Nye shifted about a bit and crossed his legs indian-style underneath him. It was story time, so he may as well settle down into comfort for a little while. "Well," he started, "Ivie and I planned a shopping spree today, and as I went to the bathroom, she was let off by her abusive ex-boyfriend into an employee-only corridor while I was blocked off from leaving the washroom by one of his buddies."
After cleverly utilizing the door, he ran off to inquire people and beat the shits out of Butch.
"I used a door from a bathroom stall to knock him unconscious, then asked some passerby if they saw the living hulk and Ivie, and someone pointed me in the right direction. When I walked in, the brute she was actually assaulted by had her up against the wall, and she passed out before I could do anything. I bluffed a little and got him to turn around and drop the girl, then knocked him out with a bit of good aim."
It sounded believeable, right? Nye sighed, watching the steam from his breath go up nonchalantly, without a care in the world. Man, they could start a bruise club, now.

As Nye talked, the policeman took notes and nodded occasionally. It did sound believeable and Nye's voice didn't waver or break as he thought of a lie, and he was used to hearing the unbelieveable. "And what relationship do you and Miss Ivie have?" If it was a spat between the ex and current boyfriend, the policeman could very well believe it.
Before Nye had a chance to reply, Barry appeared out of the back door with a rather woozy, hand-cuffed Butch being pushed in front of him. It was rather amusing to see the mamoth of a man so tamed by a simple pair of hand-cuffs and a policeman. The can of pepper-spray at Barry's waist, however, told a different story.
"Tried to hit me, this one." He said gruffly, shoving Butch into the back of the policecar. I've called another car and cuffed the other one. I'll take these two, you wait for the meds."
An abulence rolled into the carpark, right on cue. Ivie had yet to stir.

Nye attempted to hide his smug grin, but the situation was just too much. The policeman with the moustache seemed to be believing him, and as if on cue 'Barry' was leading Butch out of the door. Priceless.
"We're good friends," Nye answered finally as Butch was seated in the back seat of the police car. The ambulance pulling up was a good sign, but Ivie still wasn't awake. Did he really choke her that bad?

"Friends." The policeman repeated, writing it down. "I'll have to ask you to come down to the station for identification and a few more questions."
The meds had jumped out of their van and were proceeding to check Ivie over, mostly fingering her neck and face. They were moving efficiently yet not in a hurry, a good sign. "She's just out cold, officer." One of the medics said, standing to releive the cramp in his legs. "She'll be in mild shock when she wakes up though she won't need to come into the hospital. Better to send her home."
The officer seemed to pause a little, before sighing. "We'll take her down to the station too. Any idea when she'll wake up?"
A quiet groan from Ivie as another medic prodded her neck caught their attention, and the first medic smiled a little. "I think she's waking up now. Don't question her immidiately, she'll be confused."

Nye set his hands on the ground and pushed up into a standing position, uncrossing his legs once he was up. "I've got no problem with that." Casual as ever, he dusted off his pea coat and shoved his hands in his pockets, awaiting further instructions.
Of course, that's when Ivie woke up.
About time, Nye thought in relief. There was little he could do but wait, the last thing the poor girl remembered was snogging a mammoth, and now here they were. Paramedics, policemen, and an overenthusiastic old lady with an umbrella.
Amusing, if you thought about it right.

One of the strangest experiences in your life is waking up and seeing someone hovering over you from work. Disorientated, Ivie blinked, not realising her hands were shaking ever so slightly.
"Matilda?" She croaked, confused and looking around. Something seemed to click. "Nye, where's Nye? Is he okay?" Or that's what she tried to say. How it actually sounded was a slightly gurgly but panicked.

Nye let out a calm chuckle and crossed his arms, shivering slightly. He only then realized just how cold it was outside. Damned winter. "I'm fine," he called out. "Glad I'm the first thing you worry about, and not that giant bruise on your neck, Miss Callaghan."
Hey, you never know. Perhaps sarcasm could cheer her up.
Seeing as the situation was unfolding, the old lady just looked confused. "So you mean you didn't attack her?" She inquired, an apology laced through her tone. "Apparently not," Nye answered. He was smiling, and the woman took that as a sign of everything being okey-dokey for the time being.

