much. He listened to the king's words. When the king had stopped, Mike glanced off to the side.

"I am a demon with a pure soul. Most of the other demons are filled with sin, but I am also filled with virtue. I have a few memories from the time I was alive, and I wish to regain those. There is also another reason." Mike rose his left hand, and a small orb of black flames appeared. "I have enough power to level cities and take on foes much more powerful than I should be. I'm a threat to all that lives, or that would be the case if I did not feel remorse and sorrow for my misdeeds. Whoever summoned me has more power than I do, and therefore, they must be dealt with before they act and destroy. Your appology is both appreciated and accepted, but do not think ill of me. I am a demon with an angel's soul, the Black Angel, Nero Angelo."

Mike cursed at himself inside for rhyming, but he was glad to get all of that out. He had many reasons to fight, and now that the king knew about it, he would surely think differently of him...or so he hoped.

Flint turned on the Paladins, about to attack, but was blocked off by a large leg. He took a few steps back as the sword in his hands disappeared in a flash.
Flint climbed his way out from behind Ashe, even going so far as to climb up her tail and over her back end, down her leg, just so he could get away from the wall.
He landed next to Mike, a little winded, just in time to hear his speech. Once he was finished, Flint grinned.
"Nice speech, Captain Depressed. I think it could have been more poetic though. Maybe a bit of dark and dreary, too. You know, tug at his heartstrings a little." he said, laughing. He was getting into a habit of poking fun at Mike's seemingly perpetual depression, or at least gloominess.
He moved his hand in a strange pattern and began to levitate, floating somewhere around eye-level with the king, mostly because he hated looking up at people, and hated the feeling of being looked down on, especially by those that just ordered him to be killed.

Ashe looked over at Flint as he climbed over her. "Sorry." She cocked her head at the King's reluctance to get closer to Mike. Humans must have an ingraned fear of demons... she thought.

~

The King nodded. "I see." He stepped forward and extended his hand to Mike. "I offer my hand in peace, Nero Angelo. If there is any help you need on this quest please tell me, I'll do my best to help you."

Mike drew all of his energy inside him. If he hadn't and shook hands with the king, it was possible to release some of the energy and bring harm to him, something that was not good to do when you were trying to get people to believe and trust in you. Mike shook the king's hand and nodded at his offer.

"I am not the one you should be giving an offer to. For you see, our dear Ashe Windsong here leads our group. She is the one who knows how we should go about our journey, and I trust her judgement."

Mike had meant every word he said. Ashe was very dependable and came up with very good plans. She was smart to let Mike transform, and even smarter to transform herself at the right time. Too soon or too late, and they could have been killed. Mike turned his head to her and smiled.

"No worries." Flint assured Ashe when she apologized to him. "I'm used to climbing over things much larger than me. A warning would be appreciated though." he said, not trying to be mean, and even giving her a grin to show he wasn't annoyed.
He listened to Mike talk to the King, and cleared his throat rather loudly...well, as loudly as he could.
"Ah, excuse me?" he asked, waving his hand.
"Yeah, the guy down here." a paladin gave Flint a look. Flint returned the glare. "What, never seen a gnome before? Anyways, yeah. I think you owe the others of us an apology, too." he said with a hint of annoyance.
Having never dealt with others of higher stature, Flint was however fairly sure he just insulted the king.
Oh well, sucks to be him then.

The king looked at Flint. "It seems I do." He bowed to the gnome. "I am sorry for putting your life in danger." He then turned to Ashe and repeted the question he posed to Mike. "Is there anything that I can do to help you on your quest?"

~

Ashe flicked her tail, thinking of what may be needed. "We have thread, needles, and cloth...We might need some food for the journey, there could be places that game is hard to find." She shook her head. "Just provisions and can we leave by the large balcony? We would like to shortly and the fastest way is flying." She closed her eyes and took her human form.

~

The king nodded and made the orders to show the group to the large balcony that the dragon's use to come and go, and to pack enough provisions to last them two months. The servants quickly went to the duties and the king looked at the motly crew. "Godspeed to you. And may you come back alive."

"Hmph." Mike gently laughed at the king's words. 'Godspeed' to a demon, ironic in a way. As they began to walk towards the balcony, Mike saw one of the soldiers struggling to juggle a large pack that was full of food and other items. "Here, I've got it." Mike said as he walked up to him. He grabbed the large bag with one hand and held it like it was as light as a brick. The soldier stared in awe at Mike's sheer brute force. His power was that of a well-toned giant and was suprising by his human size.

"Is everything in here?" Mike asked as he held the bag on his shoulder. "Y-yes, everything is." The soldier stuttered. Mike smiled and said thanks as he walked towards the group again. Mike had to carry the bag carefully, as it would conflict with his wings if worn on his back. Mike belted the bag closed so it wouldn't open in mid-flight and hoisted it over his shoulder. For now Mike would do what Ashe wanted him to. She was on better terms with the king and easier on the eyes in her forms than Mike was. That, and dragons weren't known for destroying mortals in cruel and torturous ways like demons were.
