AlaLavei I have to say, I'm with namida on this one. Takarai did kinda come out of no where and I don't feel naimda was doing anything wrong. We were simply having a legitimate conversation. Personally, I think we all tend to get a bit itchy [Yes, I mean itchy] about anti-Kyo people in this thread. I know I do. Anyway, digressing again... namida_no_chi AlaLavei namida_no_chi music is always a more important elemant in a rock band.... Otherwise they're just a crappy band who rely on their vocalists to set their sound apart from everyone else's. Almost everyone's voice is different, so it's not too hard to find a vocalist who doesn't sound like all the other band's vocalists. But it's a LOT more difficult to write music that doesn't sound like every other rock band's music. I disagree. It's my experience that most "up-and-coming" bands' vocalists generally sound the same depending on genre, and generally it's either the guitarist or the drummer that really sets the band apart from other bands. And I don't think it's so much writing music that doesn't sound like everyone else, as it is writing music that doesn't sound like yourself. There's just so many bands it's near impossible not to seem similar to someone, the main trap is not letting your songs sound the same. I believe I was saying that any band that relys on their vocalist to get listeners is a sad, sad band. And as you said, the thing that sets people's sounds apart are a guitarrist etc (although I think it's more the music, like Malice Mizer... no one had really done music like theirs before, so they're like one of THE most popular J-rock bands ever). I believe those two statements are relaying the same concept. Yes I guess you're eventually going to sound like someone, but It's obvious that you're not supposed to say the same things over and over again *coughlinkinparkcough*, because otherwise your music gets tired and people lose interest, so I'll have to agree with you there. But the point is Dir en grey hasn't had the same sound for the last 8 years, and that being said, I don't think Kyo is as vital to the band as everyone seems to think. For individualizing their sound or anything else, because as you just said yourself, a vocalist doesn't make the band. I believe that Kyo is vital to the band, not so much the fact that he's the "poster boy" of the band like we see more often here in American rock, but more because he's a stability in the changing nature of Dir en grey. His voice and lyrics may be similar to others out there, but he's still uniquely Kyo and I think people recognize and hold onto that as style changes. I suppose I find a voice harder to imitate than an instrument, so it seems logical to me that other band members could be replaced with a smaller fuss than if Kyo were to just up and disappear. Having said that, Dir en grey would not be Dir en grey missing any of their members. ... except Die... because he's the "other" guitarist. lol thank goodness SOMEONE agrees with me, but anyways.. Yes, but then again, a band that has to RELY on the fact of nature that everyone's voice is different to make them sound different, they must have sad music. Although (depending on what style you're going for) I think it's entirely possible to replace the vocalist. You can always find someone else out there who's good at screaming or who's a good singer, but you can't -always- replace a songwriter, or a n instrument player, because you may get someone who doesn't quite have the same stuyle or isn't as good, although I guess the same is the case for vocalists. I think Dir en Grey could go for a better vocalist. In this case this would be where what I said applies. If they were to say replace Die, he's a good songwriter and has a certain style about him, so their sound may not be the same (or as good) if they got rid of him. However they COULD replace Kyo with someone who doesn't have quite whiney voice, or doesn't try to sing as much when they really can't.

I like shopping there. ^^; I usually donate a little over $5 a month to Gaia so I can get extra donation letters to sell. ^^;

There's no way you could replace Kyo on vocals and leave him writing lyrics. One of the things that has always carried Kyo through despite the fact that he's not always been so hot with the voice-thing is his ability to convey emotion. I really don't think someone could convey that sort of emotion if they hand't written the lyrics themself, so if you were to replace him with a vocalist who was better you'd still be losing more than you'd be gaining.

I agree with Alalavei on this. I didn't like Kyo's vocals at first, either, but he IS very emotional (which is both a good and bad thing for me). I am not anti-anti-Kyo, I think you should be able to express your opinions freely here, whether its negative or not. I just ask that you make it constructive so it doesn't look like a troll post.
