River's brow creased in confusion. "I thought you were in the court at Caras Galadhon, too," she mused aloud. "You went in front of the leaders, didn't you?"
Amalirahc was amazed. "Hey Miyuki!" he exclaimed. "You never said there was a palace there!"

"Because there isn't a palace," Miyuki replied.
It was hard to explain since they didn't spend a lot of time there, but she knew enough to know that it wasn't a palace, or if it was, it was the smallest one and no one lived there.
"It's a meeting place of some sort, I don't know what it's called you'd have to ask Luk. The leaders meet there when they have an important meeting or have to talk about something, but they don't live there."

"Oh, I see," River nodded. "Uncle Luk didn't really say much about it, when he was telling us about his land. So I wasn't sure."
They reached the ground floor, and Lady Kirahn led them towards the place where they had first talked to the guard. He wasn't there, but she kept walking without slowing down. The next place to check was the house of healing, which was at the far end of the first floor.

Miyuki nodded, "Luk lives in a small house outside of the city. I'm not sure why outside of the city, maybe he likes the quiet."
She thought about it a bit more, not like the city was noisy as far as she could tell.
"Or maybe he just likes it outside the city..."

"He told me he liked to be by himself," River told Miyuki. "Because he was so sad after his parents died that he didn't want to be with other people."
She paused thoughtfully. "I wonder if he'll move somewhere with people now that he has family and he doesn't have to be sad anymore ..."
Of course he might not, after all it was his home.

Miyuki thought about it, "I don't know...."
She didn't know Luk well enough to know that, and it was a nice home he had. It wasn't like it was too far away from the city and he could always visit if he wanted.
"Maybe..."

"Maybe we can ask him later when we see him again," River suggested. "We'll see him at dinner, right?"
Amalirahc nodded. "So long as he doesn't sleep through it,' he grinned.
"Don't worry about that," Lady Kirahn smiled. "Someone will come to everyone's rooms to get them since of course, few will know the way there on their own anyway. It is after all your first day here."
"And what a busy day it's been," River added. "I think later I'm going to go for a nap, or maybe go to bed early tonight. I don't know about any of you but I'm really tired."

Miyuki blinked innocently at River, while it had been quite busy she wasn't tired yet. While not as bad as Kaito, it did take Miyuki a bit to get to the point where she needed to go to bed early.
"I guess it has been, do you think we'll get to go into the city tomorrow?"

"I hope so!" River exclaimed, her eyes growing bright. "I want to see everything it has! It's so big! It's bigger than any place we've been to yet!"
Of course, she had grown up in the valley, and hadn't been to any city or town prior to their current journey.
"It's the prettiest place I've ever seen," Amalirahc added with a smile. "It's the only city ever that has trees like this and water and birds and butterflies and - and everything!"

When Miyuki thought about it, that was true. It was the largest place she had seen, and even if it wasn't (which for all she knew maybe Cara Galadhon was bigger), it was certainly the most grand.
"I'm sure we will..." she paused and then remembered, "After Wren shows us that place she wants to show us."

"I forgot about that," River admitted with a giggle. "But she didn't say it was going to take all day, did she? Just that it would take half a day if we rode. So maybe we can do both!"
"It will take you much more than just a morning or an afternoon to see the city," Lady Kirahn spoke up, taking them past the conference hall. "There's a lot to see."

"But even if we get to see a part of the city tomorrow that would be great," Miyuki replied.
After all, they rarely got to see everything all at once. Most of the time it was in bits and pieces because things just kept happening.

"Grandmother says that I need a new dress," River said, though she didn't sound impressed. "I only have the one that I'm wearing now, and it's not a real pretty one, not like the ones that you have, Miyuki."
"I want to go to the bakery," Amalirahc grinned. "They have really good cinnamon bread!"

It was very tempting for Miyuki to ask Amalirahc when he wasn't thinking of food. He always seemed to be hungry and while Miyuki loved sweets it didn't mean she necessarily wanted to visit a sweet shop.
Though it never hurt to check in on one at least once.
"You don't sound too happy about getting a new dress," Miyuki turned her attention back to River.

"Well, it might be nice to have a new dress," River admitted, "but I guess I just don't see the point of it. This is the only place I'll wear it, because Shiro says that in the Eastland they don't care if you wear a dress or not, and if I ever come back here again I'll be too big for the dress ... so it just seems like a waste of money to me."
While her family was rather well-off, in terms of gold, they still saw no point in spending money where they didn't really need to. It was best saved for things that were necessary - food supplies they couldn't collect or grow themselves, material for clothes, and so on.
