(( Location: The library, MMHQ OOC: Doing my own thing, cause Urkal sure looks dead. Requiem, are you aware that Urkal was described as an iron-age region? Magic has been used for a visual comm panel at the front gate, and for guns with infinite elemental-type bullets. That's what's been throwing me off about your posts. I didn't realize you were near Urkal until a moment ago. ))
After ten minutes of wandering through the library, Joel realized that the exit could be pretty far away. The library had large aisles which connected only to small aisles, small aisles which connected to tiny aisles, and at least one aisle that connected to nothing at all. The only way to even see that aisle was to take a book out and look through the hole. Joel glanced at the titles of the book in his hand. Bovine Love. The other books on the shelves had titles such as Wild Stallion, Maverick in the Meadow and Between Two Steers. They all appeared to be romances. Curious and slightly disturbed, Joel flipped open the book and read a page at random.
Moo! Moo moo moo moo moo moo moo moo moo moo - moo moo moosome moo moo moo moo, moo moo moo moo moo moos moo moo mooed moo moo moo mooing!
"Mooranda, moong moo moo moots. Moo moo moo moo mow moo mooms moo moo moo. Moor's moomoo moo moo moo moomoomooss moo moo moomoo moot's moo moo moo moo moody moo moo." Moo moomoo moo moo Mooranda Moomoo moo moo moon mooed moo moo moo moomooing moos moomooly moomooxed moo moo moo moo moo moo moo moomoo moo moos.
Moo moo moo mooken moo moo moo moos. Moo moo moomoomoomootion moo moo moogh moos moo moo mooed moo moo mootion moong moo moo moos moo moo moo moo moo.
"Moo! Moo! MooOOoo..." moo mooed, moo moo mooed moo...
It was a compelling read, despite its less-than-memorable characters and contrived plot. Joel put the book down quickly. He had never been much of a reader, and this was not a good time to start.

Cyrith snapped off a smart salute, then hoisted the man on his shoulder. This drew a few stares since women normally weren't able to pick up men like that, and that was what he looked like.
Stopping off at the jailhouse, he dropped off the thief, got the total tally, and quickly changed his clothing. Black pants, dark green tank, and sunglasses. He also redid his hair into its braid. Then he ran out, grabbing his HAS (huge-a** sword).
That was when he arrived at the gate. He stood off to the side, waiting for everyone else to arrive. He leaned up against the wall, when he realized that he still had the idol. He walked up to one of the local guards, handed the idol to her, and said one word. "Merc." Then walked off. It left the guard confused, but she took it in stride and went to return the idol.

((Frogtaur: I was never told Urkhal was iron age. If I had known that, I would've changed my RP up dramatically. Xinrie told me that the thread as a whole was modern age, so that confuses me. I've already started down that path, so I can't really change what I've already posted. I hate contradicting myself.
Also, I don't understand the thing about the magic, but I don't use magic in this RP.))

ooc::: Mishaps is located in the modern age. But! We have a portal room that technically in this fantasy rp allows us to travel to other realms. Urkal is another world that we currently have a job in. So the rp could be held in any age if you think baout it :] Thats what makes this thread so relaxed and full of variety

"Well, it certainly brought back memories of being in the Soviet Army. We were practically given a five-minute talk, handed a parachute and then told to go out and practice it. But those days are long gone, it's a good job I remembered my training."
He looked in the direction that Anima had been looking. Seeing some walls in the distance, through a gap in the trees that they were in. Unable to see much due to the distance and air distortion from the heat, he fumbled in a pocket and procured some small binoculars. Putting them to his eyes, he could see the walls clearly unguarded.
"Hmm. Nothing. Looks like those guys really need our presense there. ....Dragons.... I didn't even know they existed. Hell, I didn't even know an organisation like Mishaps could exist, or it's portals and library of horrors, and whatever the frig there is there."
Handing the binocs to Anima, he moved forward through the trees, until he came to the edge of the forest.
It was beautiful.
As he took in the landscape, the rolling meadows around the mountain, the cloud cover only mere metres below them, the ring of mountains around the one they were on, broken only by a valley that seemed to lead to an expanse of blue, ('The sea?', he thought), he felt a great sense of exhilaration. A sense that was greatly ruined by Anima bumbling through the trees behind him and almost knocking him over.

((I am back... I feel horrible for leaving you guys hanging.))
Eventually Ace, made his way through the marbled hallways into the extremely large throne room. Tapestries, at least six on each side, line the tall walls. The tapestries bare symbols similar to the coat of arms sometimes seen back in the hall ways. A red carpet, with gold frills, stretches from the door to a section in the back, which is raised higher than the rest of the floor. Everything seems to merge into that one spot. In the back, a man could be seen sitting on a magnificent chair, a throne. He was wearing a robe and had a small scepter resting next to the throne. Several royal guards where standing post at various points in the room. There where eight in total, two where at the kings side. Besides those, several other people where in the room. Six of the kings advisor's where crowded around the king, all of them where speaking to the king at once.
Ace walks walks in, the guards at the door block his path for a moment and take a good look at Ace before letting him proceed. He walks all the way to the throne. The advisor's are in a panic. Even Ace is able to get a little out of the conversation. "Lord, Sections of the East wall have been leveled. The dragons hit it again!" Two advisor's cried out in almost perfect harmony. "They are toying with us! If they wanted the city gone they could do it easily."
"Ahem." Ace blurts out, trying to get their attention. One by one they stop talking turn around to face Ace. Then they all move aside. The king looked like he was in his fifties. His hair was graying and there where some small wrinkles on his face. He is sitting in his throne slouched over resting his head on his head. After getting the kings attention, he quickly takes a bow. "Your Majesty. I have received word that the kingdom is in an urgent state of despair. I am here to solve your problems."
"Who might you be, and how in the world did you know?" The king looked very impatient, possibly from a large headache received by listening to all of the complaints all day. "I am Ace, leader of squad Slithen from Mishap Mercenaries."
((The rest of the post will come tomorrow, I swear.))

