[Katz, to make a sneak attack, the formula is 1d20 + Attack + Sneak Attack (+ Chakra mod with Kawarimi).]

The farm girl watched the two go at it, the new girl swinging a fist with absolutely no strength behind it while Shisei effortlessly leaped up to make a just barely stronger attack at her. She hadn't been paying attention to the snake's ability, but the sight of him so agilely avoiding the attack with the skill level far beyond his age made her gawk and completely forget what she was supposed to be doing. He moved like the wind! It made her wonder whether the strikes she'd taken at him before really were just lucky shots that landed only because he was distracted. However, rather than discouraging the girl, she merely grinned, her white canines poking through her lips. Keeping the rather creepy smile on her face, she moved until she could see Shisei's face and laughed. "You think jutsu are any indication of strength? Ha! Just because Ero-sensei is so strong only means that most shinobi are prepared to fight jutsu users. What'll they think when they come across somebody who uses a different technique? I think that's more in line with real shinobi strength: to attack your enemy unexpectedly!" Orika drew back her arms and thrust both forwards, mouthing the word 'POW!' as she imaginatively socked Shisei for the third time. "And you think you're the best? Ha ha! You haven't even been able to avoid my attacks and I'm one of the slower students! Give me a break, snake-eyes."

She didn't say that to demean herself, but more to mock Shisei, although now that she thought about it, the fact that she didn't have as much speed as the others in their class was embarrassingly true. She wasn't fat, but had never really put much effort into improving her foot speed or the speed of her attacks. Now that she thought about it, it hadn't mattered how fast she struck, as long as she hit. Her attacking style mattered less that she hit multiple times than that she hit right and just where it hurt. Orika couldn't help chuckling merrily when she thought of the time she knocked Shisei out with just one swing of her fist of steel. That was going to be her! A shinobi that relied less on stealth and strength than pure brute force. Before she came to the academy, she sometimes went to the library to indulge in the dusty books. At first, she was discouraged by the emphasis on shinobi, but she had no choice considering the nature of Shimagakure. Instead of being limited by the pathetic stock, she found numerous opportunities in the shinobi encyclopedia that gave little blurbs about the billions and billions of aspects about being a shinobi. One of the topics that piqued her interest was an article on poisons and how they used to be used extensively, but due to the limited nature of herbs on Shimagakure and the time it took to properly prepare potions, many shinobi on the island honed their fighting skills instead.

It was a shame, really, though at the same time inevitable. Shinobi are honed to study what becomes most effective in their missions and if that involves only focussing on the fighting arts and jutsu use, then so be it. Those techniques were popular because they were the most effective... or so people thought. She'd show them that there was more than one way to pluck a chicken. Traps, poisons, hammers could be used just as well as fireballs and kunai. Orika humphed to herself and tried crossing her arms, but only succeeded in pulling the bonds tighter. "Oh man, this is impossible..." she muttered to herself. She laid back on the snow and closed her eyes for a quick snooze. But her grumbling stomach kept bother her. It wasn't until the tenth roar from the cavern of intestines that Orika's eyes flew open in realization. Maybe, just maybe her strength to do work with chakra came from food and since she was on an empty stomach, there was no way she'd be able to summon enough chakra to unwind rope! Orika remembered the dictate the dictator Shinichi had given, but then balanced the risk with her growling stomach. She couldn't get the busy Shisei to go with her so it might as well be a solo mission to seek out food.

[Enter from Village]

Orika came in a short time later with a sandwich in her hands, munching away happily at the tuna. Once she got her stomach filled up, it should be no problem to continue with the stupid training. Gah, she was in a bad mood, but food should solve it. The girl landed next to Karite and offered him a deer and cheese sandwich. It had been difficult to sneak through the crowd without anybody seeing her and she was even stopped by a concerned old man, only to throw him off her tail by saying that her teammates were lost somewhere in the densely packed crowd of hungry villagers. Next, it only took a quick swipe, duck, and casual jog out of the farms. Orika chewed on her lip as she stuffed her own food into her mouth. When will be the next time she'd get to visit home? And they were even on the same island, not even a kilometre apart! The image of a cackling Ero-sensei popped up in her mind, followed by a rush of soundless objection. It was unfair what he was doing to them, but at the same time, she wouldn't want three near murders running around free. Yes, she would have inevitably killed Karite and Kore in the bloodlust that overpowered her. Orika let out a cry and scooted closer to Karite, her bottom lip quivering. "I'm glad you're here today," she whispered.

