Quick question I want to throw out, sorry if I am interrupting any long standing argument or something. I was just curious of the Tau/Crisis Suit operation. I was wondering if the operation of the Crisis Suits were that of a mech, such as a Gundam where their are controls for a machine, or whether it worked more like power armour, where it acted as an extension of the body, controlled by the movements of the operator. I've never been able to make a size comparison model wise, or at least I don't remember if I have, and I was just wondering for future RPing plans or modeling ideas.

I'd say it's power armor and an extension of one's body since they fit inside of it. Kindasortmaybe like Space Marines but on a larger scales.
But then again, Tau are Space Japs....

It's too big for a Tau to control like power armor, but it doesn't have conventional controls either. It uses a neural interface, directly interacting with the pilot's brain. This system has the occasional side effect of Battlesuit Neurosis, where the pilot believes that he IS the suit, which does help his reactions, but ends badly. He starts to think he's invincible and when the suit gets parts blown off, the pilot believes he's lost his body parts; IE: the suit's 'head' sensors are blown off, and the pilot goes into a coma, thinking his head's been blown off. Serebrate But then again, Tau are Space Japs.... Not really at all. They might have weeaboo fish ships and giant robots, but they don't have much in common with the Japanese ideologically other than that the ideals of the group are more important than the individual. Really, I prefer to think of them as little blue Imperial Brits, shouldering the 'Blue Man's Burden' to bring the light of the Greater Good out into the dark, savage galaxy.

Actually ive heard many people refer to the Tau as Japanese inspired. - the Crisis suits are mech like - if you ever see some pics of tau fire warriors they have small samurai swords (i know the name of them but cant think of it off the top of my head) - the tau symbol is similar to the Japanese flag in a sense there were a few more things but i dont remember them at the moment XD o.O Jon

@
They're more communist since they try to assemble you into their culture (And by assemble I mean sterilize and send you to a work camp).
@ CasaNova
Japanese-themed music plays in the background for the Dark Crusade menu?

They are more list communists because everything is for the greater good, for the better of everyone else and selfless passion. And they don't carry around samurai swords, they are bonding knives. And the symbol is not much like the Japanese flag at all.

Their Greater Good is actually a paradox because it's a greater good for them, but not for any race that joins them. Just ask the Axillary Guardsman.
They do have Samurai swords to an extent, they samurai had a smaller bonding blade too, used in conjunction with the katana. I forget what it was called though. There are other weapons too, I know the Etherials sometimes have a blade staff and I've seen, but can't recall where from, some sort of energy sword.
And it does only kindasortamaybe resemble it. A circle in the middle of a regular flag.
I'd probably say the warrior spirit, space mechs, and the Japanese-themed music give people the impression they're space Japs. I've actually seen people paint the rising sun of Japan on their stuff, pretty scary.

It's a truncation of the word, not meant to be used in a derogative fashion. I even capitalize the "J" to denote that. I didn't say "Space n**" or whatever other antiquated terminology you want to use to describe the Japanese with.

Well, the fact stands that the word had a negative connotation behind it for a very long time and some people, being my grandfather and a lot of others, still use it as a blanket derogatory term against Asians. Just watch your words.

Also look at what the Tau's aim is, "For the Greater Good". It sounds to me to be related to Japans "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" from World War 2.
