Porter flopped onto the couch right as Damian started up. " Listen I get it you have done an absurdly phenomenal job at hiding who you are from the world. I get it, so I'll keep my lips sealed for a bit about the tales I know of. But and so help me if you don't have a damn good explanation for abandoning the team you assembled to take down the fags in tights and figure out the mountain fiasco when we all came back. I mean s**t you just let us get pinched out there." He opened his jacket before he took a seat in a chair on the opposite side of the room.

"You heard my offer......well mostly." Porter blurted as he watched Kitty on the news.
J.J. sighed and rubbed his temples. "For one, if you expected me to do anything about that giant flying mountain then you are a bigger fool than you've shown today. Second, You have obviously failed at the mission you were paid for, in advance, and have the gall to complain about your disavowment. What do you want? An apology? My head?" he sat up as he saw Daisy approaching on camera and had Ed fetch the tray of bagels and coffee. After she was safely away he continued. "You can't have that. What I CAN offer you is a part in the rebuilding of this city. We're on the knife's edge my friend, and soon, with this city as the launching pad, we will enter a new age. No more controlling the alley ways and thugs there in. We will control the hearts and minds of this country. Tell me, what is more important? Your little grudge? Or the future?"

"Future" They said simultaneously. Then glared at each other.

"I'm in when we have the people I can close some of my older grudges. And finally put myself back on the fast track to success." Damian smiled.

"I just need the good PR man, I'll support you all the way to the white house I need a ******** presidential pardon." Porter sat up on the couch and looked to each of the three men in the room, " I just have one question boss, what's the plan?"
"The plan is, that you keep in touch with me and we work out a few angles. Ones that require a man of your talents." J.J. said to Porter. He turned to Damion and clapped the young man on the back. "Fast tracks are what I'm about Damion my boy. And I happen to need a vice mayor seeing as the previous administration left without cleaning up."

"I'll take the job with pleasure Snyder, I just want a different office. that one is going to need some serious cleaning." Damian laughed.

"Well then I'll be around when you need me talents boss. that is if I can leave now...?" Porter raised an eyebrow and his pitch for the permission.
J.J. gave Porter a dismissive wave and sent Damion off to fill out paperwork. After they were gone he sat down and spoke to the impassive Ed. "It's satisfying when everything comes to you isn't it?"

Chamberlain strode back and forth on the roof of his shop occasionally glancing out over the lights of capital city. The announcement from city hall replayed in his head over and over. This is wrong, very wrong.
He attempted to contact Victor several times to no avail, so he hoped his message for a meeting had reached Soul. He needed a plan, to stop the ball from rolling before the entire city was crushed under its weight.

From the roof of his shop Chamberlain could no doubt have heard a crash as someone or something broke his front door down. There was some scuffing of the floor less audible from outside and then a soft thud, then no more.
Alarmed, Chamberlain reached into his pocket world and pulled out the hefty Gram. With as much stealth as he could muster he made his way downstairs in the dark and quietly made his way toward the noise. Perhaps a burglar? No, too noisy...
What Chamberlain found was no doubt worrisome. Tara Illias lay strewn out on the floor of his restaurant, his down forced open into some odd shape that the wood should not naturally have been able to take on without snapping. Her entire right are was covered in a dark, sickly purple bruise color and seemed to be seeping blood from a several dozen small lacerations along its length.

She seemed semi-conscious, but just barely, and her breaths came in labored huffs like a dog laying on its back after a long run. When Chamberlain came within her blurred field of vision she muttered just above a ragged whisper, "Sorry....had to find a place....safe place...place to rest."

With that she lost what control she had of her conscious mind and drifted off into a semi sleep.

"Speaking of roots..." Ricky replied and started scaling the cliff face using various roots and crevices as hand holds. "It'll still be faster than going around. Reaper and I have training in this sort of thing, the speedster right want to take that river bed over yonder, it'll lead around to where we want to go." Ricky was quite nimble and he was soon a good ways up.

"No," Liz said as she stared, glared even at the point where Zack had sealed the tunnel behind him. "No, we're not going to lose them, we aren't going around."

"Liz?" Rei said quizzically, with a hint of nervousness.

"Go Rei, we need someone on the other side when they come out so we don't lose them. They are right about that."

"And the rest of you?"

"Like I said," Liz stated as her entire body visibly stiffened for a moment and the hairs on the two mens' bodies stood on end for a brief second before Liz's yellow orange aura exploded around her body like a jagged flame. "We are going the same way; stay behind me."

With that she began to walk into the mountain face. As soon as her aura touched the rock it disintegrated and the size of her energy field visible shrank for a moment before a look of sheer will crossed her face and it grew back to its original strength, though her movement seemed slower than a standard walking pace.