Sitting next to a living, breathing Karite was... pleasant. If he weren't clothed for the winter, she could look upon the scar she'd given him, one that nearly caused his death. Instead, all she could do to remind herself of the incident was to sneak a peak at the spot where she'd stabbed Kore, right underneath the chin. For the most part, Kore's scarring was gone. It was like her crime had for the most part been erased from history. Even the consequences wasn't that bad now that she'd gotten used to living with Shisei, Maya, Karite, and Kore. It was surreal, that an attempt at murder would fade so quickly. Even the townspeople had pretty much ignored her. Her own scars were fading as well. She finished her sandwich and sat looking at the clearing, sunny sky, thinking about the long path ahead of her. Would she feel the same after her next murder or would the pain diminish? Or would it feel different, stronger, and more painful that she'd actually taken a real life. What about murdering more and more people, like the adults of this village? Though she had heard so much about the angst that popped up occasionally, all the grown ups seemed to hide their pain well. It was almost as if their crimes too had been an ephemeral experience, like a dream. The thoughts, sun, and food warmed her soul and Orika smiled to herself as she transferred a bit of chakra to the ropes, loosening them considerably. She could finish the job with her hands now, had the object of this training not been to use chakra.

Everything smelled like death, even worse so as his senses were amplified a hundred times through vigorous practise over the years. His clothing was stained by the stench of rotten flesh hundreds of years old. But, when he leaned his nose closer to the fabric to pinpoint the source, the man couldn't catch a whiff of anything remotely foul. Was this all in his imagination? Shinichi's brow furrowed like the lines in the beach sands and his normally vibrant eyes were shaded over by an imaginary shadow. The gauntness that lined his sharp-boned face stood out in extreme contrast with the man's slightly puffy eyes. The Kage's slumped shoulders and heaviness in his normally light-stepping feet only added to the disheartened scene. His tightly pursed, grey lips said nothing as he quietly entered the training grounds, hands free after having laid Mizugi's frail body into the seas. To see the man join the waters after centuries of living in a tortured state was an ephemeral experience. He recalled Mizugi's pasty face sinking into the icy waters, then quickly covered by pieces of free ice blurring the closed eyed magician from land forever. Truly, it was an eerie sight that sent shivers up the hardened ANBU's spine every time he passed water or snow, which in essence, was everywhere.

How much of the land had he tainted with excessive chakra, surely a destructive force at best? Even medical jutsu only worked against Nature's call, delaying the inevitable, much like Mizugi had done. To revolt against their mother, to delay death and pain, and to twist one's life force into a tool for causing pain was unacceptable. Shinichi numbly picked up a handful of snow and watched the crystals slowly melt in his gloved palm. He couldn't help but think of how much faster a good old fireball would have done the job, but at what horrible price? The pain of one ice monster was nothing compared to the increasingly worse storms they would experience, ones that would wipe all traces of life from this island and who knew where else? Shinichi crushed the snow in his hands and threw the crumbled mess to the side, disgusted... guilty. Mizugi's last coughs, desperately gasping for air, weighed on his mind. His final words had been for Serena to spread the word about the dangers of jutsu, not him. It was as if the ice monster could see the kind of shinobi he was. In essence, a lost cause who could never change his ways. "Lies!" Shinichi softly muttered, though the pounding of his heart told him that he truly believed otherwise. It was impossible that he, a soldier bred to use any method to kill, could wake up one day and completely redesign who he was.

The sharp crack of a slap woke Shinichi from his dream. He straightened, realizing he had been walking slumped over, and proceeded to hit his head on a branch. The action sent a mass of snow raining on his upper body, covering the exposed blood red hair with a flurry of white. Some of the snow snuck down the inside of his cloak and melted against his skin, causing the man to hiss from the icy cold. He rubbed his head disdainfully and promptly wiped off the clinging crystals. However, some of the bright white mess stuck to his black cloak like dew, turning the darkness a light grey. Shinichi shook his head and walked over to the gathered children, his hands in his pocket. He straightened up and approached them with loud steps and a small smile on his lips. He felt an inexplicable calm all of a sudden, despite being faced with running a festival meant to mask up all their troubles. It was as if Mizugi's suppressed message had been like a quieted child whose hostile disposition drains the energy of all those around her.

