XD A smart-geek dude used it in this TV show. =3 I'm on season 3 of Bones. I'm vaguely watching while I draw. >_> It keeps my mind off the gore.
Anyways. Hectoring. It's a term that comes from the old story of Troy. Something about the Hector dude. Ya know, I read the Illiad and the Odessy, but I still don't remember why 'hectoring' is a term for being antagonistic or teasing... >_<;

Ah, still on Bones are we.
And I understand why. If memory serves, Hector was the guy who convinced Helen to leave her husband and come back to him to Troy. And thus he's the reason why there was a ten year war that lead to the downfall of Troy.

Indeed. Bones. Almost done. >_<
Well, yeah, that's the dude. But why would being taunted be called being hectored?

Not sure. Maybe the whole taking Helen away was seen as a taunt by the Greeks. "Haha, I took the most beautiful woman in the world from you because Trojans are better then Greeks!" or something like that.
Who really knows. The terms has probably been around for thousands of years and who knows how many times it's changed.

Depends on the person, place and situation.
You can get away with phrase and terms few people know anymore if somethings right. Espeically on TV. If a writer is skillful enough, he'll put something in that sounds funny or unusual, and people will do their best to find out what it is.

The true weird part would be sitting with people who get some off the wall refrence to some book or play you've never heard of and they laugh as you go "and why is that funny?" and they can't tell you because they can't stop laughing.