" Keep doing what you're doing Rick, I'll follow the glow worm into the mountain, make sure she doesn't pass out or blow a fuse in her head." Reaper called out as he walked in to the new opening. He strolled up behind Liz I'd talk to pass the time but I don't want to break her concentration. I didn't think she had this in her... Is be impressed if she wasn't showing off.

Roughly half way through the mountain, though this was not something observable to either Liz or Victor, Liz's aura flickered harshly for a few moments, casting them into darkness for a few seconds at a time before it shrank all-together down to a thin film around her and she stumbled a bit before falling on her a**, breathing hard as she redirecting the film around her body providing a faint glow to a fair sized ball of aura around her right hand which lit the immediate area well enough.

"I just....need a few...moments," She said between breaths as she groaned and leaned back against the side of the tunnel, worn completely smooth by her aura a few seconds earlier. She closed her eyes and seems to be getting her breathing under control, but her face was rather red and she was sweating profusely.

Reaper reached into one of the larger pouches on his belt and removed a glow stick, " You know the Navy Seals use glow sticks?" He snapped it releasing the fluorescent dye. he shook the children's toy to get it going, "The call them tactical glow batons. some are no bigger than the one in my hand now that i got from a convenient store a block from the courthouse. Does the same thing just cost more. Do you get what I'm saying Liz?" Reaper pulled down his mask and flashed her his glowing pearly whites.
As she released the last of her aura and let the pale glow of the chemical light paint the area a florescent green she said, "Is this you gloating? Because I honestly don't want to hear it right now."

She let out a long sigh and said, "Even with me needing to stop we'll cut time from going around or over."

The handle to the closed double doors to the room jiggled for a second, then another second. There was a slightly longer pause before a extremely odd sensation filled the room, like there was a pressure of some kind pushing away from the crease of the doors and then suddenly light seemed to bend around the doors for a moment. In the next moment there were two older men standing in front of the door where they had not previously been. Both seemed roughly middle aged, with the taller of the two sporting a more of a light silver hair while the slightly shorter man's hair was more of a darker grey. The both were dressed in casual business suits, though the taller man's right arm was in a sling with excessive padding around his shoulder.

"Hello J.J," said the slightly shorter of the two. "I believe we need to have a conversation. Oh, and I wouldn't worry to much about calling for your 'assistant secretary', she's helping and associate of mine find her way to the something I'm sure sounds very important a few floors away while we chat. I'm afraid that we noticed the effects your little safety net seems to have on us when we passed her outside. I prefer not to wade into the shark pool wearing lead shoes."

With much care he tended to her wounds and moved her to his bed staying at her side pensively until her fever broke.

He pressed a small button with his foot, though nothing seemed to happen.

"Yes, and there is something I fine rather disturbing in your latest...venture," the shorter one stated as they move to two chairs in the room and seated themselves. "But first I believe I have you at a disadvantage in terms of identity among other things, you may call me Omen, and my associate here is Vector."

He laced his fingers together and then stated, "As to my quarrel with you, I must say I have an...extreme distaste for your idea that we 'powereds' need to do anything that resembles registry with the state, apart from anything else it is a breach of our rights that you are planning to be blindly supported by a populace who's fear of the strange and different you are dragging from their more prevalent obsession with the mutant threat over the entire powered community like a doom-saying umbrella."

The man was incredibly well spoken and his words formed like steel blades by a master craftsman, each purposefully and precisely set and their edge deadly. His next words were no exception, if potentially more razor edged. "I am more than a fair judge of people you see; I have been around and I have seen what humans are, what they are capable of whether bad or good, how they strive to help others or how they attempt to conceal from their fellows what lengths they will go to be in control.
"You, however well your public image sells it, are not such a shepard fearful for his flock, but the wolf. You do not do this for the people but for yourself; not for their or the country or the world's protection but for control and power and most importantly for your gain."

He paused for a moment before he finished, "Plainly, I do not approve or your motivations, which in and of itself would not warrant my attention in the least. More importantly I do not approve of your plan, which would be the case even were you to have the most pure motive. This is sadly, the far more relevant of my misgivings."

He then sat there in silence waiting for a response, almost as if he were baiting violence so that he might have an excuse to act.

