"Then wear it more than once," Miyuki pointed out, "And then when you are too big for it, give it to someone else. It always gets used that way."
Though to be fair, Miyuki always wore dresses, so it wasn't ever hard to convince her otherwise, and while she had nice clothes she didn't have a huge wardrobe, and they were always slightly bigger than her because no one knew when she was going to grow again.
The last time Miyuki grew at Amon Darthir her mother had gone and given her old clothes away to any of Miyuki's smaller friends who wanted it, only keeping a few to give to the family back home. It was what one did with fast growing children, though it might not seem like it since everyone in the large Winters family had their own taste and style (and Helen to boot), it wasn't unusual for clothes to become hand me downs, or cut up again to be re-sewn in something else. If all else failed (since there were so many clothes) much if it was donated away.
In fact, unknown to Miyuki but well known to her mother, the elven dresses (a hand me downs from Princess Tinuviel) given to Lin when she grew, two of them were floating around between families. The child one in the possession of Yukiko and the teen one (with the hem let out once more) in the possession of Miyu.

Now there was an idea.
"I could give it to Brook to wear when she grows up," River mused. "She likes dresses and stuff, and she would especially like a pretty one."
River was the odd one out of the three girls: Jasmine and Brook were both very girly, and liked dresses and cooking and such things, while River liked to run around and fight and climb trees, like the boys.
"Besides, you'll have to have a really pretty one for the big banquets and stuff here," Amalirahc added. "They always have at least one whenever we visit a palace. And you have to dress up extra special for that."

Miyuki couldn't disagree with that because it was true, she had been to a few of them of course.
"So, it'll get some use before it goes to anyone else," Miyuki nodded.

River nodded her agreement. "Yes. In that case, then I don't feel bad if I get another dress. And maybe I'll be able to wear it for a banquet or something at the Eastland palace too. That's something I would dress up for, even if I didn't dress up for the rest of our stay there."
At that point, they reached the door that Lady Kirahn was leading them to, and she opened it for them and ushered the four of them inside. "Here," she told them quietly. "Remember, you must remain quiet when you are inside. This is the House of Healing, and there are injured people resting."

Miyuki nodded as she picked Senka off her shoulder to hold her again. Her mommy had always told her that if there was any place she had to be careful in, she had to hold Sen-sen because there was no telling what the cat might do.

Alassëa made soft noises to her bird to make sure it kept quiet while they were in the room. It didn't make much noise in general, but with birds one never could tell.
The House of Healing was a dimly lit room with veiled windows on two of the walls. There were two rows of beds in it, though only three were occupied: one with a man who was fast asleep, a second with a man whose chest and face were bandaged up, and the third held the guard that had been blinded with the children earlier. There was a man in white kneeling in front of him, looking into his eyes, but when the group entered he turned around to look at them, and then rose to his feet.
"Lady Kirahn," he murmured respectfully, bowing as the lady approached the two with the children and Alassëa in tow.
"Master Ethan." Lady Kirahn nodded her head in acknowledgment, then nodded at Alassëa behind her. "We have a healer here, one who can heals by her own magic. She healed our eyes, and we have brought her here to help Sir Jayme."

Miyuki watched the adults talk a bit before giving her full attention to the healer. She certainly hoped that Sir Jayme was okay, it was hard to tell how much he could see now.

Relief filled the healer's eyes, and he smiled, breathing a relieved sigh. "Wonderful," he murmured. "Most other things I can help, but this ... this needs special care."
He smiled at Alassëa, but his smile quickly faded. "Ah ... I apologize, mistress, but I can't allow the bird in here ..."
Alassëa reached up with one hand and stroked her bird possessively. "I need her," she said quietly. "She is my eyes."
Sure there had been the one day when Aethos had taken the bird with him for the day, but she had felt quite vulnerable, a feeling she did not want to repeat if she could help it.
Ethan blinked. She was blind? A blind woman was going to heal someone else's blindness?
"This way," he said, touching his hand to her arm to lead her forward.

Miyuki looked down at Senka and wondered if she should have left her friend outside. That would have made her sad and probably made Sen-sen mad but it sounded like animals weren't allowed in the Healing House.

Ethan caught Miyuki's look and he smiled at her.
"Don't worry," he murmured. "As long as she doesn't bite anyone, she's fine in here. Birds are the real carriers."
"My bird is as clean as anyone in here," Alassëa said in an offended tone. "She eats only what I give her to eat. Nothing raw, nothing dirty."
"You understand, I have to be careful," Ethan defended himself.

Miyuki kind of understood that, animals weren't often allowed into the healing place back home, even the smart ones like Wish, but there was a separate healing place for all the pets of the family.
"Sen-sen won't bite," she murmured.
At least she would keep Senka from biting because she didn't want to be without her friend.

Alassëa sat down next to the injured guard and held her hand out to him, asking him to put her hand on his eyes so that she could start the healing process.
River looked up at Lady Kirahn. "Don't you have any magical healers here?" she asked, half curious and half confused. "I mean, there's go to be someone somewhere, right? So why a healer that doesn't heal with magic?"

Miyuki wondered that herself, while she knew there were really good non-magical healers (they were called doctors in Gaia), it was always good to have one who could heal magically just in case.
Of course she knew more healers than doctors.

Lady Kirahn looked down at River. "Magical healers are incredibly rare," she told her softly. "We're fortunate that there's one here now to help us with this. I don't know of any others anywhere in the Westland."
River frowned. "How rare?"
The lady blinked at her. "As I said, I know of no others in the Westland. And I know nothing of the other lands."
River held up her hand and started counting on her fingers. "Well ... there's Alassëa, and there's Amalirahc's grandmother, and there's my great-grandmother, and Amalirahc's cousin's husband, Elwin, and there's Aragost - he's our great-great-great-great-great-great-great-and-a-whole-bunch-more-greats-grandfather - and ... um ..."
She tried to think hard. Was she missing anyone?

Now that River was naming them off, Miyuki also realized the ones she knew were all the family as well, and after traveling well... she understood it was a huge, huge world.
"There's my Uncle Yukito and cousin Miyu and I think Grandmother might know a thing or two, but like River it's all the family... that's so... there aren't a lot of healers, not for all the people that exist," Miyuki came to that conclusion.
