The Jewish race/ethnicity is actually Semite. This is where the common genetics come from; Jews were historically Semites who moved into the Middle East.

And there's non-Jewish Semites as well, which is why OTHER Middle Eastern people share some common features.

Oh, and KB!

You seem to like table top war games.

What should a table top noobs start in? Me and a few friends want to start, but we don't know with which game.

Much school work this wretched day. But I shall do it ahead of time like a go-getter.

A Getter Robo even.

Okay,

It depends a lot on personal tastes. If you have a local hobby shop or anything like that, they should be able to show you different games. Be warned, they'll try to recruit you.

For hobbyists, you're typically going to take up something that involves either a lot of painting or model customization. For that the best table top wargames available are probably 40k and Fantasy. Both Warhammer franchises, respectively. ( That's not to say others won't be as good, like Warmachine or Hordes (( which formally used metal models, so a lot of their product line is still all-metal )) The amount of customization you want is limited only by imagination and funds.

If you're just into gameplay and not big on painting models or putting them together, then it breaks down even further.

Warmachines and Hordes are both skirmish style wargames. So, you control less units than a large-scale wargame but you control them more directly. Unit placement and measurement and all sorts of things are important because you're closer to the game. It's a thing you get a feel for.

Warhammer by contrast is a larger army-based game. You control more forces, and you do a lot more. It's less streamlined, so what you can do with it is a lot bigger. To that end, it's more expensive and takes a lot more time to master.

There's a whole swath of wargames, some like Flames of War are based off reality, while others aren't. Some give you pre-painted models, some don't. It really becomes a matter of personal preference.

There's a lot to consider too, about what you want to invest in. A debuting title will likely only last for about a year, and stores commonly favor certain products over others. Some things may become popular for a time, then die down. For my local store ( warcraftgames ) it generally swings back and forth between Warmachines and 40k.

I recommend starting off with Risk. Its a lot simpler.

Risk is badass, so is chess.

On the other hand, Risk can really get some feuds going on, I tell you whut.

Okay, well i'm going to be playing this stuff with my girl and a few friends, all which like the hobby side the most.

So you would suggest Warhammer? What if we preferred smaller numbers but still be able to paint our own units and what have you?

Risk is a board game, not a table top wargame. The mechanics are a lot different.

Most wargames give you a set number of resources at the start, which you form a list of forces from. You'll also find yourself in different terrain, and with different scenarios or objectives. Some people play for VP ( victory points, which are point values attributed to units or successful completion of missions ) while others simply play for fun, which usually means the force that wipes out the other wins.

I can't recall off the top of my head if there's a tabletop wargame that has fluid forces like Risk does, where your unit count changes from turn to turn. I'm sure there's at least one, but I've never played it.

So much for the heat wave in Ontario; forecast is rain all week.

A lot of it depends on your local resources. I stress this because it's not going to be very fun if you have to order all your paints, glue, materials, and models from companies online and stuff like that.

If you guys want to start out small I suggest looking into Warmachine. For an example of their products... Khador

Granted, I'm biased towards Khador.

In any case, lots of the stuff you see there is going to come as unpainted metal with the plastic bases. You need to touch up a bit of it sometimes from casting bits or whatnot ( bends in the case of spears sometimes ) and then glue together a few pieces. They're all simple and have the necessary instructions. Each of the factions play differently, and they all have their own personal styles in how they look and act.

Then you paint, and what you do with that depends on your level of skill and commitment.

Warmachines can be kinda expensive though, depending on your local markup. It's going to be like 50-60$ for a battlebox ( if they have one ) which will include your basic warcaster and 2-4 warjacks.

On the bright side, PP is switching over to plastic. Soon when you get a Juggernaut in the box, it's going to be made of plastic, but it's going to come with all the necessary pieces to build one of 3-4 different types of warjack, as you choose.

I have a huge option available to me. I've seen all this stuff in my various hobby stores.

Thanks KB.

No problem. They'll all probably run you through a trial game if you ask. It's actually a really easy game to get a hold of. I prefer MkI, but chances are they're gonna feature a lot of MkII.

Now I'm going to take a few pictures of my models and upload them. This is gonna take a few minutes. xp
