Professor Inky "Yeah. I'm not very adventurous. I stick to good old beef stew," Ethin said as he closed his menu and placed it on the table. "Yes, we came here almost every time we came to Cairhien. She always went to the run-down inns which always seemed to foul her so I brought her to more cultured places." Ethin nodded over the waitress and told her his order and waited for Kiae to do the same. Kiae told the woman her order and waited until the woman had left before turning her attention back to Ethin. "I've grown so used to living in run-down inns and homes to avoid attracting attention," Kiae said with a short laugh. "Culture is something that I rarely have time for anymore, so this is most certainly a nice change of pace. I appreciate you taking me here," she added with another smile.

"Anything for you," Ethin said with a smile in return. His head nodded in time with the music he just realized was playing in the far corner of the room. A short, stubby flutist and a tall, lean harpist were playing an upbeat tune. Ethin scratched at the short beard that found home on his chin in the past few days while in thought. "Ah, Kiae. There was something I had been meaning to ask you," Ethin said in a near mumble. "What will the bedding arrangements be? The innkeeper will probably ask once we finish eating." Ethin looked up at her shyly, not really knowing what her response would be.

Ethin looked up at her shyly, not really knowing what her response would be. Kiae glanced up at him, having been watching the musicians intently. It had been a long while since she had had the opportunity to listen to music while relaxing and it was pleasant. She took a moment to process the question before shrugging. "I'll leave that up to you, Ethin. Whatever will be available will be fine," she said. "I've grown used to sleeping in all kinds of places - I'm honestly not that picky about it anymore." She laughed, then peered at him. "You really should shave. You look like a beggar with that stubble," she remarked.

"I will shave it when things are settled in our room. I will go for a new blade in the morning though because mine is getting rather dull." Ethin looked over his shoulder and found that the waitress was approaching them with a tray of food. He could see the steam rising from the bowl of stew, and as she came closer, could smell the sweet aroma. His stomach loudly growled its approval of the approaching meal. Ethin smiled as she placed the bowl in front of him and she winked in response. Ethin's smile faded and he felt awkward so he focused his attention on the steaming bowl in front of him. Just as he was about to dig in, he stopped, spoon just above the bowl, and looked up. "I forgot my manners," Ethin admitted shyly after the waitress walked away. "I can't eat until you do."

Professor Inky "I forgot my manners," Ethin admitted shyly after the waitress walked away. "I can't eat until you do." Kiae blinked in surprise, not having expected that remark. She smiled at him, shaking her head before beginning to eat so he could. After a few bites, she looked back up at him. "Don't stand on formality with me, Ethin. Unless I tell to do or not to do something, you may consider it fair game. That goes for eating, as well," she added with a raised brow. Her own food tasted just as good as it smelled, something which she was grateful for, and she found she had ate half of her plate before she even realized it. Taking a breath, she sat back a little in her chair. "This is most certainly one of the best meals I've had in a long time," she remarked.

After he was about halfway through his stew, he paused and looked up and found that Kiae had eaten more than her. "I assured you this place was good! The menu just seems a tad misleading," Ethin said between spoonfuls. He quickly finished off the last half of his stew and patted his mouth with his napkin and sighed gratefully. "You can never go wrong with stew," Ethin said as he patted his stomach lightly. After a short pause, Ethin went on, "And I think it would be more... economical if we shared a bed." Ethin tried to avoid eye contact. He was like a youthful teenager in many ways especially due to his shyness.

Professor Inky After a short pause, Ethin went on, "And I think it would be more... economical if we shared a bed." Ethin tried to avoid eye contact. He was like a youthful teenager in many ways especially due to his shyness. The woman took this remark in stride; she hadn't quite expected it, but it did make sense from a monetary point of view. She calmly finished eating, having only a few bites left, before making any reply. "That does make sense," she finally agreed, peering at him for a moment before having mercy and looking back at her empty plate. "If we're going to Saldea, we'll need to save all the money we can. I don't intend on using another Gateway with that strange Darkfriend lingering around," she added. Another moment passed and she couldn't help but smile. "Do you want me to speak to the innkeeper about the room?" she asked.

