I always thought Logan was an assumed name since he wasn't able to remember his real name right off.

It's cool. Wolverine is a tough guy to get a handle on since he's so all over the place. I just checked three different website bios and they all say the same thing, that Logan is more of a nickname, and that his real name is James Howlett.
