Yikes, that sucks. Trying to figure out what I want to do about living next year, apparently as long as I apply by a certain date as an international student I'm guaranteed campus housing, but idk. At least my landlord would be the school, haha.
That sucks, what's your living situation? Do you live with the landlord? Our utility bills were always separate at my old apt (and came to us not the building owner), but then I'm in a different country so I'm not sure what the regulations and usual practices are there. Probably should find out xd .
So many of my Christian friends celebrate Halloween (and believe in evolution - I myself have never found the two at odds, religion and evolution). I went to a Halloween party at my friend's church once with her, we had volunteered to work it so I didn't really go, but it was fun. And I got to wear my awesome jesters hat...and other stuff. I never really got past the hat part of my awesome jester costume...one day! I don't know if there are "right" reasons for faith and/or religion.
I understand, I'm kind of the opposite too. I mean I haven't exactly resolved where I stand on faith, and I don't think I'll ever find religion, but theology fascinates me and plays a large part in my cognitive life. But I was brought up with nothing, so yea.

@Morgey: Wow, stupid landlord sounds stupid. Hope it gets figured out.
So long as we're complaining about stupidness, on Thursday my friends, who submitted portfolios to get into upper division art classes along with me, got emails saying if they were accepted or not, but I didn't... and to this moment I still haven't gotten an email, even though I've been contacting people and trying to get it figured out. And so all the other students are able to register for classes without me and all the spots are gonna get taken up... I just want to know if I got in or not! I think I have a right to know, considering how many hours I spend on that friggin' portfolio. But no, nothing.
@JK: Yeah, my family's Christian, but we celebrate Halloween. My parents don't believe in evolution though. The reason it conflicts with Christianity and Judaism is because the Bible states that God created the earth in seven days, and when he did, humans and all of the other animals we have today were created at the same time, already like they are presently. I believe it also had a timeline, and took place thousands of years ago instead of millions.
But yeah, I'm definitely one of those who was raised to be Christian but left it. I believe I'm agnostic now, which feels more right for me.

@Kits - you can't register until you find out? Because if you can just do it and drop if you didn't get in, that is not cool. I'd be totally pissed about that.
Yea but that's a rigid specification of detail that still can be worked around. I mean I'm talking about God and evolution, not necessarily the bible and evolution. Because yes I get the Holy Spirit and all that, but still, the bible IS written by men, and men are weak and subject to corruption. So you can never really know what God did and what was God's plan, and that's honestly the way I think it should be anyhow. I think if God were one for specifics He wouldn't be absent.

Nope, I've been trying to register just to see, and it still won't let me. I try once or twice a day.
Well obviously that makes sense to you and me, and that's pretty much how I viewed it when I was a Christian. But good luck getting the majority of Christians to believe that. At least from the churches I've been to, they teach the the Bible is the complete word of God and should be followed to a T.

That sucks, is there any specific person whose office you can go to? If not send them 666 emails! Spam their inbox with a bad omen, that'll teach 'em!
I think it's how a lot of Christian's view it nowadays, people want faith, but they have to be able to modernize it. I mean yes, church is still one way, but as for the mass laity, particularly the younger generation, I don't find that to be so as much. I don't have two many Christian friends - even Catholic friends - who are overly rigid and canonical in their beliefs. And they are ok with that.

Sounds like fun. XD A counselor did actually finally respond to my email today, and said that they haven't finished sending out all the emails yet but they should be done by tomorrow. *sigh* That seems unfair that I have to wait an entire week longer to find out.
Yeah, I think in terms of our generation, more Christians see it from that view. But when you go to the churches with the hordes of adults... they're viewing it quite a bit differently. XP

That is, I mean you get screwed on registration. You should write an angry letter!! That will do NOTHING! Bah, life would be so much easier if we all had Ms. Bitters as a teacher. Things can only get better from her miserable perspective ^_~.
Yea, but remember, in another few decades those hordes will die. And yes death is sad, but it's also progress! Hehe, j/k, but I mean think about it. If people from 100 years ago were here they'd be scandalized to see people of different colors sitting in the same church. But they aren't here, and many of the ones who are now find no problem with that as all. As the future will find no problem with other things. Tolerance and understanding has been slow, but it is coming, whether we like it or not.

And that's still not ok, that's way too long, especially if other people have been able to register all this time and you haven't. If they really hadn't processed them all they shouldn't have sent out emails to anybody yet. I hope that if you do get in you can still get classes by the time they deal with this.

Yeah. What's even more ridiculous about it is that my major (Intermedia) had to wait for all of the other majors (Drawing, Painting, etc.) to finish reviewing their portfolios before they were allowed to let their students know the results. So the people who sent the emails wanted to be all 'fair' by sending all the majors out together, even though the Intermedia faculty was faster about reviewing stuff, and even though Intermedia classes fill up faster than Drawing and Painting classes. *huff* And now hear I am a week and a half later with nothing.

That blows, I hate stuff like that, it's so frustrating.
Which is totally the topic of this thread! I'm trying to get in contact with the adviser at Birmingham to say I accept but I haven't heard back from her and I'm freaking out. Is it not going through or has she just not had time to respond? Or am I not getting her emails for some reason, though I doubt it's this last one. I've emailed and faxed her. With an 8 hour time difference I can't really call. I'd be asleep when she'd be at work, at work when she'd be off work (and thus probably not at the phone number I have anyhow), and free when she'd probably be asleep. I'm going to try and see if there is anyone else I can contact b/c I'm supposed to accept the offer by the 10th or they won't necessarily hold my place, but how can I accept when I can't get in contact with anybody?! Bah, so frustrating! And I need to start my visa, and figure out housing and everything as well. So I'm quite stressed about that.

Ugh, that's dumb. I mean, how can people in positions of authority like that, where people rely on them to keep up with stuff and respond to them, be so bad about that kind of thing?! It seems like common courtesy to reply to emails at least once a day, and if it's your job to be replying to emails, then you should be checking it three times a day! Yet it seems like I'm always replying to things far faster than any counselors, teachers, etc. They all put it off for three days or whatever. Sometimes weeks, sometimes never responding at all. Maybe you can stay up late one night and call her then?

Yea, I know. Although I'm afraid that it's perhaps a technology fail? Idk, either she's not getting my emails or I'm not getting her responses? And the fax should have gone through but it was sent from...well I don't know, my mom sent it, but I don't have an address to be faxed back at. I guess if I don't hear from her by Wed I can try and stay up late that night? Ugh, such fail! I'm phone-phobic too so I'd really prefer not to do that. Zombies and phones, those are like my two Achilles heels. Zombies are the left heel, phones the right...don't ask, but that's what I've decided. xd
