A low chuckle emanated from the woman, almost like a self pleased purr but also a predatory growl. "Well, that is a desire for anonymity you share with your sacrificial lambs. They would rather be ghosts than paragons, which has made them all the harder to drag through the mud. Their insistence on being invisible has made staking them through the heart rather...difficult.

"If it weren't for my knowing their ways and being a rather constant thorn in my side I doubt even I would have knowledge of them. A random attack on my holdings with no evidence to the attackers here or there is a simple inevitability of my position...but a path of destruction with no apparent cause is in itself a pattern, like a shadow in the middle of a blaring light the complete lack of a 'calling card' is in fact their calling card.

"So tell me boy, how is it you came upon our brave 'hunters of the evils of men'? And I suppose you had at least a scuffle of a time with dear Tinker; even for someone like you, her intellect would make your task... formidable."
"By chance I assure you." Fenton said with a smirk. "I was merely feeling out the area for children, excuse me, systems that I had not talked to. I came across one who would not talk to me. You see, computer systems to me are like confused children. One you find the way they communicate you can be on even terms with them. This child I found was very difficult, there were many live algorithms that changed often, but eventually we reached an understanding." Fenton leaned forward and grinned. "Tinker was that child's parent."

"You have an odd way of seeing things my child, odd yet amusing," the woman said. "How possible would it be for you to gain control of their moving fortress entirely? If you could lock down the entire thing and have it delivered to me I can guarantee you many more games to come."
Fenton frowned. "That's easy enough given the time, but where's the fun in that?" For the first time since the start of the meeting that Fenton wasn't smiling. "Are you like everyone else? You want me to do everything for you?" He sounded more like a crestfallen child than a grown adult.

Wasting no time, Chamberlain sheathed Gram and rushed to Tara's side. Giving her a once over he slowly shook his head. "What happened my poor girl..."
With much care he tended to her wounds and moved her to his bed staying at her side pensively until her fever broke.

Tara moaned in her sleep a fair amount, Kyle's name came up a few times, along with the words 'Providence', 'Omen' and 'Vector'. The sentences where gibberish at best and potentially served to do nothing but confuse and worry an onlooker.

Soul tried his cell several times, and with every call it appeared that Chamberlain was either screening him, or wanted to meet in person.
I can't think of a more appropriate topic to discus in person really, I'm sure Mr. Money wants to know if he started financing the wrong side. I'll have to tell him the truth about what Snyder wants. Why I intend to help him... why this could be the best thing to happen to this dank city. He could see the shop a mere block away.
While ringing out a washcloth to replace the one on Tara's brow Chamberlain spotted Soul heading toward the store. About time, though not the best time I suppose...
He waved him up and went back to tending the fallen woman.

Soul entered the shop and took in the moment before saying anything, "It's the end of civilization in Capital and you get date rapey?" He joked taking off his heavy over coat and rolling up his sleeves. "She doesn't have any serious injuries does she?"
Chamberlain gave Soul a searing look and then ushered him out of the room. He closed the door part way and shook his head. "Her arm is in bad shape but it doesn't seem life threatening. And no I don't know what happened, she'll have to tell me when she wakes." He peered closely at Soul as he wiped the sweat from his brow with his rolled up sleeve. "What's kept you? Usually you're quick to get here when I send the emergency code. And Victor's not even answering."

"Since you've been busy I'll give you the short version. Capes are getting privatized and Snyder is making the plays. His pitch is legit and I figure if I'm on the first wave I can keep it honest. What's your take on this Chamberlain, I feel like I'm jumping with no net." Soul loosened the collar on his suit, "******** suits and shades all day, I'm going to need more guys like you and Vic, where ever the hell he is, this whole thing could go to hell in a hand bag."

There was the sound of the woman tapping her fingers on a surface for a few moments before she responded. "...Have? My boy, aren't you just the twisted little thing? I am beginning to like you even more." She paused again and allowed herself to slouch back on the large couch behind the curtain, her arms laid across the top of the piece of furniture.

"Yes, once the bait has been used for its purpose you may have her. But be careful you do not bite off more than you can chew. I think because of your advantage over her so do you your playing field up to this point you may have underestimated her brilliance. You may have her, but I advise you not to give her one micron of leeway or she will find a way to turn it against you in ways you have yet to imagine. She might ask to use the toaster to make a snack and a few minutes later you'll find she's found a way to turn it into a taser. I would suggest once she is yours that you give her nothing you cannot yourself control."

"No need to get so touchy! I'm only offering you some help," Victor leaned against the smoothed out rock wall. "I'm trying to tell you that you keep pushing it like this and you're going to run out of limits. Just because it's faster to go straight through a mountain doesn't mean you have to prove to us that you can do the impossible task. You're a kid pretending to be a full grown adult cape jockey, and that's just dangerous."

"Like you're really that much older?" Liz snapped back, "At least I don't treat this job like a game! I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm trying to save our friend and if I have to blow a few fuses to do that I will."

(Yeah I saw lol, just been busy had time for one post sorry for my long absence as well got a baby and been working extra hours.)
"I've got a dozen years of experience on you kid, and I'm telling you that this is how you guarantee an early dirt nap! I'm not saying that you'll regret any of this, I'm just saying we had options! It's not like your friend wants to be rescued anyways. He practically gave the opposition the advantage by cutting literally hours out of the trip." Reaper scoffed at Liz's remarks.