Shinichi looked up and his strangely relaxed smile stretched half a centimetre up his cheeks. Apparently Sukotto and Maya had finished their fight and it looked like the Three Miscreants were training with a young girl. "Hello, guys," he said placidly, casually strolling past the pair training Kawarimi and squatting next to Orika, Karite, and his lion friend. "I see you've gotten free," he commented, gently taking her scratched up wrists in his own and examining them, "Though not without trouble. Keep in mind, Orika, that escape is only one part and that you may have to fight your way out afterwards, which would be more difficult with injured arms. But, good job, anyway."

He observed Karite playing with Kore for a while and then chuckled as the rock struck the cub's nose. Karite's little trick didn't go without notice. Shinichi's eyes lit up, wondering where the boy had learned to use such underhanded tactics. He was already thinking of what kind of shinobi the boy would make. Leaning over to the green-haired teen, Shinichi whispered low enough so Kore couldn't hear, "I can tell Kore's getting frustrated. Keep up with the tricks and he'll have no chance." The Kage traced a pattern in the snow as he spoke. Shinichi carved a niche for himself in the packed, white powder and looked to see what the girl would do next after Shisei's hand came down on her. "You look bored," he said, commenting on her apathetic appearance, "Try and care about the fight and you'll do better."

The man said nothing as he continued to sit there and watch the students fight. It wasn't until a time later that he perked up and mentioned, "When you guys are done, feel free to head down to the playground for some kickball. It's our last event for the day so let's make this count." The sun shone on the bits of ice still glued to his body and the light reflected off the man, particularly around his chest where the most snow had accumulated. "Oh, and Orika, I can teach you the next stage if you want, or you can go play kickball with your friends. Your choice." Shinichi added, wondering who would take his offer to go play and who would stick to their training. If just one of the Three Miscreants wanted to enjoy him or herself, then the other three would have to follow and thus might be more influenced to play. "No sense working too hard," he said. He had always thought that the harder one worked, the better, but Mizugi had clearly demonstrated that nothing should be used in excess. Shinichi sighed heavily at the thought. The snow he was sitting on had already numbed bottom and was slowly moving to his torso.

+5 to Orika, Senritsu (next attacking roll), and Karite's next roll
-5 to Shisei and Kore's next roll

Orika spotted Ero-sensei from a distance and gulped, quickly shoving her arms behind her. She didn't want the man to find out that she had either been slacking or too dumb to figure out how to use chakra. Then again, why would anybody bother to master the blasted force and consequently jutsu? Wasn't it just sooo much easier and efficient to learn to fight well with one's fists than to spend hours trying to figure out how to use an invisible energy? Yes, she had seen the things Shinichi-sensei could do, but that all seemed impossible to her. She was unmotivated by feats that couldn't be done by mortal men or those without natural ability. Her heart quickened as Shinichi approached and the girl shut her eyes and tried really, really hard to push that last measure of chakra to her wrists. Come on... Just a little more... There! She could hear a quite loud snap that, concurring with Shisei's slap, sent the distance Shinichi flinching right into a tree! Now freed from the bounds, Orika cupped her mouth and giggled as she watched the snow tumble over her sensei. Who thought a shinobi would be so clumsy? He must be really off today. That would explain the sudden mood change, as the man were still a teenager or something. When he walked up to her, Orika proudly showed him her hands, but cursed when she noticed red gashes all over the wrists. "I ain't good at this chakra business," she said, shrugging her shoulders. She listened carefully to Ero-sensei and then replied with a giant grin, "But when I finally learn Kawarimi, then that won't be a problem, right? Come on, teach me the next stage!" Ero-sensei went on to remind them of the sports festival and Orika rubbed her sore wrists, barely listening. "Oh... right, the festival!" she exclaimed, having completely forgotten about the event over the break, "That sounds like a lot of fun! Forget training, at least for now. Come on, Karite, Shisei! Uh, new girl!" In her excitement, Orika just barely noticed a change in Shinichi and merely attributed the personality switch to it being a festival day.