(( Right as some of you may know, Xinrie has set up a Mishap Mercenaries guild, which is here.
I have been in discussion with her, and this has led to me making this post on behalf of her. Basically, we feel that it'd be a good idea if the guild was used to it's full potential. However, the question of what to do with this thread arises.
First off, it'd be cool if everyone gave all their opinions on the guild. Basically, there will be squad specific sections, which is where the squad missions and whatnot will go, and will be played out. The main section will be for all events happening inside Mishaps HQ itself, and so on, as well as announcements and such. Tell us all what you think.
Second, and this is quite important, as it concerns this thread. We can either:
- Allow everyone to finish current squad missions and personal storylines that they are doing now, in this thread, and then, and only then, ask people to continue posting in the guild. Xinrie would ask the SDRP admin to then lock this thread, and we'd provide a link in the Mishaps guild so people can look back.
OR
- Allow everyone to start all over, forgetting all past events and such, and get this thread locked. All new posting would take place in the Mishaps guild. A completely fresh start so to speak.
HOWEVER, if plans with the guild do go ahead, then we really do need to start a recruitment drive. Theres a distinct lack of people RP'ing at the moment, due to people dropping out, and no fresh blood to fill in the gaps left behind. As well as that, several people, (me included, I am well aware of that) have periods of inactivity, which hold up missions and such. Please don't think that I'm slagging you off, I'm one of the worst culprits for this out there. But anything you guys can do, to get more people RP'ing, will be a boon to Mishaps.
Sorry for the essay sweatdrop but we have to let everyone know whats going on. All input at this stage will be considered, positive or negative.
Cheers, PartingGift ))

Cheers, PartingGift )) ((Let me just start by saying, I love Mishaps. Its the best out there and I don't think I would join another rp thread really. I guess its because its unique and so laid back. The possibilities are endless as far as settings and characters. What I am trying to say is that, if we do switch it over to the guild, I don't think people would follow. Mainly, its because I beleive, that the only reason people are here is because of it being in the School Of Dedicated Role Players. Of course t hats only going to get it so far. In conclusion, I beleive that the original members can continue to post here for a bit, at the same time as starting fresh in the new guild. Once we have a bunch of new members for the guild, and things have been tied up in the thread, we can ditch the thread and stay with the guild. If that makes any sense.....))

(( OOC: If we all go to our own guild, how will anyone know that we exist? This thread in the SDRP provides roughly all of our publicity. If it gets locked and shuffled to the bottom of the heap, we will have no new people.
I say we keep using this thread, but use the guild for organization. Provide a link on the first page, and paste all area descriptions and character profiles in the guild. If we get another source of new people, then we can RP inside the guild.
We really do have a lot of people coming in. They just don't stay. I think the lousy player retention rate comes from our squad setup. Squads, as a rule, don't interact with other squads unless they are inside the base. With only three people on a squad, one guy not posting kills the entire squad. We can't rely on numbers to keep the plot going. To fix this, I suggest two things.
First, organize the squads to reflect how often the members intend to post. For example, Squad A might be for people who intend to write one line of conversation a month, Squad B would be for posters like me who write twice a week or so, and Squad C is for full-page-twice-a-day-and-burns-holes-through-his-keyboard guys. (coughBaltazaarcough) This way no one should be itching to post for a month while the other squad members struggle with their lives outside of Gaia.
Second, we permit limited puppeting of critical-yet-absent characters. This one is a little iffy, but if one guy on a three man team goes missing, the other two must be able to continue posting without him, even if the missing person was critical to the plot. Naturally, all puppeted characters would be returned to their owners fairly intact and unchanged.
I don't like starting over. Some people here have been here since the beginning almost, and it would be a shame to just reset our staple characters like that. ))

Frogtaur (( I don't like starting over. I wouldn't like to start again either, so I know how you feel.
About the publicity: I was planning on making a small Mishaps image (see my sig :3 This one links to the thread for now) that would link back to the guild/thread, that everyone could put into their sig if they so wished. As well as that, I'm planning on posting in the main Gaia forums every so often, to promote Mishaps. However, if we do start doing this, we'll need to have made a decision, regarding the guild. There'd be no point in promoting the guild, when we're still posting in this thread because we haven't decided what to do yet, and therefore theres no RPs in the guild as a result of that.
--
Snake, it seems you're in favour of starting afresh in the guild? Hmm. I wonder if that does go ahead, whether we could incorporate Froggies idea about the squad organisation...))

((I kinda like both ideas, where we start afresh, but I also want to keep going. The only reason I would start new is because of all the people that have dropped out. It gives us a reason to start new quads with a legit reason, and even gives us opportunity to create new alliances and factions. I am all for a civil war in Mishaps. Even if it ain't part of the storyline anyways. Whoot for war))
