"Went home," Sirius said proudly, pointing with his thumb at James. "To the Potters'. I think Jamesie's mum likes me more than she does him, in any case! I've snuck over to their house more times than I can count, so of course I was welcomed."
Sirius smiled, showing all of his teeth. It was true, the Potters' was a place where he was truly content.

Jen stared at Sirius' smile. It was so perfect, just like him. She can't believe that he had the guts to run away from home like that. She'd never be able to do that, her mum would mutilate her. "Didn't your parents care?" she asked him.

"Of course they cared, Jen - I'm the heir of the 'Ancient and Most Noble House of Black'," he recited. "But that's not the point. I'm not swallowing their 'Toujurs Pur' filth, so I had to run away. Meet the new blood-traitor."
He said those two last words with an immense sense of accomplishment.

Lily had been thinking about many different things and didn't hear Jen ask her question until she started talking to Sirius. She responded a little late, not noticing that the conversation had gone on. "My summer was good, how about your's?"

Peter's jaw dropped, in awe of Sirius's bravery. He knew that, had he been in Sirius's situation, he could never have plucked up the guts to run away from home. Never in a million years.
"Well done," he squeaked.
Wendy, too, was amazed at Sirius's feat. The pureblood mania had been pounded into his head pretty much since infancy, and he'd still found it in him to go against his entire family because of his beliefs. Wendy knew true strength when she saw it, and she saw it in Sirius. She admired him for it.
She nodded at Peter's squeaked compliment and added, "Yeah, that was real courageous. It's no wonder you're a Gryffindor."

Sirius's cheeks colored - it was normal for Peter to say those kinds of things about him, but not anyone else. He turned to Lily and decided to inquire about her summer. "What'd you do, Lils?"

Wendy raised her eyebrows, noticing an odd phenomenon was occuring. Was Sirius... could he possibly be... blushing?
She quickly corrected the thought: No, no, of course he isn't blushing, that's just not Sirius. Still... I did see some red... Wendy stifled a giggle, not quite hiding her smirk behind the Daily Prophet.

Remus heard Wendy stifle a giggle beside him, and looked down at her with a smile. He was not a young man who lied; she looked cute, hiding behind her paper. Ooh, interesting article... he thought non-committally leaning toward her a little to see what it was.

Wendy noticed Remus looking at her paper, but she also noticed his grin. She smirked at him conspiritorially. "Stocks are high today," she said in a voice that passed for conversational, but that clearly had laughter bubbling beneath.

Remus's eyebrows flew upward with mock surprise. "Really!? I hadn't noticed, I was looking at this lovely little report on precariously thin rolls of parchment. People have been scratching away, doing homework, and their quill would just-thwack-go right through to the table. Fascinating," he said with relish.

Wendy nodded, smiling through her false sincerity. "Ah, yes, I did see that. That'll make O.W.L.s hard this year if it's not put right," she said in as grave a tone as she could muster. " 'Specially with that death grip of mine." She shook her head sadly.

Sirius snorted, but pretended like he was innocent and looked out the window.

"Oh, I am fotunate enough to have been graced with a very gentle grip," Remus boasted with a good-natured smirk. He then, without even looking away, kicked Sirius in the shin. That took serious skill. Or perhaps Sirius skill. Yes, definitely the latter.

"YOW! I THINK YOU NEED A VERY GENTLE GRIP IN THE -" Sirius couldn't finish that thought, though, because he started coughing uncontrollably.
Once he was finished, he began humming and looking out the window.

Peter, who had gone back to ignoring everyone else, was snapped back to attention by Sirius's outburst. He looked at Sirius, then at Remus, then released a nervous laugh, wanting to sound like he knew what was going on even though he didn't.
Wendy couldn't help it any longer - she burst into giggles. Then she clapped her hands over her mouth, trying to stop. She couldn't, however, stop herself from adding, "A gentle grip and a roaming foot!" That sent her off on a whole new giggle-fit.