Color Me Fubar "Do you want me to speak to the innkeeper about the room?" she asked. "Before we go, I can stop at my banker's house and pick up some gold for the journey. I inherited quite a bit from my family and kept a good deal of the inheritance at banks in major cities for occasions such as this," Ethin said as he waved over the waitress for their plates. He handed her two silver crowns from his pocket and returned his attention to Kiae. Ethin cleared his throat before speaking. "Perhaps. I mean, if you would like," Ethin said, stammering over his words.

I mean, if you would like," Ethin said, stammering over his words. "I have plenty in reserve from the Tower, but I like to make sure I have plenty for an emergency. I've had to use quite a bit for medical attention once or twice," she said wryly. It had been for herself, as she couldn't heal her own injuries, and it had been an embarrassing experience. She nodded at his stammered plea and rose to her feet, brushing out her skirts. "All right, I'll return in a moment," she assured him, heading towards the main room of the inn where the man from earlier should be. Sure enough, he was at a counter entering numbers into a book - she interrupted him with well-timed cough to make him jump in surprise. "Ah, milady, I didn't see you there!" he began, looking at her. "And how was your meal?" "It was excellent, thank you. I'd like to reserve a room for myself and my traveling companion. One bed will be adequate," she continued unabashed. He stared at her for a moment before turning to his ledger, making a mark somewhere. "Of course, milady. Just let me know when you're ready to retire and I'll have Hila show you to your room," he assured her, with all the nervousness and calm Aes Sedai could create in a man. "Thank you," she replied, gracing him with a courteous nod before returning to Ethin and sitting down. "It's done," she said with a pleased smile.

Kiae listened for a few moments before her gaze returned to Ethin, who seemed to be going to sleep on the table itself. She smiled to herself - he was very handsome, even if a bit straggly at the moment - and she got to her feet once again. "Come along, time to get you to bed," she said softly, as if speaking to a child. She took his arm gently and tugged him to his feet, a relatively-easy task since he wasn't sleeping quite yet. She nodded to a woman nearby and followed her to the stairs, Ethin moving along sleepily. "It's up the stairs to the left, milady. Second door," the girl told her, handing her a thick key to the room. "Thank you," Kiae replied, with a small smile before heading up the stairs, going slowly so the man wouldn't trip and bring them both tumbling down. The key turned easily and the door opened, revealing a small yet comfortable room, with a large bed on one end and a bath on the other.

He straightened his stance, carrying all his own weight rather than weighing down Kiae. Looking around, he saw a vanity with a washbasin beside the bathtub. Reaching in his beltpouch, he found his blade and walked slowly to the sink. "I really must get rid of this beard. I'm not able to wear one well like Perrin Aybara," Ethin said, half aware of what he was doing and saying.

"Are you sure you should try to shave half-asleep?" she remarked, but decided not to press too much on the man. They tended to be touchy when questioned about their capabilities, she knew. Shrugging and keeping an eye on him, she went and sat on the bed with a relieved sigh, finding it soft and warm.

Ethin stooped over, the washbasin much to low for a man of his height, and splashed the surprisingly warm water on his face. He felt rejuvenated and awake. Swiftly, he removed his face of the wretched beard and within a few minutes his face was soft and free of unnecessary hairs. Ethin laid down his razor blade on the basin, removed his cloak, and placed it on the hook beside the tub. He turned and found Kiae lounging on the bed. He settled himself beside her and idly drummed his finger against his leg.

"Well, I'm surprised you didn't cut your throat, but you look much better," she informed him, leaning over to pull her boots off with another sigh of relief. The day was beginning to catch up to her and she was more sore than she would admit. "What I wouldn't give for another Healer around. I'm sure even Esole would be able to manage this," she thought absently, letting her braid down from her head and beginning to unwind it as she normally did.
