undefined dad No thank you. I will just have the normal scotch please and thank you. Back in the early 70's they started DST to save on energy and to help the economy. You do not lose the hour, but once every 4 years they add another day in the month of Feb. to even it all out and to reset the atomic clock. This is really Ex's dept. not mine. Have a good night all. (slips off with scotch to the recliner in the corner by the fireplace.) You have it mixed up with leap years.

For those living in more, shall we say, advanced nations, daylight savings time is the action of adjusting clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less for some reason. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn. The idea dates back to the late 1800's; the suggestion that Franklin came up with the idea is assumed to be an attempt at defiling him I would guess.
The practice does not seem to have any positive effects. It is suggested that adding daylight to afternoons may benefit activities that exploit sunlight after working hours, but often does not due to those same locations using electric lighting, but causes problems for farming, evening entertainment and other occupations tied to the sun. Traffic fatalities are reduced when there is extra afternoon daylight, but increased dramatically in the now darkened mornings. This is possibly an effect to kill you at a time that is most profitable for employers. Its effect on health is in disturbing the natural rhythms, it causes increased sickness and other subtle problems. Its effect on crime is that it increases the hours of effective cover of darkness. Although an early goal of DST was to reduce evening usage of electricity, modern lifestyles and energy use have made the practice contradictory.
They practice complicates timekeeping, and can disrupt meetings, travel, billing, recordkeeping, medical devices, heavy equipment, and sleep patterns; which causes massive health and financial damages.
In conclusion, children's sports and farmers' markets are the only ones that benefit from DST. Children do not need the sporting events and the markets can buy some friggin' post lamps.
I will have a pina colada.
