Every single creature must meet it’s maker at some point. From old to young, meek and strong. This doe came to terms with that fact at a tender age when her mother died from injuries attributed to a rockslide. Death came for all, no matter when and no matter how.
When death came for her father, it was during a blizzard. He’d lived a long, hardy life, but his body had been overcome by illness and he could no longer keep pace with her and the rest of their group. When he finally collapsed and breathed his final breath, she saw to the digging of his grave herself. She toiled through the battering winds, blinded by hail, ice, and bitter cold, until she felt her work was through and carefully set her father’s body down.
It was only when she’d patted the last bit of snow down upon him that the storm began to break and the others in her group approached her. They allowed her a moment of silence, enough time for the sun to start peaking through the clouds, before an adult called out to her-
“Buries Dead, it’s time to move on!”