At the sound of Nye's voice, Ivie relaxed a little, flopping back down onto the cool ground. Her neck and face ached like anything but if Nye was alrigh, everything was fine. She could take a little pain. Despite Matilda's protests, Ivie sat up, dizzy, looking for the man.
"What did...why am I outside?" Poor thing looked completely lost. The policeman here took over, moving over and helping Ivie to her feet.
"Easy there, Miss..>Callaghan, was it? You've just had a nasty scare but it's alright now. We're going down to the station." Ivie's little spiel seemed to have put Nye in the clear, and the policeman nodded to the car. "Mr Hemmingway, if you would." Ivie was gently pushed into the other side seat, a blanket being draped around her shoulders. She wasn't cold but, like before, she was shivering violently. She didn't even notice it.

With a shake of the head at Ivie's confusion, Nye slid into the passenger seat calmly. "Talk about a shopping trip gone wrong," he said. Still, there was some weird satisfaction in seeing Butch handcuffed and driven downtown.
Not so much in seeing Ivie hurt, though. His lips pulled down into a bit of a frown once he saw her hands trembling visibly, and how bad the bruise on her neck was starting to get. Scarf shopping was a definite, if they ever got the chance.
Now all they really had to hope for was for Butch to stay in there for a little while and to possibly convince Ivie to apply for a restraining order. It honestly did sound like a good idea, and Nye began to wonder why she hadn't done so already.

A shallow, shakey bark of a laugh followed Nye's joke, but the smile didn't stay long. Instead, Ivie tugged the blanket further around herself and closed her eyes, letting her head loll back onto the headrest. How on earth did this keep happening to her? Twice in one week. It was too much, it really was. She made to speak and a choked sound came out. She swallowed, blinking back a few tears, before managing to get what she meant to say out this time.
"Perhaps...it would be better if you didn't stay around me, with this stuff keeping happening it's just not safe for you and...and..." She didn't want to burst out crying on poor Nye again.
The policeman, thankfully, kept silent in the front seat.

Nye didn't mean it. Honest, he really didn't, but he couldn't help just... laughing. It got the officer in the front seat to raise a brow, but obviously Hemmingway found something to be extremely amusing. As his laughter wound down to a chuckle, Nye sighed. "You're a very interesting person, Ivie, but I've had worse after me than a walking mammoth."
Deliberately leaving out the part about owning a gun, Nye turned his attention to the officer. "Officer," he called out, "You wouldn't happen to have a box of tissues, would you?" The only thing he was concerned about was Ivie's health. Truth.

Ivie had flinched at the laughter, curling her legs up onto the chair in what seemed like an effort to hide herself. Of course it didn't work but the girl was on edge. Anything might set her off right now.
"But...but it's my fault and I don't want you hurt more...those bruises...Butch did them...I know..."
She trailed off, sniffing. A few tears escaped her and she scrubbed them furiously, smudging her makeup onto her sleeve.

"It's not your fault. You think my bruises are bad? I wonder what his entire midsection looks like right now." Did he bruise? When Nye punched him, it felt a bit more like rock than carbon-based being. Still, it was hard to believe that Nye had left no marks on Butch whatsoever. Being an ex-boxer and rather mad when he made the attempts, anyways...
Ahem. Nye reached over timidly and put his arm around Ivie's shoulders, giving the far one a comforting pat. "Don't worry about me, I'm gonna help you get this mess cleared up. Bruises go away, but stalkers and their habits die down hard." Not that Nye was ever stalked, per se, but there were people who just didn't like to leave him alone...

Butch did bruise, Ivie had seen the marks on his face Nye left. That Nye had been in a bruise-up with Butch over her made her feel terrible. She was such a pest, she really was, and a terrible person to let Nye keep doing things like this for her. Gods, she was horrible.
Never the less, when Nye's arms went around her, Ivie went into cling mode. She tugged herself closer, much like she had a few days earlier, and just latched onto him. She wasn't crying, not yet, but her voice shook with witheld sobs.
"You don't have to, you don't, why do you care you don't have to do this for me you really don't God I'm sorry." Most of that was unintelligle, but the general message would have been clear.

Nye tried to make out whatever was said into his jacket, and it was something about Ivie doubting her self-worth and apologizing again. It was really weird, the way she did that, because in Nye's opinion she was totally worth a couple of bruises or something. He didn't mind getting hurt.
The hand that was around Ivie's shoulders pulled the girl slightly closer to Nye, but not because he was trying to make a move, gods no. He just kinda felt it was necessary, seeing as she was on the verge of tears and all. That police station better have hot cocoa or he'd definitely complain to someone about it. Cocoa is the ultimate comfort drink.
