Kirin sighed, like he didn't want to answer, but he opened his mouth to speak anyway. "I used to be the clan leader," he began. "Jace took power a while back, and shortly after I led a revolt to try and get back my power. I was exiled after the revolt failed, and Jace asked for an assurance that I wouldn't do it again. I gave him Sanvi under the agreement that if it happened again she would die."

"More or less," Kirin said, shrugging. "There has been one time I've ever needed her, and that was when the twins were born. Their mother died in childbirth and Sanvi could have taken care of them. Other than that, she had no use to me, but then it was already too late. She'd been with Jace for a few years by then."

Garin looked down at the ground and then swiftly punched the man in the face.

Kirin took the punch but then kicked out at Garin to knock him back, hopfully into some furniture.

Garin stumbled back and then crouched low to the ground and chranged at Kirin.

Kirin waited until Garin got close and then sidestepped. He used magic to try and freeze Garin where he stood.

Garin was quick to redirect and swiped at Kirin's knee, stepping under the attack.

Kirin's knee crumpled but he put his weight on his other leg. He used a broader attack to try and stop Garin.
Sanvi hoped her father would be gone and was heading back to the room.

Garin came up from under him and tried to slam him in the stomach to distract him from the spell.

Kirin let Garin's attack hit him, and he stumbled back.
Sanvi saw this, and gasped. "Garin, papa, stop it now!" she screamed. She used very powerful magic to freeze Kirin and try to freeze Garin.

Garin punched him one time in the face before Sanvi's magic took hold.

Sanvi ran for them, paused, looking between the two: then she ran to Garin and made sure he wasn't injured.

Sanvi moved away from Garin and went to her father. "Papa?" she asked. She turned to Garin again. "What did you do to him?" she demanded. "Why did you attack him?!"
