C. Fox I played with good internet and, from scratch, I quickly managed to get like a thousand PP's on my friends account (so I guess that means i beat enough ppl on a row). Footsies and cross ups w/o lag was the name of the game. You should get a stick, though. Unless you already know you're more comfortable on a pad. -- AND All you have to do to escape a full nelson is step aside and put/stick your hips behind your opponent's (from the side not all way to the back) Then full nelson can be easily broken. There, saved him a paragraph or two. Yeah, but let's see him try that when he's on the ground getting his neck cranked. =D If he does, she'll like just starting hitting him in the back of the head, then. Yeah, foul play, but, it's a fight. And I'm a pad player. I grew up playing fighting games on the pad, from Sf Alpha to Guilty Gear to King of Fighters. I think I'm equally skilled with the keyboard, and would definitely create a keyboard style controller one day. The stick is probably easiest since sticks were designed for fighting games, but I can make a pad work. If I get enough money, I'll eventually invest in a stick. Maybe.

And if you're pretty good at keyboard for fighters, you should be fine with stick. The newer sticks are 8 buttons, so easy to piano your fingers and use home row ideas for layout.
Biggest downfall to stick is the cost. I didn't feel like modding one so my MvC TE stick cost me $140. But the TE is so worth it, the buttons are so sensitive. Though I guess that can be a problem since slightly brushing over them can trigger inputs.

As long as his hips are not on top of yours, he'll be fine.
I'm the same way, I can play on both. I can also play on the keyboard. It's just that certain characters work better for stick, while some characters are fine on pad. Like that Fei Long player that's hot right now, Inthul. He plays on a pad and ppl was like 'OMG'... and, really, Fei Long isn't hard on a pad, at all. Hell, even Fuerte is easy on pad. The only difficult thing is probably RSF.
Also, some fighters aren't meant for the pad... *cough*MARVEL*cough*

Kind of funny how fast the Fei Long bandwagon died out. I tried playing Juri on pad and it's just too difficult, and I'm way too lazy to try and map out the buttons and make macros and s**t.
It is true some things are exponentially more difficult to do on the pad, but normally those things don't make or break a player. Solid game play is what wins, at least online, and can be done very effectively with any controller.
Though, I suppose I can rock Dan a lot easier on pad.

I really hope the fightpad makes doing RSF easier since six buttons are on the face of the pad instead of four. I'm just worried if my thumb can scroll easily enough. They said good things about the d pad, so that's good.
And yeah, people are acting like using a pad is like the hardest thing ever. I went to several SF 4 tournaments using a PS2 controller and people's faces were =o. And they were even more surprised when I was using El Fuerte. You don't need a stick, really, I believe. Whatever you grew up using, use it. Don't follow the community's conventions.

You know what is ******** impossible to use? 360 controller.
I remember when I went to some small anime festival thing last winter at the community college and they had an SF4 tourney. None of the characters unlocked, 360, was horrible.
Good thing we bitched enough for somebody to bring their personal PS3 out with out fail. ^-^

The SF4 tourneys around here have this funny thing of using xbox to play their games. Fortunately, I have a converter, which lets me use a PS2 controller on Xbox 360. Unfortunately, I have to spend 10 minutes reconfiguring the buttons since they're so out of sync, but it's memorized on the xbox after that.

I was watching one match where a Viper pad player used hard thunder knuckle (to punish a jump in), then FADC'd to Ultra 1. The commentator was like "THAT'S GODLIKE".
No, it's not. It's as easy as FADCing shoryuken into metsu hadouken, except you're on the pad.
Also, I play Juri on pad just fine. I just don't go crazy trying to charge all of her kick fireballs, which is what I guess you're trying to do.

That seems arbitrary and gay.
You're going to make me do this the old fashioned way, aren't you?

As for Juri, I just find doing things like TK dive kick infinitely times more easier on the stick than pad. That and my style tries to maximize her zoning potential instead of just straight rushing down, so the fireball stores are somewhat important to me.
And the con I'm going to this weekend is having their tournament on a 360. I won't have a problem since my friends are bringing their sticks, and I suppose I'll bring mine just in case. I expect to lose first round for that. =(

I do fine with Juri, as well. Just, the only problem is you can't charge all three of her kicks without holding the pad awakwardly. I can charge either LK and HK, or MK and HK. I did all three before, but again...awkward, plus I can't use any punches while holding.