The snake’s body fell faster and faster. His mind began contemplating if the girl would even try to move. A part of him wanted to do critical damage to the back of her neck. Perhaps if he struck hard enough to her neck bones the force would break them and thus kill her. Or at least leave the girl paralyzed. Then the virulent serpent could have Rude-sempai’s full attention rather than sharing it with a student who had no inclination to join in a battle. The muscles in wrist tightened as his fingers straightened with the force willing to pierce the girl’s flesh. At the last moment though gold eyes widened and the white hand curved off direction. The attack only severed a few dark strings of hair at the side of the girl’s head and a small nick to her ear. He missed purposely.

Shisei’s body fell to one knee in front of the girl as the boy looked down at the ground. “Feh… I won’t learn anything with such an easy target.” the boy mumbled to himself as he got up back into a vertical stance. His frame turned to the raggedy girl his face still expressionless, but his tone slightly annoyed. “You really have no talent. You say you can barely get enough food for yourself and you also don’t seem to be too quick. People like you don’t survive too long.” Shisei continued. Judging by her comment and appearance, the snake child surmised she was probably a street rat. He felt 78.51% sure. To at least compensate this the serpent youth would have to use something to slow himself. Peering around, he remembered that rude Sukotto had left some training weights. Taking them out of the bag the was tallying how many he should use. “One on each limb should be enough… it’ll be a workout. I always wanted to use training weights like these. Maybe I Rude-sempai will give me some.” The snake took a seat on the ground and began placing fidgeting with the weights. His eyes did not look towards the girl with the ribbon around her neck, but his voice still spoke to her. “You should attack while I’m in this position. Make it good too. Don’t just come at me in some linear approach.” the boy muttered as he rolled up his lower pant leg to begin equipping the weight.

As the snake youth began tinkering with the weights Ero-sensei had returned. He seemed slightly different too. Even a bit morbid. Shisei just shook as Ms. Tart turning down the man’s advances. Served him right. He greeted the group of children in which Shisei replied with a curt ‘Good Afternoon’. His ears took in slightly conversations the man was having with everyone. Little snake was more concerned in adjusting the strap of the weight around his ankle. The flame hair made some remark about the vagabond being bored. “Whenever you want to attack, please do.” Shisei also said to Senritsu his head no looking up towards the sky. The wind was cool and snow below his posterior only aided in decreasing his temperature. At the same time it was peaceful. Only the pink hue that had contaminated half his face was the only imperfection. His gold eyes stared into the clouds thinking of the color pink. A cloud of pink soon turned darker until it became red and three other clouds around it became black. Those eyes. The Sharingan. Shisei continued to think of the ocular art. Just what we’re it’s specialties? He couldn’t expect to find all the answers from Sukotto because why would someone give away all the secrets to their art? Perhaps another source may enlighten him a little. “Ero-sensei. What is the Sharingan and what jutsu does it have?” Shisei questioned staring up into the sky.

The snake shinobi kept his eye on the ghostly apparition on the copying eye in the sky as the clouds passed through it. As despicable the color is, depending on how strong the technique, Shisei would have to learn it. Yet what did the rude boy mean by the term kekkei genkai? Did it mean that there was some type of requirement or perhaps kekkei genkai was a certain level a shinobi had to attain before being able to learn it? Most importantly what other techniques were this kekkei genkai? That red eye was not the only eye Shisei remembered. There was that other person with the purple eye. Slightly similar yet at the same time much different. A different feeling and intensity from it. That one seemed to know everything about him before the snake child could even speak. His thoughts were slightly cracked by hopper’s annoyingly cheerful voice. Something about kickball? “Feh. You children go play. I want to learn jutsu first.” Shisei said waving them away. His eyes still stared up into the sky wondering of those moves kekkei genkai type moves.

