Mysterious villain that shows up early in the story to kick the heroes into adventure by attacking their village then in the second half of the story turns out to be the tortured shell of one of the heroes from the last book who you were lead to believe was killed by the big bad demon but turns out to have only been possessed/enslaved. Will he redeem himself and help the heroes after this revelation or has he gone too far? Only time will tell.