"I may treat this as one big game but that's to give everyone a fighting chance. I'm telling you now, so you never ask again, I want to give them all second chances, I don't want to be the judgement for any living being. I don't want to be my father." Victor crossed his arms and looked away from Liz. If it's not a game why does everyone I meet play? I can't help but feel as if this is all one big practice match for the real deal.

Liz seemed to seethe at the suggestion that Zack was somehow collaborating. "I swear if it wasn't for you knowing nothing about Zack I would have knocked you on your a** for that.

"And don't think I don't think people can't change given the chance. My mother wouldn't be who she is today without second chances. There are some people however, and I have learned this in only a few short years of dealing with the evils that dwell in the darkest corners of man's mind; there are some people who don't deserve that chance you might give them. Maybe some of your nemesis are just misunderstood but I can tell you that with my knife to a human slave trafficker's neck or my hand at the throat of a drug lord, I would feel no such compulsion."

Liz stood after that and in doing so was right in Victor's face as she finished, "Maybe your years of adventure and crime fighting have been dealing less with the real scum than my handful."

"You did not just say that to me..... You.. you're a ******** child, I have been fighting the darkness since I was eight years old I have seen the worst this universe can offer and there is no way that you will every know the horrid details I keep locked away from the world. There are creatures out there that would make even the most depraved man seem as if he was the next in line for the papal throne!" Victor's breathe was heavy with rage as he stared directly into Liz's eyes, whether or not he could focus on the real task at hand was lost to him all he could think about was this girl, this...young woman who challenged him in every since of the word.

"I may have gotten soft, I may have just been coasting by on a mediocre performance, but at least I'm not clinging to the coat tails of a more talented team."

"We'll see who's clinging to whom once we're done with this, that's for certain." Liz's face was so close to Victor's they could feel each other's breath.

"So, unless there is something else, I guess I have some more 'proving myself' to do to some other form of solid rock." She actually made the finger quotes as she huffed the words that prefaced her allusion out at him.

(don't know how much more you want to play into this btw)

Reaper grabbed her wrists and pulled her all the way in. He seethed with anger. I hate her, why did I come to help her I hate I hate.... Victor barely had to lean in to meet her lips. All of the emotions he felt in that moment where funneled through in the only way he knew how to express himself further to her. My words mean nothing understand me... please

But if they were trained if they had a code of conduct."
Chamberlain was furious. "You don't pay the devil to watch the children! What is wrong with you Soul? Open your eyes! Whatever he has planned is not good for the city. Sure you may think you're guiding his actions, but in reality he's a manipulator. It's his stock and trade to fool people into doing one thing while he does another. All that will happen if you help him is he will end up with a highly trained private army and you will be face down dead in the gutter after he's trough with your help."

"You think I don't know I'm playing with fire? ******** every day of the last two years of my life has been devoted to trying to bring this b*****d down. This is undercover work pure and simple man! I'm not going to stand by and watch him take over, this is going to happen with or with out me, and so long as there is a breath left in my body I will be there slowing him down from getting what he wants. I make my own decisions, or have you forgotten that I'm a grown a** man?" Soul was about to lose what little control he had over himself and the situation as he continued on, " The Manager is going to do this we can't publicly attack a city official! If you thought it was hard to bring a man down who never got the blood on his hands in before then you clearly don't know how it works in this fine country of ours. J.J. is holding all of the cards, we dropped the ball I'm just trying to give us an edge and not a front row seat to World War III.... Him with an army of supers will be just that, it's no longer about how we feel about him or the current situation. It's about our responsibility to the whole of humanity to be there on the front line steering this ship off-course before we ******** up again and let him win."

Chamberlain couldn't believe his ears. "Are you pulling my leg? The Manager is poised to take over the city and you want to help him?" He was already keyed up from Tara's condition and he was ready to explode.

"I know exactly how it sounds, and I'm Telling you if we don't work with him then he will do the wrong thing, but if we can be on the inside and shape this plague into a proper order." Soul started using his hands to express himself, he was never much of a talker but he knew that he would need to do his best this time, " You can't tell me that we need to regulate what is going on with these new 'heroes'. You can't tell me that you're behind Victor allowing these kids to go around in a super team with out training and supervision!? I've always been against kids in the biz and this is only going to get worse. Now When he took in the dead boy that was alright he is always with him but when the dead boy makes a team of his buddies, who tells there parents when a maniac guts them? Who pays for the damage they do? Sovereign has his own insurance backed by the government, Reaper Never blows anything up that wasn't already going down, but 6 months ago they tore through a warehouse stole vehicles destroyed a monumental hotel. Shaking his head Chamberlain stared into Soul's eyes. "I think you're going about this all wrong James, but I can see I won't be able to stop you. All I can ask is that you stay alert. Snyder is brutally deceptive and you'll end up doing exactly what he wants if you're not careful." He sighed and ran his hand through his thick hair. "But I can't sit by doing nothing and I won't even consider helping that monster. I'm going to round up every meta who will listen to me and take them underground. If we can sit back and wait until we know what his plan is we'll have a strike force that we can hit him with if need be."

I may fail, though it is neither my plan nor my intention I would like nothing more than to know that you will be there ready for him." Soul relaxed and rubbed his scruffy chin with a look of regret in his eyes it seemed as if he realized a truth that he had not anticipated. " Victor will no doubt join you... He will never ever admit to it, but he needs a guiding hand. Not saying tell him what to do but David when he glances to you, can I count on you to help my advocate."

Chamberlain nodded. "I'll do what I can. I can't say I know when I'll see you again, I won't be here as soon as Tara wakes up. So stay safe brother." He clasped hands and then stepped back into the room with Tara closing the door behind him.