Speaking of hopper, didn’t she make some type of comment before? Yes about speed. Shisei did not deny that the farmer had a strong arm. In fact he could not. At the same he also accepted the fact that those weaker than him accumulated their efforts with weapons and teamwork to defeat him. It was something that spurred his strength. He alone would surpass them all. After all the piss crow stood bold and strong because the Tategami warrior stood boldly behind him. The triad of leo, hopper and the lion cub were almost joined to the hip. The vagabond also kept close to rude-sempai for whatever reason she felt. To Shisei they were symbiotic. They had relationships similar to the oceans clownfish and sea anemone. The clownfish hid within the tentacles for protection. The anemone needed the fish clown’s fierce territorial behavior to ward off anemone eating fish. One day the snake boy would be the great white that devoured both without any remorse of second thoughts. They’d be devoured on his whim. As of now there was only one other possible beast that stood alone the boy felt could be a hindrance on their own. “That imp…”. Returning back from his thoughts the boy stared at the ocular apparition in red, but would reply to Orika. “The reason I haven’t avoided any of your attacks is simply because I find it hard to take an insect like yourself serious. Thus you’re petty attacks behind my back or with your club get through. Just like an insect you’re more of an annoyance. Ohh do you want to know what the enemy will think when they come across you wielding your club like some brute? They’d think ‘look at the barbarian!’ and break your club. Then what will you do without your club and no jutsu? The unpredictability and power of jutsu far surpasses that of some spiked mace.” he stated while the gold eyes remained fixed in the sky. The wind blew around his face. It felt good to feel such a free wind.

Karite let out a laugh loud enough to shake the heavens and have the gods question their own power. He listened to Orika as she spoke to him simply. She was thanking him for being here. "Orika, I wouldn't be whole without you and Kore. Where else would I be but with you?" He smiled like he always did causing his eyes to shut because his smile was to big for his face. Looking at her he smiled again as he wrapped a arm around her to give her a hug. As he heard Shisei he almost laughed hard enough to fall over. Shisei always seemed to have a negative comment. It was rather annoying but Karite was far to happy to let it get to him. Keeping the same smile on his face he turned to Shisei and began to speak. "You know Shisei, your logic is flawed. Some of the greatest fighters in the world relied on nothing but their brute strength. Maya and Shuga are two such shinobi here. They are not considered barbarians among the people of this island and are given much respect by their enemies if they still hold their lives. Besides can we not considered all of us barbarians training everyday to become better warriors instead of solving our differences with words? So to say that Orika is nothing more than a barbarian because she uses a mace is a false statement. She may find jutsu not to be her strong point. There are other ways to fight then with just jutsu. While it may be harder one can always win with limited resources. So before you begin to judge one on their choose of combat maybe you should look on the entire situation and remember that some of the greatest victories were one by men and women who seemed to not stand a chance. As far as the insect thing might go, even the smallest of pest can cause the greatest harm in the end. Even you can respect that aspect of nature I presume." Smiling at the snake Karite threw a rock up in the air turning back to Orika. He winked at the girl as a sign that he would always be there for her when he could be.

He then heard a familiar voice and his blood ran cold. Shinichi-sama. Karite remembered he had broken the rules of engagement earlier that day. If anyone had seen him they would have surly told Shinichi about it. As the figure stepped closer Karite's heart stopped. On the outside the boy still held his smile as if nothing had happened at all. Shinichi's voice sounded different but it did not ease the boy's tension, until the man was close enough to slit the boy's throat did his breath stop. The man was in his ear. At that moment time seemed to slow itself down. Karite could not help but shake. Then it came, the words poured from the man's mouth like magma. "I can tell Kore's getting frustrated. Keep up with the tricks and he'll have no chance." It was a piece of advice from the flame killer. Shinichi-sama must not have found out. It was odd enough to change Karite's smile into a puzzled look of disbelieving aw. "Umm thank you Shinichi-sama." Karite wasn't sure how to address the man after the surprising act. Listening to his advice Karite took it in and formulated a trick like no other. Luckily the sun was out today.

Truning to Kore after the life threatening encounter with Shinichi. He smiled at him and began to throw the rock in the air gradually climbing with every toss. "You ready buddy? this one is going to be a different kind of throw." Karite smiled as the last time the rock touched his hand was right before it was launched into the sky. The bright sun would play with the cubs eyes and then it came the second rock from Karite's hand. Winding up with enough force to cause a little more damage. Now was just to see if Kore took the bait.

