Lily stood there, watching the 'fight' go back and forth. She was puzzled, and waited for the answer to the 'farmer and his talking animals' question. Hmm...I wonder what that answer could be...

Marketa smirked and leaned toward Wendy conspiratorially. "Actually, I do not know what it is. My Da told it to me years ago, and won't tell me de answer!" she said before sticking her tongue out.

Mar laughed at Wendy's indignation. "I know! 'e's terrible, is he not?" she agreed. "'e always did dat to me when I was little gerl. When I was little, he played trick on my mudder, too! I had been running around in a muddy pond in new frock, so he took me into bedroom, and hit bed wit 'is belt and told me to scream like I was being beaten. Mum came running in like tragic hero, and called Da a jackass when he saw that I was laughing more den crying!" By the end of her story she was giggling reminiscently.

((my grandpa actually did that with my dad and his sisters, and my grandma did call him an a**. xd ))
Mar grinned even as a wistful sadness formed in her eyes. "He was when I was little. But den we moved to city, and he was always working. No time for stories or games; he gets too tired now what wit bot' work and my d-s-sister." She blushed, catching herself before she had slipped too far; she was far too used to speaking freely in front of Sirius, and had to watch that carefully.

Wendy nodded, dismissing Marketa's almost-slip as just part of her complications with the English language. "Yeah, that's the worst, innit?" she said, "When Dad gets too old or too busy or too tired or all three. My dad went through sort of a phase of that after my mum died and he was alone trying to keep four mouths fed, but things're much better now my brothers are out of school and have jobs of their own." She grinned a full Wendy-grin. "It's just like old times again - Dad's always got a trick up 'is sleeve!" Her eyes were encouraging as she looked at Mar. "So don't worry! Maybe once you and your sister are all grown up and fending for yourselves the jokes'll come back!"

Marketa couldn't help but smile in the afterglow of Wendy's huge and magnificent grin. "Maybe," she agreed, even though when she grew up and left home Ivana would be going with her. She suddenly felt very sad, because the best jobs for her were around the London area, half a continent away from her parents and Ivana's grandparents. She brushed away the feeling so as not to put a damper on the upbeat mood. "Da used to call me Les Nymfa - a wood nymph." She giggled nervously as a blush crept up her face again. "I could climb tree very fast."

Wendy laughed heartily. "My dad and brothers used to call me Wendy's Shadow because they could never find me in Hide and Seek," she replied. She loved remeniscing about those days. "They always accused me of flying off to Neverland so I couldn't be found."

Marketa's smile faded a bit with confusion. "Neverland?" she asked, the new and unfamiliar word rolling slowly over her tongue. As with most new words she learned in English, her accent was heavier.

Wendy's jaw dropped and her eyes widened. "Y'mean you've never heard of Peter Pan?" No sooner had she said it than she realized what the reason might be. "Oh, right. It's a Muggle tale. I always forget that. Well, the school library probably doesn't have a copy, but you can definitely borrow mine sometime if you want! It's a real cute story. Kinda a kid's fairytale, like."

Marketa smiled bashfully. "I know Muggle tales, I just do not tink I 'ave read dat one in de Czech." She shrugged. "But, if I can borrow it, I will tell you all about Sleepy John, and Vodník!" she offered. She bit her lip, wondering if these childish Czech folk stories held any sort of appeal for a British teenage girl.

Mar couldn't help but fight the grin that spread across her face, and the hefty blush that accompanied it. People at the table were looking around at the bouncing girl and the foreign girl. She giggled nervously. "Alright den. But all of my books are in Czech, so I'll just 'ave to tell de stories instead of let you borrow dem, unless you secretly know Czech."
