Lori just laughed.
"You have to let me know what you want. Do you want it out or in? In just means there won't be much decoration, but nobody kicks us out at the end of the day. Out means more money spent. I need your input! Don't throw this on me." He laughed again.

"In?" Maia suggested. Toby didn't seem like much of a decoration guy. "We could make it a simple one. Friends and cake and things. I can make the food," She added. But what did adults do at parties? Children's parties had all sorts of games and prizes--And somehow she figured that didn't carry over to adulthood. "You've known him longer, what do you think he'd like?"

"He seems pretty happy with just friends and food and booze," Lori said with a little shrug, "If the surprise falls out I'd say let him help cook. He does love that. Other than that? Just company. I've known him longer, but I'm not dating him." He smiled.

"Oh, that's even better. Scratch the surprise idea, I'll invite him to help cook. Maybe I can convince him. I told him I wanted to bake him a cake and he didn't seem to mind." Maia beamed at Lori. "I've only dated him a day, I'm hardly an expert."

"You've only been officially dating for a day, and either way you live with him," Lori said, then waved a hand dismissively, "but anyway, sure. We can make this work. Do you want the weekend before or after? What day is his birthday on...?" He sat down at his computer to check the calendar.

"Before would be this weekend, wouldn't it?" She wasn't sure, she wasn't even positive of today's date. That didn't give them much time if it was though, and besides, they'd made plans to go to the lake Saturday evening. "After?" she asked.

"After. After is better. We'll get the invitations out if you think you can handle the homestead. I'm sure Dari can help there."

"Sounds great," Maia smiled at Lori. "I'll tell Dari, I bet he's good at decorating with his fourth dimension thing." She looked around for Seamus and bent down to pet him. "You're invited too," she said, scratching behind his ears.

"Of course," Maia smiled at Lori. She'd made friends with Rosie fast. "She's a wonderful dog. Do you think the guys are still busy? I could take Toby a coffee."

Seamus had begun following a particular orange fish around the room.

"Alright," Maia agreed, giving Lori another smile. She watched Seamus follow the orange fish. Well, he certainly seemed to like his present. "You still have my phone number? We'll probably be busy this weekend but I can text you."

"Yeah, of course I do. Do you have mine?" Lori picked up the phone and began to dial for the phone in Toby's office. Everyone had their own extensions, but Toby was on the "hot list" pushed into nearly every phone in the HQ. He got an answer almost immediately.
"Y'ello?" Toby.
"Your new girlfriend is going to come for a visit, I think."
A long pause. "...hah."
Lori hung up and laughed. "Hasn't totally hit him yet, has it?"

"Yup! I'll text you later, okay?"
"He only asked me out yesterday," Maia defended, but she grinned at Lori. "I thought I'd wake up and find everything that happened yesterday had been a dream." She gave Lori a hug and left his office, heading instead for Toby's.
"I was going to bring coffee, but I remembered how much you hate it."

Lori nodded. "Sounds good." He stood for the hug and returned it, then waved as the selkie left. Maia would undoubtedly hear him start talking to Seamus as she made her way down the hall.
"Coffee is a last ditch effort," Toby agreed, first with an entirely serious face toward his computer, and then he smiled and held his arms out at Maia. "It's the thought that counts."
Even Dari was grinning.