Kore was surprised by how well Karite spoke to Shisei. It was almost as if the boy had finally grown up enough to be civil to people he disliked. This was not the same energetic Karite he first meet so long ago. He was still a trouble maker no doubt but it seemed he learned to pick his battles. Karite seemed to be full of surprises lately to everyone. Even to himself. Kore was soon distracted as he watched the rock he had been watching through his entire thought process disappear into the blinding light of the sun. His eyes quickly adverted to the ground and took a few seconds to readjust before looking up to see Karite take to long to throw the second rock. Karite must have underestimated the ability the cub had. Kore growled before rolling to the side. Shaking out the fur he stamped his paws on the ground and growled. The same old tricks weren't going to work.

The breeze around him felt cool, but good. It was a simplistic thing of joy. Despite the two mirages Shisei stared at in the sky. The crimson eye of endless fear now joined with the violet pupil of constant vigilance. The two hovered near the sun glancing down at the world. At him. The serpent youth would have only glared back if not for the voice of Karite. One gold eye looked down to watch the couple for a second. “But of course…. How predictable.” the serpent thought. The two were basically joined at the hip now. Ero-sensei would have to release their seal soon. Between those two and then Maya and Xyn, the lionesses den would soon be named the Tategami Love Ground. Something a solitary shinobi did not require. The serpent did not see a need to make a point to the two lovers. The Orochi knew the aspects of what he declared and thus was not irrational in the matter. Besides how much could Shisei expect from a bunch of happy-in-love children? Turning back up to sky he allowed his lips to move. “Believe what you want. My logic is not flawed. If you choose not to learn jutsu then you choose to be weak.”. With that the boy laid back into the snow to stare up at the sky. He let out a sight. It’d be good to be like the wind.

If Shisei were the wind he wouldn’t be bounded or limited. His body wouldn’t feel like it was weighed down. He’d be able to move freely, strong and power. To be able to ascend to new heights, pushing the i]limits further and further till it was only him at the top. “I will attain that dream one day.” the serpent youth thought while staring into the clouds. Of course to reach the highest, solitary peak he’d eventually have to come across those two. A collision that one day he’d have to be prepared for. Yet it seemed that day would inch closer and boy would not be ready. Why was he lining down and not practicing with the weapons he brandished or learning jutsu? That’s right. Waiting for other people. Shisei began to wonder just why shinobi were put into teams. If their abilities were not comparable then one would always hinder the team. Even if one didn’t all it proved was one’s inability to accomplish something on their own. Is that something that all decided to swallow within their being and not think about or did others just enjoy being mediocre? It was a curious thought.

The smiling Shinigami had stated that pests can cause the greatest harm. An implication that insects were strong. An ant army could be powerful. Thousands of ants have been known to run through an destroy the inhabitants of all forests. Yet that was only based on quantity. An armada of ants could have the appearance of something powerful. Perhaps something even greater than that of the king of beasts. Yet at the same time it was just compilation of weaklings. After all what was one army ant alone? Yet one tiger could scare anyone. Is that the shinobi way they all desired? A collection of weaklings? Perhaps that should not be surprising. It seemed as all were looking for some type of lover or friendship. It would only make sense that the island people assembled. That wouldn’t be Shisei’s shinobi way. The person who walked alone walked the fastest. Unhampered by the faults of another. Not required to owe another. Growing more powerful on their own. To stand at the highest peak of human perfection in the world. Where only one person can stand….

The clouds moved by slowly in the sky, but the wind was slightly more active at the face of Shisei at ground level. As usual they had the thinking of children. Yet it was unique to hear the reaper respond with words. Shisei would have expected some similar response like the farm girl. Screaming, finger pointing, and then a frail attempt of some use of weapon. Most likely when the snake’s back was turned so their chances of hit increased by about 50%. The reaper speaking so much was something to be expected from the vagabond or perhaps sly smile. That and his constant smile. Did something change? The snake youth could only asses that it was probably brought on by Orika. Just as the Tategami princess became more talkative and unsure when her beloved mono crow came into play. It may also be the reason why the straggly haired girl was in such vigor to defend rude-sempai even though she denied having anything to do with him. It was funny of the relationships people built. The snake’s mother had a curious change during her relations.