He put out his cigar and peered closely at the two men. "I know what you're afraid of. Witch hunts. Lynchings. I'm from the South, I know. But the way I see it, I'm not singling out anyone. I'm offering gainful employment to souls with no purpose in life. Who treat the world as something they are detached from. I want to make them into something. An army who answers to no one. Not even me, in time." He paused and let the last part sink in. "As for my motives, yes they are selfish. But how am I different from any other leader elected or otherwise. I cannot prosper without the people prospering. I ask metas to register. Will those who refuse be locked up? No. They will simply not be allowed the same privileges of those who are. I do not intend to be a tyrant. A tyrant always suffers a cruel fate. A benevolent leader has no fear of revolt or revolution. A truly loved man has no enemies." He stared at the two men hard. "As you said I am at a disadvantage. I am at your mercy. Now tell me, what do you choose to do?"

"He is trying to buy time," said Vector as he glanced at the clock on the wall. "Warpath's diversion of the girl cannot last more than a dozen or so minutes, he knows this."

"Sush," said Omen as he extended his index fingers and touched them to his own lips, where he left them as he thought.

"You are not a tyrant no, puppet-masters rarely are or desire to be; they are too smart to let their true face be known to the public that might later be tarnished and to content to control their world via the shadows to be lured into the light by vanity or pride. But all armies must answer to someone or they will dissolve into chaos. It may not be your public persona or even you directly that controls this army, but it will do as you see fit no matter the game of telephone needed for your orders to reach their ears; of this I have no doubt."

With a sudden movement Omen stood and moved to the door, followed closely by Vector. He stopped at the threshold and turned.

"I am afraid the witch hunt ensues with or without you sir. The more direct issue is that by suggesting or attempting to address us legally as things that must be watched or regulated you are legitimizing the bigotry of those mobs, fueling the fire in the depths of their black hearts. Now they can point and say 'look, they agree'. Whether you act on the same principle or not they will see it as the vindication of their viewpoint. In the end the proposal will change and twist before it is made law, whether that be your intention or not and in the end it will be much worse for us that you state now."

He looked at Ed and back to JJ before he said, "We will do nothing for the moment Mayor-elect. You currently have the support of the people and your proposal has yet to grow legs as it were. I am not in the habit of creating martyrs for those who seek to harm my people and that is all I would accomplish were I to shuffle you off this mortal coil.

"We will wait, and we will see, But know this, should you feel eyes upon you or breath on your neck know that it is me, watching you. Know that the moment the public shifts away from you and you still push this act to law that the ground under you is not but dust. Know that if it truly comes to your life to stop this law, the sight of me will mean you have already died and your brain has simply not realized it yet."

As they exited through the door he finished, "Do not send anyone after us you wish to return soon, if at all. And a word to the wise, your assistant is sure to find out sooner or later why you keep her around."

Wasting no time, Chamberlain sheathed Gram and rushed to Tara's side. Giving her a once over he slowly shook his head. "What happened my poor girl..."
With much care he tended to her wounds and moved her to his bed staying at her side pensively until her fever broke.

Tara moaned in her sleep a fair amount, Kyle's name came up a few times, along with the words 'Providence', 'Omen' and 'Vector'. The sentences where gibberish at best and potentially served to do nothing but confuse and worry an onlooker.

Mopping his brow J.J. sank into his chair. "I tell you, I think I know what that girl meant about the one who will not be swayed. I think we need to be a bit more careful from now on." A light mist seeped into the room in one corner and J.J. smiled at it. "Looks like I didn't need you after all. But if you could keep an eye on them I'd be grateful. I'm sure they'll have their peepers peeled so err on the side of caution."
The mist began to dissipate and soon the room was clear.

"No need to get so touchy! I'm only offering you some help," Victor leaned against the smoothed out rock wall. "I'm trying to tell you that you keep pushing it like this and you're going to run out of limits. Just because it's faster to go straight through a mountain doesn't mean you have to prove to us that you can do the impossible task. You're a kid pretending to be a full grown adult cape jockey, and that's just dangerous."

"I've got a dozen years of experience on you kid, and I'm telling you that this is how you guarantee an early dirt nap! I'm not saying that you'll regret any of this, I'm just saying we had options! It's not like your friend wants to be rescued anyways. He practically gave the opposition the advantage by cutting literally hours out of the trip."Reaper scoffed at Liz's remarks. " "I may treat this as one big game but that's to give everyone a fighting chance. I'm telling you now, so you never ask again, I want to give them all second chances, I don't want to be the judgement for any living being. I don't want to be my father." Victor crossed his arms and looked away from Liz. If it's not a game why does everyone I meet play? I can't help but feel as if this is all one big practice match for the real deal.

Soul tried his cell several times, and with every call it appeared that Chamberlain was either screening him, or wanted to meet in person.
I can't think of a more appropriate topic to discus in person really, I'm sure Mr. Money wants to know if he started financing the wrong side. I'll have to tell him the truth about what Snyder wants. Why I intend to help him... why this could be the best thing to happen to this dank city. He could see the shop a mere block away.
